My bounty this sale:
the walking dead (A-, awesome game but gets a bit slow/boring sometimes, but I can't say enough good things about the first 5 episodes. Way more brutal than the show, not sure about comics, overall I've had a BLAST with this decision maker game).
Doom 3 + Expansion (More of a nostaliga buy, at $3.24 I couldn't pass it up. I beat Doom3 when it was released but I've never played the expansion. I plan to replay d3 then do the expac just because I feel like it!)
The elder scrolls: Oblivion and Morrowind. (I never tried Morrowind, and I had oblivion when it was released but my PC was to terrible back then to play. I've installed the morrowind overhaul mod and plan to tackle morrowind first. I can't wait to get through these games!)
If anyone has some suggestions on games that are still on sale based on what I've bought, let me know!
For reference, my favorite games of the recent past
1) Dota 2) Dark Souls (might be my favorite 'single' player game ever) 3) Skyrim 4) SC2
I used to never play single player games but I'm finding some love for them lately. They are nice and relaxing compared to the constant competitiveness of dota/sc2.

Seeing To the Moon on Flash Sale reminded me that I bought the game a few months ago but never got the chance to play it due to some technical issues (had to turn off DEP for the game).
I've only played the first couple of hours of the game but I fell it love with it already. It was an emotional roller-coaster. The story really brought my romantic side out. The music is hauntingly beautiful, perfectly complimenting the melancholic atmosphere. Lots of humor sprinkled all around prevented it from taking itself too seriously.
At only $3.40 I highly recommend it, especially to the more mature gamers.

Also, obvious Bastion recommendation. Just... just buy it. Sexy storytelling and awesome gameplay as hard or easy as you want it to be.
Edit: Also Thief series is a standard huge recommendation from me. THE first person sneaker that started it all. Also okayish graphics with mods.

based on your purchases, I'd recommend you to try Dead Space. I'm more the competitive gamer myself, too (playing WC3, SC2, DotA, Counter-Strike, for a long time), but I feel like there are so many games I have missed in all my online-sessions... and because of massive hours of training Sc2 I felt like playing some Sci-Fi game, and I saw Dead Space for sale, so I tried it, and it really gave me the creeps at some points! I have to say, that sometimes I feel the need for some horror/splatter, so it influenced my choice, but seeing you purchasing Doom 3 and The Walking Dead, you should be on the same boat as me. When I finished the game I felt kinda relieved (due to the shock- and horror moments), but it was worth all the money (5€, lol)! I'm definitely going to try Dead Space 2 (and 3), after I finished Half-Life 2 (and Ep1+2). That saying, I just finished Half-Life 1 last week (after 14years!), and I'm also having much fun with Half-Life 2 so far... so if you're interested in one of the greatest Ego-Shooters out there, get the Orange Box (it's also on Holiday Sale), and I just remember that the Half-Life 1 remake with the Half-Life 2 engine has been finished some weeks(?) ago, you should give it a try, too!
... just my 2 cents
--- Edit: oh, and btw, if you're looking for more "relaxing" single-player games, you should also try Portal (1+2)... I had so much fun with the innovative gameplay, I kinda got addicted to it. I've got Portal 1 as a gift due to the Orange Box, so if you're interested in it, just PM me

I'm thinking about picking up Tropico 4. Is it a decent city builder? Should I get any of the DLCs?

Just bought the game!

Hey guys, was the early access to Dota 2 for sale? If so, how much or what % discount?

Thanks. Hopefully they have it on sale again in the next 37 hours lol. Don't want to pay $22 for it even tho its 25% off.

I grabbed it and a couple xpacks for $8.50 total I think a couple days ago on flash sale. 9 hours in already and I love it. Not repetitive yet, so I've already got my money's worth and am looking forward to putting in a lot more time. I wasn't sure if I'd like campaign at all but I'm liking it a lot actually.
I also want to pick up anno 2070 but the price is just a bit too high when I can get so many good games that will last me a while for so much cheaper.
Now if I can convince myself to spend another $20 on civ 5 and xpack after I already passed it up for a bit cheaper and passed up anno 2070 for $20...

Are you buying it for the items or because you want a key? If you need the latter I have quite a few lying around feel free to PM me for one. Only reason to buy the dota 2 from the store is for the items.

I actually have dead space 2 from a previous sale, I need to give it a go, I played only maybe an hour and was already scared to shit at some parts.
I beat HL1 a long time ago because I used to play HL religiously. I was on a pro team (long ago 2001-2003) for Team Fortress Classic a HL1 mod and used to attend CPL etc. Im ashamed to say even having owned hl2 since release I never finished it. I have the orange box as well with all the episodes and never played them. Back when they were released my PC wasn't good enough and I never looked back, perhaps I should! I've beat both portals already though but thanks for the very generous offer, very kind of you.

I played Tropico and had a blast. I got lazier nowadays so I just play other games, but the game is really cool because you can tackle same scenario differently - sometimes it is about similar things, but you can go for wood industry instead of sugar industry. The humour is nice too. Anyway, havent played the dlc and did not hear much besides overall "gives more stuff."

i've always wanted to try Borderlands 2. Got it during the 50% sale and now im addicted. man its so fun haha

Edit: Okay so I figured out that the game of the year edition is the Civ 5 with all the extra content. And the God & Kings version is the expansion of the Civ 5 game. So I guess I guess Ill just buy Game of the year edition and God & Kings after?
Hm, I bought the Game of the year edition + the Gods and Kings expansion. Is it supposed to download as 1 game?
|
gods and kings is classified as DLC, so it launches with the normal game.
it makes sense for steam to do that because it really makes clear that it needs the original game to play and it also stops cluttering the library.
i have dota keys, too. i dont even bother to try to gift them anymore, they keep multiplying.
|
Why would you pay for Dota2? It should be free, and if someone wants to play, I alone have 4-5 keys to gift.
|
If anyone was waiting for Fallout New Vegas to go on sale on Steam, GamersGate has it for $5.
|
On January 04 2013 18:10 gTank wrote: Why would you pay for Dota2? It should be free, and if someone wants to play, I alone have 4-5 keys to gift. The only reason is the item set. At -75% the price you pay is way lower than what it costs in the store. I don't really care for items, but some other people maybe do.

it doesn't show as $5 for me.. $12.50 AUD (not ultimate). regional thing?
i'm not lured, especially given how retarded gamersgate are, they would have to produce something special.
