Thank you guys, it is quite an honor to have my name mentioned up there!
As it turns out, I had just prepared a new "Mvp Schedule" with more detailed information shown below.
Poll: Do you like the new Mvp Schedule?Yes, it's an improvement. (9) 90% I like it, but it's too big - put it in spoiler tags. (1) 10% No, it's not an improvement. (0) 0% 10 total votes Your vote: Do you like the new Mvp Schedule? (Vote): Yes, it's an improvement. (Vote): I like it, but it's too big - put it in spoiler tags. (Vote): No, it's not an improvement.
EDIT: GSTL Season 1 2013's list of teams is out (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=393455). Hopefully, Mvp will all-kill every match until LG-IM wins the championship!
EDIT 2: Here is GSL's new map list for GSL Season 1 2013 Code S:
Gone GSL Abyssal City LE Mvp's Record: 5-3 (62.5%). This was actually a decent map for Mvp, so it's sad to see it go. This map helped Mvp win the NesTea award, after all. GSL Antiga Shipyard Mvp's Record: 19-8 (70.4%). Nooo, we must say goodbye to the Mvp map itself, Antiga Shipyard! I had lots of memories of Mvp on this map, especially his TvZ. He had the most standard build ever: use the Reactor Hellion to apply pressure and deny Zerg's third, establish a quick 3 Orbital Command, and expand quickly. Then, he had beautiful Tank and Bunker placement so that the Zerg couldn't punish him, and he soon moved out with a classic Tank/Marine push and dismantled the Zerg. His play on Antiga Shipyard was so beautiful... Although I'm sure that other tournaments might keep Antiga Shipyard, this feels like the end of an era. I think Antiga Shipyard will always be known as Mvp's Map. GSL Entombed Valley Mvp's Record: 14-8 (63.6%). This was another great map for Mvp. A lot of great maps for Mvp are lost this season, it seems.
Unchanged GSL Cloud Kingdom Mvp's Record: 6-8 (42.9%). Cloud Kingdom isn't exactly Mvp's best map, but he'll have to deal with it again. Hopefully, he can turn his record around and dominate this map too. GSL Daybreak Mvp's Record: 17-13 (56.7%). Daybreak is a decent map for Mvp though. Hopefully, it will continue to serve him well.
Revised GSL Bel'Shir Vestige SE Mvp's Record (Bel'Shir Vestige): 2-3 (40.0%). Not much data on this map. GSL Whirlwind SE Mvp's Record (Whirlwind): 3-8 (27.3%). Hopefully, the changes will help Mvp out, he seems to be struggling very badly here!
New GSL Akilon Flats GSL Icarus KeSPA Neo Planet S
Overall Comments As a spectator, new maps are always great. As a Mvp fan, the new maps excite me because I know that Mvp will pull out some amazing builds and it's always lovely to see Mvp play a new map. Perhaps he will pull out an imbalanced 2 Rax Bunker rush with ingenious Bunker placements, or he'll tailor a new build to the map (sort of like his beautiful TvZ Mech/Banshee build on Ohana).
However, I feel like these changes do not really help Mvp. First of all, he lost 3 of his best maps: Entombed Valley, Antiga Shipyard (The Mvp Map ), and Abyssal City. Then, we kept two of the maps that are decent for him (Daybreak and Cloud Kingdom), and we're revising two of his worst maps (Bel'Shir Vestige and Whirlwind). While the changes might help him out, I feel like he lost too many good maps and kept too many bad ones.
Overall verdict: The map pool change is bad for Mvp, but just wait and see what he'll do with the new ones. <3
|
Regarding the maps, Antiga and Entomb were good for Mvp. But I don't think Abyssal being removed is bad at all. Although Mvp has had success there. It is mostly vP. This is due to that pre storm timing you can hit on that map. But for this GSL, the main focus will be vT and vP (he has no P in his Ro32 and I doubt more than 1 P in his Ro16). And Abyssal is one of the hardest maps vs top zergs since it is so difficult to hold the third if Zerg is being aggressive.
Assuming he is health enough to get a lot of practice in, I see the new maps being an advantage to him. And honestly, if his wrist issue is still very serious and he can't practice, I don't think that maps will matter at all.
|
Cant wait to see his games in code S! Mvp and MKP is the reason i purchase GSL tickets.
ps. anyone know what steelseries mouse/pad he uses? Been looking into getting myself some new gear.
|
erm he uses the 4hd mousepad and sensei raw edition

|
I have decided that I will keep the Mvp Schedule without spoiler tags for my first post on every page, but every subsequent post on that page will have it in spoiler tags since it simply takes up too much space.
Regarding the GSL Season 1 2013 Code S Round of 32 Group Stage matches... I looked at GOMTV.net's website (Mvp's group stage match is found here: http://www.gomtv.net/live/index.gom?conid=71478) and I believe I found Mvp's first map:
Mvp <Akilon Flats> KeeN
It's one of those new maps, which is worrying since racial imbalance will play a huge role in TvT.
Other than that, I look forward to seeing Mvp come up with a great way to play this map and to dominate KeeN in the one matchup of Mvp that has always looked fairly reliable. This should be a contest of skill, preparation, and wits, and I'm confident that Mvp beats KeeN in all three.

