I went to have an interview for a job today and it turned out to be that one where you purchase £150 of 250 Kleeneze shopping brochures, distribute them to houses, then go the next 3 days to pick them up and hope that they've been returned, potentially with orders inside. You then return to the houses to deliver the ordered goods and collect payment, and redistribute your remaining catalogues.
Has anyone done this?
I thought it'd be pretty OK as an organised venture, but unfortunately there is one thing that doesn't add up: They don't appear to release a record of who distributes catalogues where, meaning they don't give a shit if 20 people are signed up to distribute in the same little town, so long as people are buying their catalogues and getting them out...
On one hand I'd love to try this out. I have relatives living in 3 towns where I could distribute from (no car) and I'm reasonably sure that catalogue distribution is a new thing here i.e. little competition. These are out-of-the-way areas and all comprise of wealthy and older citizens. I'd potentially be happy with £100/week really....since I currently earn £0 and have no other opportunities other than to be a semi-suicidal caravan cleaner again.
Anyone have experience with this?

If I'm reading this right, you are paying upfront and then hope to sell enough to net a profit?
If so - good odds you are getting scammed.

As Darkwhite said: If you have to pay for it, it is not a job, but a scam.

Exactly.
Also, find someone who has done this at the lowest level and get their impression.
Also look it up on forms which aren't TL to get 1st hand accounts.

Scam for sure
edit: Ok, so after checking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kleeneze , Kleeneze is described as a "multi-level marketing" company, which to me is just a synonym to pyramidal scheme... However it's also been there since 1923 so it might be legit.
Was your interview in a Kleeneze office? My guess is that your interview was for a "company" that is affiliated to Kleeneze, but can operate independently with their own rules. They get for a example an X% commission from Kleeneze for all the products they sell. They hire you, you pay the catalogs upfront, so they don't have any cost/take any risk. Then for everything you sell they give you a Y% commission (Y<X of course) and they make money by doing nothing more than job interviews with people like you. If you're really into this kind of job, then try to see if you can be a level 1 affiliate so you'd be getting the X% commission. Maybe you won't even have to pay the catalogs upfront.
And do some research, this company's been there for almost a century, and they have a wikipedia page, I really doubt you can't find anyone sharing their experience with them.
edit2: Kleeneze founder's last name is Crook. LOOKS LEGIT.

that you ended up in an 'interview' with an MLM scheme and didn't immediately walk out and cut all ties is a bit strange to me

Called him back to respectfully decline, and he got pissy and started saying stuff like "You know what? If you want secure then I'll give you a blanket and you can sit in the corner."
It's not a good business opportunity if I will be competing with an increasing and unknown number of people in an area. In fact, the more successful HE is, the less successful I will be.

hi FFGeneration, I have been a kleeneze distributor for 12 years now, kleeneze has been operating since 1923 so it is a genuine company and business. we are regulated by the office of fair trading and the direct selling association. I can see people replying and mentioning pyramid scheme which are illegal here in the UK as no products are being sold.
In our industry (ie direct sales or network marketing or multi level marketing) you can earn more than the person who introduce you. Let me outline how we operate. all distributors are self-employed and running their own business.(that is why you can have other distributors in the same area...how many supermarket are in your area...more than one, how many newsagents...café...restaurants...pubs...) we buy the catalogues as they are the tools of our trade (a plumber will buy his own tools too and his van and he probably had to learn for a few years how to be a plumber before he can start to earn) we place catalogues in our local area to generate sales and get a 21% commission on every sales. we also get bonuses every 4 weeks on the total sales generated for those 4 weeks. you build a customer base so that eventually you drop your catalogues only to people you know will buy. I have around 600 customers and generate sales of about £2500 every 4 weeks. we also get provided with our own online shop so we can generate sales online anywhere in the UK. so you can earn a nice little income part time. however if you want to earn more money but not place more catalogues then you can show others how to do the same and you build a team of distributors that you coach and help build their own kleeneze business and they can build a team of their own. so the more people you have in your team the bigger the bonuses. you also get to qualify for international conference(free holiday) the next one we can qualify for is at the half moon resort in Jamaica...and you can qualify for free cars...yours to keep and do whatever you want with...so still thinking it is a scam... if you do then go back to work for a boss and make him rich.
