Evil Geniuses' Marcus "ThorZaIN" Eklöf is the first ever foreigner to grab the honor of the MVP title for Proleague round one.
On January 3rd, 2013, reporters from all around put in their votes for the round one MVP for SC2 Proleague 2012-2013 and ThorZaIN won the first place spot.
Marcus Eklöf won against STX SouL's Classic in game five on Arkanoid on December 29th, 2012, and gave EG-TL the final needed victory. That victory put ThorZaIN into candidacy for the MVP spot for Proleague round one. In the end, ThorZaIN defeated Team 8's BaBy, EG-TL's Jaedong, and KT Rolster's Flash in the voting competition and grabbed the MVP title for round one.
ThorZaIN's victory was really special because his victory was the first foreigner victory against a Korean in over seven years and six months for Proleague. The last foreigner to win before ThorZaIN was back in 2006 during SKY Proleague where E-Nature Top's Legionnaire won against ClouD. Afterwards, no other foreigner took a victory, nor did they have opportunities to get sent out.
EG-TL's supervisor, Hwanni, stated that "ThorZaIN's victory in Proleague was the first foreigner victory in 2748 days so I think that's why it has been receiving a lot of recognition. I believe this achievement is not only a victory for ThorZaIN but for every other foreigner player out there as well."
P.S. According to Daily eSports, ThorZaIN has been given the nickname "Blue Eyed Warrior"

What the hell ??? Oh Thorzain, I see you're not done trolling my FPL team from R1.
|
This is awesome thorzain! good job! I will remember to congratulate you on skype
|
lol... watching thorzain win was cool and all but... they gave him MVP? I've never watched proleague before but doesn't this by itself kind of make the title completely useless...?
|
Talk about throwing 'em a bone, lol.
But nice anyway, congrats to Thorzain!
|
To be fair, this award has always been completely arbitrary, so it's not like they're making some sort of strange exception to give it to Thorzain here. Good on him~

MVP for winning 1 game? How does this award usually work?
|
I suppose I feel less of an impact since the Proleague win is in a different game, but nonetheless congrats to Thorzain for representing foreigners.

Well, it is the first foreigner win in so long. Congratulations Thorzain!
|
Wow really? Congrats to Thorzain I guess, they must really not put much faith in foreigners >>.
|
That's odd, but it's interesting that a foreigner winning (in that amount of time) is significant to Koreans. Would have thought it's more of a big deal to us, and that be it.

Just cause' you only win 1 game doesn't mean you're not the MVP. And if you read, it'll tell you how the voting process is done.

Grats but...
That's MESSED UP.
He beat out FLASH for MVP of round one...
|
A good gesture by the Korean community towards integration, lets hope Thorzain can live up to the expectations that come with this title.
|
1-3 = MVP ? How unfair...
|
Well i for one think its good that they decided to honor him in this way. A foreigner winning is a big deal since it hasn't happen in such a long time. And i guess this is also their way of saying now we are in even playing field? maybe koreans will take foreigners more seriously now.