entirety, do you know how Mvp is doing with his wrists?
His refusal to use bio scares me somewhat.
|
I don't pretend to be an expert on Mvp's current situation. However, given a couple of his recent interviews, it seems that Mvp is currently undergoing treatment for his condition. Despite the treatment, I don't think his wrists are back to healthy condition, but the treatment should have improved his condition somewhat. Perhaps it alleviates his pain.

GSL Season 5 2012 Code A Round of 32 Interview
On December 10 2012 15:56 storywriter wrote:
LG-IMMVP You have up GSL World Championships to get treatment. How are you right now? I'm currently receiving physiotherapy and exercising regularly. My posture hasn't been fixed entirely so my head still hurts. I was worried about all of my treatment going to waste because of practising for Code A. I will continue treatment. I got first place in GSL World Championships last year so I regret being unable to participate this year but long flights are really taxing so I had to give it up. You have Code A Round 3 this week and Grand Finals next week. This must be hard on you It's going to be hard to receive treatment while there are two tournaments so close together. Whenever I practise or play a match, I can't exert any force with my hands and my head starts to ache quite badly. That's why I expect those matches to be very difficult.
Also, during Mvp's Christmas streaming, his coach confirmed through the stream chat that Mvp is undergoing treatment. There is also LG-IM's post which vowed to rest and return healthy in 2013.
Overall, I think the problem with the treatment is that Mvp doesn't stop winning long enough to fully receive the benefits of treatment! With tournaments back to back and a little treatment sprinkled in between, it's only a band-aid to keep him playing long enough to win his next match. However, with the winter break (from his Code A Round of 24 match against sOs to his Code S Round of 32 Group Stage matches on January 30), he should have a little more time to rest and recover.
As for why he doesn't use bio, I can think of a couple of reasons: 1) He can use bio, but not for extended periods of time (not 40-50 games of bio, that's too straining), which makes him less inclined to practice bio. He practices mech more 2) The metagame - after all, he came out with a spiffy new Mech build at IEM Cologne, Terrans seem to be favoring more mech, and Infestors shut down bio pretty hard. 3) What's wrong with his mech style anyway? It took 3 games in a row from Life and a few changes here or there could have given Mvp the G5L trophy. I'd say his mech is pretty damn good
I think we know that Mvp is still capable of using bio. There have been a few games scattered among the past few months where he suddenly pulls out crazy multitasking and micro, high APM intensive moves and people wonder if Mvp is "cured" - well, it just so happens that the King got bored of playing around.
In either case, one of Mvp's greatest assets is his adaptability. He was relevant back in January of 2011, and he is relevant now in January of 2013, about to play in the world's hardest league, and guess what? He's favored to go through the group again (I would say so, and many other people would say so too). That's no mere coincidence. When Terrans used Marine/Tank, Mvp was great at drop harass, splitting, tank positioning, pushing. When Terrans used bio, Mvp was great at stutter step, splitting, splitting off his army. When Terrans used mech, Mvp was there with his star sense ("Mvp sense"), decision making, positioning, patience. Whatever style that Mvp chooses, I'm sure he'll make it work.
|
I would put Mvp up as likely the smartest Terran alive. But everyone knows his Mech builds came out of necessity because he is unable to use bio, not because he thinks mech is better. Bio, afterall is still superior in the current meta game (this might change in HotS, so there's hope).
The problem isn't the mech itself, it's the fact that Mvp HAS to use mech, which allows his opponent to blindly hard counter him and win. Do you remember DRG vs Mvp at Blizzard Cup? Blind +1 carapace into roach nydus to deny gas. Mech is so expensive and rightly more difficult to produce than bioplay. A lot of people still hold that the marine is the still the most cost effective unit in the Terran Arsenal, I'm afraid that Mvp's inability to use the marine will hold him back from being the champion he deserves to be, once again.
|
I cant wait to see what he pulls off vs Keen on Akilon Flats. From my TvTs on that map i can say that it is an excellent battlefield to execute ridiculous tank positioning :D

Hey guys, have you seen this? Die4Ever made a list of the top 20 words that appear in the last 25 pages of Mvp's fan club:
On January 22 2013 10:35 Die4Ever wrote:

I can see that I've skewed the list quite heavily. xD The appearance of the words "IGN" "division" "premier" "e-sports" as in Karont3 e-Sports Club (from IPTL Premier Division), "chapter" "ii" "Mini" (from Iron Squid Chapter II), "Flying" "league" (from GSL) and "schedule" all come from the Mvp Schedule at the bottom of my posts...
Maybe I've been posting in here a bit too much. o.O
Pssst: One week until LG-IM vs. MVP in IPTL Season 1 2013 Premier Division Group Stage! Sure, Mvp might not play, but why not tune in anyway?

