In the end, everyone will have their own opinions on it, and that's fantastic. Not everyone is going to agree, and solid, well thought out critiques are only good. These last few however, have been anything but.

If you don't like the style, that's all well and good, not everyone is going to nor do they have to. Theme-park MMOs(Or "WoW clones" as you so thoughtfully put it) are not bad games just because that's the route they chose. They went with that style because it's in demand, and as much as everyone wants to plug their ears and complain about WoW it's still the measuring stick, and until someone comes along and reinvents the wheel so to speak, these games will continue to be popular. Heres my solid and well thought out criticism again: It looks cartoonish and it has action bar based combat which are both things i dont like so i will pass on this one. What more do you want me to say?

What more do you want me to say? I disagree with the art looking cartoonish, and personally really like the look they went with but to each their own. I also don't have a problem against action bar combat, considering that's how just about every game plays. You can dress it up however you want, or hide the action bars entirely, but the mechanics behind it are the same everywhere. Your critque wasn't even really the one I was getting at, more heishe claiming the game is going to flop because it has things he doesn't like, or the developers are some how creating their own game wrong. Critique is cool, blatant attacks against a game that very, very few people have had any hands-on experience with isn't.

Would you call gameplay in games like Dark Souls (even with lock on target) or Chivalry action bar based? Calling it action bars in disguise is really a stretch. I just want an MMO with dark souls combat.

I like the visual style, and the gameplay seems kind of entertaining so far. Also, 40 man raids? Bring it Man, I feel the same 100%. I really like that its more focused around PvE than PvP and you gotta admire the dev´s balls to bring back 40 man raids. However I am concerned about the amount of particle effects. WoW has a bare minimum and it can be hard to see wtf is going on when 40 people are all fighting in the same area. I dislike the trend that seems to be modern these days to restrict avaliable skills. It makes the game more simple and "clean" but it also limits the skill cap. It will be interesting to see what news come out in the next months. Classes, races, zones and such.

I see what you're getting at though, and can agree with you on it. It's not for everyone and they've been done to death already. Well you can call Quake action bar based then. You are stretching the definition of "action bar based play" way too much so that it becomes pointless. EDIT: i think this argument is pointless and lame so we should wrap it up

I'm in the same boat since I read what the devs intend to do about raiding here : http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/what_is_wildstar_raids.php I would love to experience 40-man raids again in a whole new game.

In the end, everyone will have their own opinions on it, and that's fantastic. Not everyone is going to agree, and solid, well thought out critiques are only good. These last few however, have been anything but. You're overlooking a very serious issue. Theme-park MMOs aren't inherently bad games, but they do have the burden of being better than WoW. That style is in demand because a lot of people play WoW and WoW is an old game on its way out. There are people looking for another game to give them the same satisfaction that WoW has given them for years. But no game has been able to do that, so I'm not sure where you are coming from when you say "these games will continue to be popular." Almost every major MMO that is similar to WoW that has been released in the last 10 years has failed to differing degrees. Some are dead, some still have a small playerbase, but none have been able to maintain a following anywhere near the level of World of Warcraft. So how can you say they will be popular just because they are a theme-park MMO. All indications are that if people want to play that type of game, they will just play World of Warcraft. No developer has been able to break this trend, so why will Wildstar? For the same reason people can't condemn the game without having hands-on experience, you can't laud it either. The first thing I thought when watching TB's video, when they went into the game world was "Wow, that looks exactly like Durotar or the Barrens." They're doing a lot of interesting stuff with the Soldier/Explorer and world events, but it's not enough. The core gameplay is still heavily derived from WoW, and while there is nostalgia to be had from 40-man raids, I spent many hours for many years being a hardcore WoW-player, I have no desire to do it over again with a different skin on it. And that would be fine for the game if I was a minority, but I don't think I am. You said it yourself, someone needs to come along and reinvent the wheel, and I don't think Wildstar has done it. It will be moderately successful at first, as any well-polished MMO is, but people will get bored when they realize they've done this before.

WoW gcd is X for every skill you have. Games like tera have the complexity added that those animations require aim and every skill have different range/animation. Trying to say they are "kinda" the same is just stupid. To be honest, after playing AoC i never could enjoy a TAB targetting GCD game, they feel so bland to me. Tera atleast is giving me some awesome gameplay (i don't care about how bad it maybe on high end, whenever i feel i am not having fun, i just quit, no problemo). About Wildstar i liked the video of the redchick, then i watched some gameplay, with the "draenei" ... dunno, i loved vanilla WoW, but i don't think i can enjoy it again

But I agree it could have been really great. Wildstar seems very cool for me because of the design, it's the first mmo world I wanted to play in in a long time, if the combat, classes and PvP deliver interesting content I dont really care about it being theme-park..

The main thing that has me worried is that it will be all flash and zero content. The usual problem that nearly all MMOs except WoW have

I like the style of it, it reminds me of a Hitchhiker's Guide type of goofiness/sci-fi. If I get in, I'll be sure to post a review. Anyone else in beta?

And you know this how? Considering the game isn't even in beta yet that's a rather large claim to make.
