Why Teamliquid's Blog?
Teamliquid is where I found ESports. From high school student through college and on to a working professional I have always loved this site. I am reaching out to the community that I followed for so long. I even tried streaming at one point. I just wasn't good enough. >.<

With over 4000 games played, you can see I like many of you was addicted to this game. I First became competitive with starcraft 2 and participated in many small tournaments. I later moved to DOTA2 after RSI started to hurt too much while playing SC2.

I wish I could still play as much SC2 or DOTA as I did before or that I could earn a living playing either, but I have a child and somebody Has to earn that diaper money. I am lucky I get to do it with my other passion in life, Japanese.
If you have some extra change I would appreciate any donation to help get my students to Japan. All of the details are below.
Who is this for?
This is to benefit middle school students at Tafolloa Middle School. We are a part of San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). I am representing my students Who are some of the best and brightest in San Antonio. Tafolla middle school Has a magnet program Which kids in the 5th grade apply to. We are a multilingual magnet school that teaches Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Russian, and Chinese.
Only students who are Gifted and Talented, or enrolled in Pre-AP courses are allowed to join. The students study the language and culture of the country they choose for all 3 years in middle school. They are given high school credit upon completion of the program.
Goals
I want to expand my students’ cultural awareness and take them, at least 8, to Japan this coming summer in 2014 with an organization called The Laurasian Institution The program they run is called New Perspectives Japan. The program is a 15 day study tour of Japan and cost $3,995 for each student. The money covers a majority of things required for this trip minus a few things. (Details).
Scholarships are available to cover up to half the cost of the trip, however not everyone is guaranteed that much. To apply for the scholarship students must receive teacher recommendations and write an essay on why they want to go to Japan. All of my students will be applying for the scholarships but they will still need help paying for the trip.
Many of my students are from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Their parents work long hours but are still very much involved in their child’s education. I want to reward their hard work. The students who will be receiving assistance to go are only those who have earned it.
I hope that they can use the Life experiences they have on this trip for the Rest of their lives.

About me
My name is Faustino Salinas (Facebook) and I am the Japanese teacher at Tafolla middle school in San Antonio, Texas for SAISD. I was born and raised in San Antonio and was lucky enough to participate in a study abroad program to Japan when I was in college at UTSA.
My experience abroad defined my college experience and eventually my life. I returned to Japan after graduating and married my now wife, a Japanese citizen. In Japan I taught translating to middle and high school kids in a town called Ashiya.
Two years later we decided to return to the states where I was lucky enough to find another dream job teaching Japanese to middle school kids in my hometown.