I'm a little bit surprised "sign me up" isn't on that list.

LG-IM's coach has posted (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=395151) about supporting LG. Do it, for the good of LG, IM, and our favorite player, Mvp!
His GSL matches will be played soon, and when Mvp dominates the competition again, and LG sees all the fan posts on the Facebook page, then LG will surely continue to sponsor IM for the rest of 2013.
EDIT: LG-IM coach's follow-up post: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=395645
Things are looking up for LG-IM already this year with 1st place at IEM Katowice (First) and 3rd place at Iron Squid Chapter II (NesTea). Now, with Mvp's Code S matches coming up, hopefully it comes full circle back to where it all started: Korea and the GSL domination we've come to expect from LG-IM. Go go Mvp!
EDIT 2: I added a few things to the Mvp Schedule... first is Mvp's 22nd Birthday on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
The second is IEM Season VI World Championship Group Stage which Mvp qualified for by taking 1st place at IEM Season VI Cologne (Gamescon). It will take place between Wednesday, March 6, 2013 and Sunday, March 10, 2013.
EDIT 3: Check out IPTL Season 1 2013 Premier Division tomorrow with LG-IM vs. MVP! Will Mvp play against MVP? Well, MVP is a great team, so it is entirely possible that MVP will draw out the full talent line-up from LG-IM, but with Mvp's Code S match coming up, it's unlikely that Mvp will play. Still, it would be interesting to see if Mvp comes out... perhaps he can overcome TAiLS this time.
EDIT 4: GSL is back baby! GSL Season 1 2013 Code S Round of 32 Group Stage is here, with Mvp, RorO, MarineKing, and KeeN participating in Group F! Don't miss the action!
Team Liquid's preview is found here:
On January 30 2013 03:58 TeamLiquid ESPORTS wrote:Group F: Dealing with Old Acquaintances MarineKingPrime, Samsung_RorO, MVP.KeeN, LG-IM_MvpThe story headlining Group F is doubtlessly the most abusive relationship in the history of Starcraft 2: that of MarineKingPrime and LG-IM_Mvp. The two have met many times over the years, and out of 24 official games, Mvp has won 20 of them while not losing a single series. The two other players in Samsung Khan’s RorO and MVP’s KeeN don’t possess half the name value that Mvp and MKP do, but RorO’s resurgence in Proleague and Keen’s string of strong performances toward the end of last year make them serious contenders in this group. The second match of the night is between IM_Mvp, who is once again starting to be doubted by the fans, and MVP_KeeN, who has recently had reason to be optimistic. The former had a rough ride in last season’s Ro32 with somewhat one-sided losses to Creator and DongRaeGu, and the latter fared only a little better as he too went out, losing to Bogus and Leenock. However, both of them seemed to shake off the effects of those questionable performances, and advanced out of Code A in convincing fashion. Their ups and downs in form make it hard to evalulate their skill, and the fact that neither played a TvT on their way back to Code S makes it even more difficult. TvT has historically been Mvp’s strongest match-up, at his best being completely untouchable, and at worst making him one of the few to dominate MKP even at the times when the Prime Terran was at his peak. But Keen has shown that he is no slouch in the match-up, and was practically bursting with confidence in his Code A interview, convinced that early 2013 would be the year when he finally broke through as a true championship contender. As Keen does not have any recent recorded TvT games (his latest being his 0-2 loss to InnoVation), the edge must go to the player who has shown himself to be a deadly force in the match-up for nearly all of Wings of Liberty. Mvp may not be NaDa, a player who simply would not lose to KeeN under any circumstances, but he's similar enough to him in the "used to win a bunch of stuff all the time" aspect. If that's something that gives you an inherent advantage against KeeN, then Mvp has no lack of trophies to draw power from. Overall outlook and predictionsEvery Mvp fan around the world will be begging for Marineking to beat RorO and for Mvp to beat Keen so that Mvp can have a free ride to the Round of 16, seeing as MKP is “The only easy player remaining in Code S”. However, with the condition MKP might be in, it seems more likely that the winner’s match will end up being Mvp vs. RorO. Condition