The more people playing, say PoE (just as an example), the better the game will be because of it. More money for the devs, more content for me. Everyone wins <3 That doesn't work in Blizzard's case tho.

They sold 12 Million copies of Diablo 3 last year. I played WoW for 8 years, you know how many WoW killer-of-the-month came and went during that time? I'm sure when they finally announce the next D3 expansion with some teaser class / runes / whatevershouldhavebeeninD3release and the xpack will sell at least 6+ million copies. >_> And by then no one will remember PoE is my guess.

WoW is not the same genre as D3/PoE. There was never a WoW killer true, but WoW also didn't belly flop into the asphault like D3.

My motivation is to find the perfect item. As far as I am aware there has yet to be a single 100% perfect item. Which actually kind of puts me off from trying. After 9 months with tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people trying... we have yet to win the lottery.

i think we should probably stay on topic. this has nothing to do with what the op was asking. poe vs. d3 is being actively discussed in several other threads in the d3 forum already.

The problem with the WoW-killer mentality is that people are attached to a game they actively play, and like many things, the more time you invest, the harder it is to step away. You don't take WoW's players by making a better game, you simply attract the people who were already bored and were looking for something new to begin with.
Games don't "kill" other games, players just lose interest in games and wait for something else to occupy their time.
A large percentage of D3's player-base is already at that stage, as anyone can see from post-patch traffic. You've got your die-hard core that will keep playing regardless of anything, and then everyone else that just pops in from time-to-time, and will have some interest when new content arrives.

Gearing up for MP10 ubers on my CM wizard kept me going for a while. I suppose patch 1.07 and the new crafting will keep entertainment for another week.

I was really hoping this game would do truth to the Diablo franchise but it just didn't do it for me. Couple characters played on hardcore and then I lost interest. What happened when you level?..... nothing, follow the line.
|
Why do you even need to find motivation to play the game? If it's boring just don't play it.

For me it is mainly about the drops. Had some good luck first 25 paragon levels and found 3 items around 50M, and a few around 20M. After paragon 30 though (now 50), I have found nothing I sold for more than 10M, and only one or two above 5M. Which does make it boring. How many hours of farming for that 6cc-mempo-class drop before I give up? We will see...
Doing keys/ubers does make it better though.

Doing keys/ubers does make it better though. Strange, I had like the exact same experience. First 25 paragon levels I found several items which were worth a lot... I am up to like 40ish now and basically nothing. Even went about 3 levels (was like 32-35) without a single legendary dropping.

IMMAPLAYINTINFOILHAT!! gotfiftenlegendariesworth1bileachin30mins!! Promeees eet werkz!!
But in all seriousness, I hear you. At a certain point it also felt like I got good drops just after I had gotten more MF gear... >_>
In the end it is not outside what you can expect from RNG though. Maybe we also feel a bit biased, because at first, every legendary makes you a bit excited, even if it ends up being salvaged, but now I don't even blink when legendary two handed sword number 3 in the same run drops... Imagine how lucky I would have felt if I got three legendaries in the same run when I was paragon lvl 10!

Play hardcore, it's soooooooooooo much better. I could never go back to softcore after gaming hardcore mode. It made d3 100x more fun.

none, cashed out, got dota 2

I'll share how it went/goes for me in a chronological format heh:
-In the start it was plain fun, leveling was fun, playing with IRL friends was fun -Got boring. Time to quit? But then this TL thread popped up about A3 mf/group farming.. Became lots of fun again for a monthish -Many players moved on from the game, to hardcore, etc. At this point I began playing AH3 -- found that I was actually having a lot of fun doing that (can multitask, can just hop in for a 15 minute session, etc). Made a ton of gold doing it too. But then, this slowed down too. No fun -With tons of gold massed, rather than cashout/quit, completed some key upgrades, became capable breezing thru mp10 ubers easily, did hundreds of runs. Got a sick trifecta + life% HF ring after ~100 runs, continued doing them exclusively and nothing else for pure fun with D3 friends (no real life friends/TL friends left playing at this point for the most part) -Now i've grown tired of ubers, wrists sore from spamming lol. More players/friends from D3 have quit. AH traffic is all but dead -- no more possibility of playing "AH3". -Cashing out, moving on, satisfied

There is an un-written part that goes like this; "Expansion comes out. I come back to D3 and so do 90% of my friends and now the game is a lot better than it was before so I'm enjoying it again."
Let's not forget that every Blizz game has gotten wayyyy better with expansions. Let's give it hope, if the expansion face flops on the ground, then the game is officially over/dead in my eyes.

Why you wanna do that? High MPs are never worth it. Because the ridiculous amount of HP will never make it possible to farm efficiently.

I agree that gearing up for higher MPs adds to the fun, and ubers are what motivates me to do that, so that is one thing working well in D3 imo.
