E.g. consider the extreme case, if the GCD was 10 seconds, i.e. essentially turn-based, players on a slow connection are not disadvantaged compared to someone on a fast connection. GCDs also stop spells from being endlessly spammed. This increases strategic depth, so faster button clickers, or fastest connections, or the guy who has macroed 100 spells to 1 button, doesn't necessarily win. Macros that cast millions of spells in a few seconds without a GCD can also cause server stability issues.

I've heard a LOT of complaints, but the existence of a GCD has never been one of them lol

For example everquest 2 uses a cast based system. Some casts like quick melee strikes are under half a second cast time, but it prevents your spamming concern. The advantage is that animations can line up perfectly with the casttime and everything feels fluid. Its one of the best mmo combat systems i have ever seen. Aion, tera are using animation based systems where skills have an animation and you can not do anything until its completed. Im sure there are other examples. global cooldown is the lazy solution that really hinders combat gameplay. Maybe in your circles this is a nojn issue since everyone is use to it since World of warcraft, but there are a lot of people who despise it. yeah, laugh at me for saying i like fluid casting and animation based combat more than every ability blocking out my hotkey bar for 1.5 seconds. very mature guys. I will stay away from here from now on

Global cooldowns are there to protect server stability, as was mentioned, and to prevent the endless spamming of abilities, as was also mentioned.

Does anyone know how the endgame works? What are players expected to do at endgame? Where do the best items come from? How is the dungeon content? Is PvP decently balanced and is there PvP gear?

This might interest you: http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/what_is_wildstar_raids.php It's an article talking about raids and the like. Pretty interesting read, imo. And the first batch of beta invites has been sent, I think. Sadly, I'm not part of it. Is there an NDA on the beta? Probably, right?
