Well TL it's almost finals week here, and it's just about time for me to talk about my 1st semester as a senior and the things I'm thinking about right now. I need some guidance, I'll have a funny blog and probably some other stuff coming up, and I'm sorry for not doing the regular blog last Friday. With that bunch of ands down, this blog is sincerely about my feelings as a senior. This is going to be shorter than usual since this week has exhausted me.
Seniors Life
Senior life right now isn't terrible, sure in the IB everything is fucking bad, but life needs improving for me. Right now a couple things are going through my mind: the first is how I'm going to get by right now, the second is my girlfriend, and the third is how I feel. In truth, all of these things are semi-crushing and the fact that they are occuring all at once just kind of sucks.

I won't lie, being a senior in highschool is awesome compared to being a junior. It isn't better because the workload is better, in fact for me it is worse than junior year, but just because I'm allowed to not give a fuck after this semester. It is my fucking god given right to not give two shits after this semester is over. I've been out of it for a while, and I don't just mean that like I don't care, I mean I've just had a real dearth of fucks given for highschool. I should be honest here and say that school has, honestly speaking, killed me. The only reason I get trudge out of bed in the morning and go to school is to finish it up so I can go to college and see my girlfriend. Being a senior, allow me to romanticize this a bit, is pretty much like being one of the knights in Beowulf that run away from the Dragon at the end. We were corageous when we fought Grendel, Grendel's mom, and all the other atrocities out there, but now we are pretty much glorified slackers.

College Life?
[I am applying to a lot of great colleges, but I doubt I'm going to get into my top choices at all. Hey, that's life I guess, but I don't even know if I want to goto my top choices anymore. Hell I might just want to stay in my home town with my girlfriend since it has pretty much been decided that we are going to be together forever. Don't take that part as me being a sarcastic ass, I love this girl and at this point she seems like has pretty much taken over my life and is the one for me, but her being SOOOO important to me has really made choosing colleges hard. In general my life has gone from me wanting to get the fuck out of Memphis to me being afraid of losing what I have in my girlfriend while trying to get some fantasy world of the college Pastoral.
FUCK FUCK FUCK What highschool's been
I have been screwed over so many times by school and that isn't even counting people playing politics all over me when it is just one on one, I just don't fucking care anymore. I have been screwed over by my old school, in fact I have been screwed over so much by that school and its community that a crack squad of old friends and a singular rabbi have been the only thing keeping me from verbally blowing the place up. That place has done everything from "Forgetting" to send my transcript, to changing names of pre-highschool highschool level classes, to slandering me in community media (most commonly the community newspaper). My current school has denied me entrance into the National Honor Society (which doesn't mean jack-shit in general as I've come to find out), to making me test out of Algebra I, which I hadn't taken in a solid year and a half at that point, on a test made for kids that had taken the Algebra I course at my current highschool. Even more so was the favortism and Southern Politicing that gets played around Lausanne. It got so bad that I was told I wasn't allowed into Nat'l Honor Society because I was too negative, which I'm sure all kids would be if they were attacked by their religion, attacked by new kids at a new school, and generally adjusting to new environments while trying to evolve to fit the new environment. All in all, my school experience is much worse than most people who take courses similar to me.
That is pretty much it TL, I'll give a much larger re-cap of highschool later on, but this has been me for the first semester of senior year. Life sucks, then you die amirite? Sorry for being so down on my luck, it has just been a really rough time for me right now. Especially since I'm so afraid for college.

Lol this bad attitude makes teaching seniors (especially in courses with state finals and the like) suck.
If I were you I would be absolutely sure that your college isn't going to take a look at your second semester grades.... but if you go out of your way to inquire about that, it might seem a bit suspicious XD
I wish there were studies on what the affect of allowing yourself to have a 'not give a fuck' attitude in spring of senior year of highschool was on success in college.
I took senior year seriously (possibly more than my other high school years) and feel like I benefited a lot from it as a prospective college student. There is more to school than the grades on your transcript.
On the other hand, if you slack a little your last few months everyone will understand. If you always get A's in physical education, and then senior year you got a B you won't get denied entrance to college haha

hehe I had the I don't give a fuck attitude all of high school xD. Didn't effect me because going into IT doesn't require college like a lot of other professions, they care more about experience then grades which is nice. I didn't know that some professions actually care what grades you got in college and take that into consideration on whether to hire you or not which surprised me.
In general high school was easy peasy OP enjoy it college does get quiet a bit harder (assuming you are going to college)>

Dude. You're in IB. Unless you really don't care about the IB exams, you are going to have to give two shits after this semester is over. On top of that, you dont want to risk being rescinded.
Trust me. I was a senior last year in IB. Shit's terrible.

Im in physics SL, its harder than the University of Memphis physics major. UofM isn't hard, but this course is ridiculous. Also I am taking it seriously, but since my school had a years worth of seniors fail the IB, so they've made it extra hard on us. Also the fact is that the grades I have that are the highest are the classes that make it almost impossible to get an A, and the lower ones are the classes that are the hardest for me. It is ridiculous. Also I care about my grades, and I'm not going to dip out. Also to Micronesia, we are actually still trying, it is just that the IB at my school is so trying with some of the teachers that I'm just reacting negatively to it.

