eMG instantly on the map more then they were before with this signing.

TIL most people dont know what EMG is...
also while im here, ill share my thoughts....
meh. This whole service just makes money off of its personalities/players, for doing stuff like Reading and sending emails for them. At the MOST they are responsible for contract negotiations. None of which these personalities/people cant handle themselves.
Lets get real, these guys are nowhere near Professional Athlete/Movie star levels where they need Agents because they are constantly flooded with requests, sponsor opportunities, etc.
IDK thread should just be "Greg Field hired EGM as his agency." and more people would understand what exactly this whole thread is actually about.

hmm never heard of EMG but good luck to both i guess

It's really handwavy at the moment. Like I said, I know what they do in theory, but as this is relatively new to have professional marketing agencies in eSports (afaik), it's really hard for me to witness the improvements and comfort they bring to players. All I know is that their "What We Do" section on their site is a bundle of buzzwords, like this is usually the case with that sort of thing/website.
Let's take an example. I see that Tasteless is one of their clients. Can somebody tell me of one thing Tasteless did recently that could have been helped by eMG? The Ttesports sponsorship? Streaming the HotS campaign? World of Tanks casting even? I guess the ttesports sponsorship makes sense. Ever heard of Tasteless not being able to do an event due to visa issues? Me neither. Actually no, I don't remember this (from players yes, but not from Tasteless, and we all know that recently he doesn't do any other casting than Code S and World of Tanks at GOM /sadface). But this would help how? Other than eMG spamming him with "GET YOUR VISA MAN, DON'T FORGET!", I don't see what more they can do in that regard. They can't get a visa for him. If Tasteless has to give them all that is required to fill the paperwork, he might as well do it himself. Agents are largely invisible and do all the footwork for you. Movie stars for example never really have to talk to anyone when negotiating how much they'll do for a movie, what they're willing to do for a movie, etc... Its not exactly "visa" per say but anything really. They make life easier for the player not in a practice sense, but in a moving around the business sense. I guess. While that makes sense to me for movie stars, eMG's clients are far from having the same scale of shit to manage. They may be the most star-like in eSports(TM), but I don't know if eMG's existence is really warranted yet.
Looking at some numbers: they're 5 guys to manage 13 clients. Their clients don't earn millions though, they earn pretty average salaries (very high for Starcraft 2 maybe, but still reasonably average for your everyday life). How much does Tasteless make? I doubt he makes enough to pay a huge sum back to eMG right? And they got only 13 clients like this, with as many as 5(!) guys dealing with their business. Something doesn't add up here. I like Tasteless and he's awesome, but motherfucking agents, to manage his Code S and World of Tanks casting, really?

Times when you need to show up at places, contact information for the people you are meeting. Add additional things if you are working at an event. Agents take care of all that stuff and allow the person to do their job when they get to the event. It is awesome indeed. But you have to earn the big bucks for an agent to be worth it, that's my point. I have to travel for my work, but I still take care of visa, food, plane tickets and all that, and it doesn't take me that much time either :D

Why in god's name are you trying to argue that eMG shouldn't be in business lol. I'm gonna venture a guess that they know better than you do whether they should be in the esports business.

So does eMG act as a traditional agency? Will they take a portion of Idra's earnings as a result of signing him?
You would think Idra would know which contacts in the industry are most viable to him and be able to make arrangements for himself. I don't really understand why he would sign with eMG. Seems like a waste for Idra, as other people said. Perhaps eMG has some major contacts that we aren't aware of, it still looks like that eMG has more to gain from signing people like Idra, Artosis, and Tasteless. Perhaps they are trying to gain some legitimacy from these big names before they offer services to lesser names and teams.

Most(if not all) of the guys doing this are not doing it as their full time job. We don't know how much money they make or how they are paid. Agents are important for people in the entertainment field because they do a lot of the time consuming ground work that is difficult to manage if you have another full time profession(aka casting the GSL).
Rather than assuming you now Tasteless's business works, just accept that he is a professional and know what he is doing. I don't understand why people constantly post about business deals they barely understand.

haha I thought the same thing. Wish there were more details here, will he be casting, producing content or what?? Guess we will find out in time.

I posted because I precisely don't understand it, geniuses. And I must say that all I've read hasn't been really helping me understand :/ Well, I already guessed they weren't doing that full time anyway, but thank you all for your answers nonetheless. I'll just have to trust you on the apparently obvious fact that "it's awesome" and that "eMG has been doing a wonderful job".

What deals have eMG actually secured for their clients?

Yeah this was kind of a strange announcement.. I'm sure it's a good thing for Idra, but i just find it weird how ambiguous the announcement was.
Either way, Congrats Idra, hope it works out really well.

Yeah I pretty much thought this was going to happen after he announced that he didn't want to play professionally anymore and wanted a real agent instead of using EG as an agent.
