Main Protagonist: Kudo Shinichi (Jimmy Kudo) / Edogawa Conan
Case Closed, known as Detective Conan (名探偵コナン Meitantei Konan?) in Japan, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. The series is serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday since January 19, 1994, and has been collected in 81 tankōbon volumes as of June 2013. Due to legal considerations with the name Detective Conan, the English language release was renamed Case Closed. The story follows the adventures of Jimmy Kudo, a prodigious young detective who was inadvertently transformed into a child after being poisoned.
Jimmy Kudo is a high school detective who helps the police solve cases. During an investigation, he is attacked by Gin and Vodka who belong to a syndicate known as the Black Organization. They force him to ingest an experimental poison called APTX 4869 to kill him without leaving evidence. A rare side-effect of the poison, however, transforms him into a child instead of killing him. Adopting the pseudonym Conan Edogawa, Kudo hides his identity to investigate the Black Organization. Dr. Agasa places Jimmy in the care of his childhood friend Rachel Moore, and her father Richard Moore who runs a Detective agency. Throughout the series, Conan interacts and befriends many characters with the most notable being: The Tokyo Metropolitan Police, the local police in Conan's prefecture; The Junior Detective League, a group of children who solves mysteries for their clients; The FBI and Harley Hartwell, a high school detective in Osaka who knows of his true identity.

If there's one manga/anime that I will make sure I remember no matter what even when I'm 90 years old, gray, and dying, that is Detective Conan. I freaking love DC. Anything and everything about it. Aoyama Gosho is an absolute genius. What I wouldn't give to be able to fly to Japan and meet Aoyama Gosho in person just so I could thank him for creating this wonderful series. I still remember setting up my VCR every single night to record Detective Conan (Case Closed) when it briefly played in the US on Adult Swim. I remember how ecstatic I was when my brother found a website for me where I could download all the DC episodes and watch with Korean subtitles. I remember how overjoyed I was when I went to Korea for summer vacation in 2007 and I got to spend hours every single day just watching Detective Conan on television. I remember how kickass it was when I found out that DC actually had movie adaptations of the series.
I'm seriously hoping we have some DC fans here on TL I also hope more DC fans will come to be as a result of this thread. Hopefully we'll get at least 100+ pages on this thread. Detective Conan all the way~!
I just recently read all the chapters again took me like 4-5 days. The only thing negative about the manga is that the main story progesses relatively slowly T_T

This for me too. I've stopped reading most of the side cases now, I only read when the story involves the BO or Ai.

Well it not suppose to have any real plot, it is a detective manga. The entire series basically doesnt really matter, you are just there for the interesting mystery/cases. Dont expect any plot progression for another 1000 chapter. Think of the series as an episode of Scooby Doo.
I haven't read the manga (I'm assuming you'd recommend it) but I absolutely LOVE the anime. I've only seen dubbed episodes but they have been incredible. I think I have the first... 140 on an external hard drive. I'd love to see more (as I know there's a ton more) but I don't know whether its been translated or how I would even manage to get it. What a fucking incredible show though. I am really picky about my anime (I don't like practically any) and I would put Case Closed at the very top of my list.

Read the manga up until like 50 volume and than I was like there are only so many way to kill people with strings and stuff, plus the extremely slow plot move. It get repetitive after a while but I really enjoyed it. Great manga and Sherry is my fav character woot!
I absolutely loved it when it was running on Adult Swim back in the day. I was sad when it got taken out of the regular lineup and still remember some episodes after years. Detective Conan taught me how to stab myself hard in the back with a knife. Where else can you learn information like that?
A few years ago I looked into the series online and then learned how many episodes there really are. And unfortunately, there's still no ending to the story. Each individual episode is good, but I prefer animes that have an ending or are constantly progressing towards a defined ending like One Piece. So I'm waiting for the series to end (someday?) and then I'll marathon the whole series over a few weeks. I hate hanging onto series for years without closure because sometimes the series suddenly disappears without a real ending.
I am almost 500 episodes into the anime and it's still fantastic! I watched it on TV when I was a little kid and it was seriously the best. Started watching it on and off during high school it still hasn't lost its charm for me even though the story progression is really slow. I don't really know everything about it yet (I don't read manga) but I'm definitely a big big fan :D
I too got hooked on the series when it aired on Adult Swim, but have actually picked up the series again though I tend to skip a quite a bit to get to the more interesting episodes. It is kind of a shame the series seems like it will never end with it being a floating timeline where Conan never grows older and there being endless cases. The Black Organization episodes are great where they do and do not get closer to catching the big bad guys. The same can also be said for every special even the relationship ones it does and doesn't advance.
This manga is the best I've ever read, and probably will remain so. For Aoyama Gosho to think of numerous insane cases to keep us entertained for hundreds of chapters until now is truly magnificent. I'm still getting goosebumps everytime Kid, Gin or Vodka show up in a chapter. The anime adaption is very well-made also, which is rare for such a huge series like this.
Overall Detective Conan is perfect. The only downside I can think of is that the Black Org. has relatively few scenes (which is understandable, considering how slow the story progresses) and the English-translated names (I can't bring myself to say Jimmy Kudo or Rachel Moore, they just don't sound right. Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mori all the way xD)
I've been thinking of going back and rewatching all the plot-relevant episodes. The plot-relevant episodes are amazing, but I've been getting tired of all the filler. Makes me forget so many things that happened.
