I am planning to go back to playing D3. I left my Barb after reaching paragon 40.
I just want to know from you guys, what are your motivation to still play diablo 3.
As for me, I got pretty bored running Act 3 inferno in MP 3 for standard mindless runs. A3 MP 1-2 to level paragon A3 MP 5-6 for item hunting.
The game pretty much died for me, it is like having a girlfriend since 13 that you grew old and fell out of love.
Last thing got me excited was to hunt for leoric's signet that I got after making my monk 60 but after I got that and reached paragon 40 I got tired and tried to explore other games like Ragnarok Online 2 or probably going back to SC2 in preparation for HoTs. Last thing I heard there was a PTR for PvP.
Again I am just curious on how are people still motivated in playing diablo3.
Thanks in advance for sharing.

Well you said you're trying out other games like Ragnarok Online 2 to try and replace D3, so why not check out Path Of Exile, if you haven't already.

It's like gambling for me - no different than a slot machine. You put in the time (or money IRL) and hope you get lucky. It can be addicting and fun.
I've recently moved to a new house and don't have internet so I cashed out a month ago or so and haven't played since. I don't really miss it as weird as that sounds - I played for hours every single day and I enjoyed it a lot. I thought I'd really miss it but so far, I have other games/things to keep me entertained. And, like you, I am looking forward to HotS and getting back into SC2.
If you enjoy it then play it, if you don't, then don't play it. There's no reason to try to make yourself enjoy something.

I try to play with friends, play in Hardcore mode only, and play with builds that I enjoy (for me, I like having skill and good decisions rewarded so I do a skill-shot Wiz).
|
My game-of-choice at the moment would be the HotS beta, but I have a very young baby at home, so I'm often called away for some time and laddering is impractical. So I need a game that will entertain me without requiring too much attention and that can be paused instantly and indefinitely if needed.
Of course, I play Hardcore only, where there's more of a sense of progression. It doesn't mix too well with insomnia though.

I quit a while ago but I still like to play forum 3

If you quit because you were bored, you wont be back for very long. Nobody is coming back to the game after this patch. There's really nothing gamebreaking being implemented. No radical changes at all. It's still the same game with some shitty pvp sprinkled on top.

I play the game primarily when I want to kill a lot of monsters and feel like a badass. Despite its flaws, D3's combat system is a definite success in my book, and that is the most appealing part of it. When the combat stops being fun, I take a break for a week or so and come back when I'm in the mood. I don't grind endlessly for loot; that has never been the appeal of Diablo games for me, personally.
I also have some benchmark goals I want to hit with my characters that keeps me somewhat interested, but really it is just about killing monsters. Finding good loot is always fun, but isn't a driving force for me.

Personally my motivation is trying out different classes/builds, and the one i like the most i stick with for most of the time. Every now and then when i get bored of a class I just hop on another (I got everything level 60, but only 1 with gear.) To be honest i think i enjoyed barb the least; it just got boring after a while ( I only reached 10 paragon or so ).
Just try something different in the game (as it doesn't really offer all that much at the minute, not as much as it should do anyways.)

this really didn't address his question at all.
i still play because i don't have a ton of time to devote to video games, so d3 suits my lifestyle really well being only able to play 1-2 hours at a time. with that time i'm able to grind towards a plvl or maybe get a lucky drop. i still get really excited when i get a legendary drop, even though i've only had a couple decent ones.

Well I can't answer his direct question as I don't play D3 myself anymore. I was just offering him a friendly suggestion as I'm loving the hell out of PoE.

What? Quite the opposite. PoE is not the prettiest game ever but the gameplay is miles above any other arpg. But I mean play whatever you like more, that's all that really matters.

My motivation is to actually find a $250 item. I've sold a bunch of items for $200+ (all flipped) but that one uber drop still eludes me!

Play Hardcore only or Path of the Exile =)
Or try something original, like melee demon hunter or something silly.

Whats wrong with that? The more people playing, say PoE (just as an example), the better the game will be because of it. More money for the devs, more content for me. Everyone wins <3