My highschool experience is most likely going to be significantly easier than my college experience no matter where I go, I'm pretty much taking general college education classes in highschool from the IB 5 days a week for 8 hours a day compared to 2 classes a day 4 days a week. College is going to be a fukin breeze.

I'm currently in the shits for my present exams, the third series of which I've had to take in College.
I did IB, which is why I bothered to read your entire post, making sure there wasn't anything I missed.
Think of it like this. You see that picture with the really cute kitty, and the stern cat. Call them 'B' and 'C'. Now imagine 'A' is an ugly and ill-groomed cat. You're not B yet, but you're not C either. A is you now, C is you in 4 months, B is you directly after that period. That's what the IB's like. As one TLer to another, ditto BW, IB is hard shit son, so please do it right.
Learn to play and kick back, but also learn to take your work seriously. Learn to stand up to though circumstances, commit, work through them, and win. That means completing your internal assesments, EE, and labs on time, starting now. That means not letting your studies go on the back foot while you waste your precious time distracted on stupid things.
Elucidate your priorities, weigh them up, and do what it takes. I made Terran C- - I didn't make my first choice college. But going to my first choice college would have sucked balls compared to the one I'm currently in. I learned at the end of the day, know where you're going, know how to get there and work at it. But don't stress more than is necessary, because if you're diligent, things will work out. IB Feb-March was the worst time of my life, not gonna lie, but you need to be reminded and reminded again that thing will and do get better, so have hope!
EDIT: About difficulty of your courses, its true, they are rigorous and actually make you work hard for IB. I fuckin hated it at the time, much like a child hates discipline. Because looking back at it, for wanting to be a scientist, I realize my IB HL Math Chem Phys wasn't hard enough. You've gotta take it man, trust me, it'll make you much stronger (than those around you). I could have slacked off, gone to a less demanding high-school, taken an easier program. But that wouldn't have passed me through the refining fire of a truly difficult task, from which you learn how to stand up when work, life, and circumstances knock you down.
So don't worry about 'learning more' than other people around you. What are you at school for, why do you want to go to college? To grow, and to learn, and IB gives you bucketloads of opportunities for both. Because I did well enough on my courses, and IB is recognized as being properly hard, I was allowed to skip an entire year of college. Yeah. My future, more possibilities, more freedom, an entire year sooner ... because I worked hard, and that was duly granted to my credit. So tuck in, enjoy, have fun, it'll force you to grow up so take it, it's worth it.

I have good grades, especially since my best classes will absolutely not give A's literally, I'm not kidding it has been a war to get an A in IB History of the Americas HL, and English HL, the latter because my teacher is both senile and acts like a child when he does not get his way. Math is taught by a lady who cannot even do the math, so how can she teach it? It is hell. I'll make it through though and get into a great college, but I think nath is right, a great girl is worth more than a great college.

I also had the dilemma with girlfriend versus getting out of my town. I ultimately choose to go to college away from her and we broke up soon after that. It sucked for a little bit but I'm happy with my decision because it opened me up to both personal and professional opportunities. I won't give you any advice on which way to go because obviously you know your situation best.
BTW, I also hardcore tanked my 2nd semester senior year - went from pretty much all A's to like C's and D's. I'm sure my teachers hated me that semester but I didn't care and had no real impact on my college performance.

See you would think that, but our SL physics class is the HL class minus some chapters rather than what it regularly is, which is a completely different class tailored differently. Now, the reason why it is hard on me is because I've learned in the American system for my entire life, and the IB/Western European way of educating is far different and stressess different things all together. That being said, English is EZPZ if it weren't for my senile teacher who can't remember what books he has taught us or that Rabbit Run is not actually about furry bunnies. History is hard because to get an A you have to be perfect in the class, literally anything less than the best will get you a B or a C. I have an A right now because it is my best subject area, but basically my school has made the courses extra hard to make up for the failure that was the previous senior year IB student who gave up halfway through senior year. They have made the courses extra hard in order to make sure that we excel. Fortunately enough, I'm leaving before they really amp the courses up because if our class does poorly I would hate to be the Junior class right now.

Major is definitely a hyperbole when considering the vast majority of colleges, the ones that are very popular in the south however, it's less of a stretch unfortunately. If one was to take the general education courses at the university in my own town, the general physics courses are easier, not only that the major itself isn't exceptionally challenging. That university is definitely the exception, and not the rule though.

Obviously I am not qualified to talk about it, so I'm going to drop it. What I will say is that the physics majors that failed tried to tutor me for my IB stuff just didn't get it. They just kind of didn't get it. Then again I won't say that makes it harder, I should probably say that some physics majors are better than others at comprehending different notation.

In terms of second semester, I think one of the keys to my relative success in first quarter has been caring a lot about second semester. Only semester in HS after freshman year I got all As.
Now if only I tried that hard earlier.