is a concern for Mvp as well, and you never know which version of him will show up in the Round of 32. Will it be the supremely intelligent Mvp who picks apart opponents like toys, or will it be the Mvp hinting at past greatness but ultimately being bested by hurting wrists? We know that Mvp does not necessarily follow the same rules of logic as everyone else, sometimes advancing over massive favorites in their peak form, and sometimes losing in completely humiliating fashion against players he should beat eleven times out of ten. His recent loss to Goswser in Iron Squid would indicate that it is Mvp’s weak form that is going to show up but, to echo certain other writers, counting out Mvp has many times proven to be utterly foolish, and so I must argue that he is still the favorite in this group. Marineking < RorOMvp > KeeN Mvp > RorO Marineking < KeeNRorO > KeeN Mvp and RorO advance.
My own Mvp-biased preview:
First Match
Mvp TvT Lifetime: 66.39% TvT 2012-2013: 54.76% TvT Last 10: 70%
KeeN TvT Lifetime: 42.31% TvT 2012-2013: 40.00% TvT Last 10: 40%
Head to Head Record: 3-1 (75.0%) Starting Map: Akilon Flats
Mvp's first opponent is KeeN, a fellow Korean Terran. KeeN is an odd one; he seems to be a good Code A to Code S level Terran who can occasionally surprise people by beating high profile players. However, the statistics show that Mvp is simply superior to KeeN in TvT. In fact, TvT has been the match-up of Mvp that never really degrades and there are no balance issues with TvT to worry about. Generally speaking, Mvp can be counted on to be pretty consistent in this match-up, and the main people he loses to are MMA (but not anymore) and TaeJa when TaeJa is hot.
Mvp's recent form has looked worrying with his worst night ever at Blizzard Cup 2012 and a 0-3 loss to goswser, but those are TvP and TvZ. He has still won 7 of the last 10 TvTs and KeeN beating Mvp would truly be a big upset at this stage. I'll go ahead and say that Mvp takes this 2-0.
The Rest of the Night
Mvp TvZ Lifetime: 59.79% TvZ 2012-2013: 52.94% TvZ Last 10: 20%
MarineKing TvT Lifetime: 56.39% TvT 2012-2013: 73.58% TvT Last 10: 40% Head to Head Record: 18-4 (81.8%)
RorO ZvT Lifetime: 72.22% ZvT Last 10: 60% Head to Head Record: 0-0
Against RorO, Mvp will certainly have the toughest time. Mvp's TvZ looked absolutely abysmal (0-3 loss to goswser, 0-2 loss to Stephano, and terrible losses at Blizzard Cup 2012) while RorO seems to be fairly good in the matchup. Never count Mvp out, but at this point, I think it's safe to favor nearly any Zerg against Mvp until Mvp gets his TvZ together. The new patch might benefit Mvp though. Still, RorO will be a good test for Mvp because RorO is the type of Zerg that Mvp should beat. If Mvp wants the last Wings of Liberty championship, Mvp will need to compete with the Lifes and DongRaeGus of the world, not the RorOs.
Even though MarineKing has shown superb skill in TvT during 2012, MarineKing will never ever beat Mvp. Ever. It's that simple - MarineKing is the punching bag and Mvp is the fist headed towards MarineKing's head, ready to crush MarineKing's dreams into dust. Hey, that's been their relationship so far!
Overall Predictions MarineKing < RorO Mvp > KeeN RorO > Mvp MarineKing > Keen Mvp > MarineKing
Mvp advances to the Round of 16 in 2nd place!

One king to whoop asses that last WoL GSL.

I don't think the losses to goswer and Stephano are strong indications that Mvp is doing badly in TvZ. They're good players, but at the same time those games were taking place when Mvp was undergoing treatment for his wrists and after the Blizzard Cup, it's pretty safe to assume that these games were to keep him in check more than anything (better to play a BoX series than not playing one and he was invited for Iron Squid, so it'd be pretty rude to decline to play).
I hope he can overcome the group easily as we all would expect him too. But with everyone always keeping one eye on Mvp when he is in any group, I'm sure RorO, MKP and KeeN will all have at least one pocket strategy to try and pull off against him. That said, hope he beats KeeN and then the winner of MKP vs RorO. If it goes to Set 5, it would depend a whole lot on who Mvp's opponent would be. Mvp will have a psychological advantage over MKP but against RorO and KeeN, I think it can go either way. 2-0 seems unlikely, 2-1 or 1-2 are realistic scores but 0-2 is not out of the picture as well. Really praying for a 2-0, come on G5L in the final WoL season!
