So I thought that they didn't handle the Narud story very well. A shapeshifter that is Amon's most powerful creation and he's stuck producing a couple of hybrid soldiers for Mengsk. They are all contained, although there are maybe enough of them to take over the facility there, assuming that Narud could rig the facility to allow them to escape. It could be a staging ground in Dominion space for the coming hybrid war and maybe he's gladly using Dominion resources for this purpose, which might be difficult to acquire personally. It could be that he's lying in wait, having completed his mission to cleanse Kerrigan and capture her energy to resurrect Amon, and now simply has nothing better to do than producing a couple of soldiers.
In any case, there is some missed opportunity there. He is not only Narud, he was also Kerrigan's trusted lieutenant Samir Duran and there is not even an acknowledgement of this fact in the game. He is a shapeshifter, yet the only time he uses this ability is to taunt Kerrigan in his death scene. He doesn't need to be in his Dr. Narud form full-time, it's easy enough to have the Dominion continue to produce after he has shown them the procedure and then manage them in absence. Why isn't he off undercover somewhere to have all the fans guessing about his whereabouts and what character he could be?
I had a story idea that would be somewhat bizarre for the Starcraft 2 setting, but I thought it was funny. Basically, there would be a number of characters that Kerrigan came into contact with and they would all turn out to be this shapeshifter. And if Kerrigan would ever visit the home base of one of them the resident people there would say something unassuming like: "yeah, he hasn't been around a lot recently", which would be because he is off somewhere impersonating someone else, but Kerrigan and the audience need not catch on right away.
In any case, he didn't really display a high level of intelligence and initiative compared to his role in Brood War, where he took personal action. He did order Jim Raynor around for most of the WoL campaign, but clearly it's impossible to be certain that Jim Raynor would succeed in all of his endeavors, so for me it resembles a Gambit Roulette a bit too much.
Also, I suppose that Amon and other Xel Naga are going to look mostly like Narud's real form?
