Ahoy fellow TL'er i need some more brains to give my idea more momentum.
Whats going on here? Chemistry was leading my way since my professional education. Now the time has come to show it to the world, more or less. At this moment, my room-decoration is quite low: - TL-Logo Poster - Periodic Tablet of Elements - Sumo-Wrestler Paperfigure
The roomsize is like 15m², so there is lots of empty wall-area left. And because most of the walls are walls on the outside, its impossible to put pictures on the wall. Good posters, i dont have them, except the TL-one and the PTE.
Thats my plan the color of the walls could be describes as terracotta + Show Spoiler [close to this color] +] Now the awesome part starts. I want to draw organic molecules to my walls!! So far my plan is got get a picture of the molecules (interwebz) and use a beamer to upscale them and get them on my wall. Than i draw the outlines with pencil or sth and finish it with black paint.
How can TL help me? well, i need some more suggestions for molecules. I already have 10 of them, but im not sure if i want to use all of them, yet. What do i have so far: - Capsaicin - Caffeine - Ascorbic Acid - Vitamin D2 - LHRH (bad picture, got a better one) - Folic Acid - Adrenaline - Vitamin B6 - Vitamin E - Vanilin
Things i dont want on my walls: - Drugs - Pesticides - Chemical Weapons
Any other suggestions are welcome, i have no requierements except the short list above. Also if someone has done sth like this, some hints from experts would be nice. If requested i can make a schematic plan of my room and show which areas are free and their estimated size. maybe that will help to arrenge them in a better way. also im drawing them on big paper (i gues A0) and will arrenge them in my room already. maybe i can take some pic of that too, if needed.
So, let the brainstorm begin. and thanks in advance for any feedbacks

Gold? Neon lights for Neon :D
|
If I visited some guy who had molecules painted on the walls of his room and they weren't drugs or napalm, I'd be really confused.
Your project is confusing me.

Nice. Get some neurotransmitters on there! Dopamine, serotonin, (nor)epinephrine, GABA, acetylcholine, etc.
Also, reservatrol and theobromine should go near the capsaicin.

Gold an Neon are Elements, no molecules ^^ if i would draw them on my wall it would be "Au" (Gold) and "Ne" (Neon) not that decorative i would say ( + i dont have the money to make real Gold-Paintings :D )

Your project is confusing me. dont think about it as chemistry, basicly its just a painting a the wall. if they look like some chemical stuff, its just a side-effect.
And i gues when you visit some1 who has stuff like PCP or Napalm as a painting on his wall, your confusion will be even bigger and i bet you will have the urgent need to look for the closest exit.

post pictures when done, id like to see how this turns out. the double-helix is probably overdone a lot but i would put DNA somewhere.

You are aware caffeine is a drug, right?
And I'm disappointed about your PoV on chemical weapons

that one is not a drug
you should replace caffeine with it

Adrenaline is a drug too, right? And every neurotransmitter would be a drug, or am I mistaken?

Maybe he means synthetic drugs? Or chemicals not naturally produced by the human body?
another cool nondrug

almost all chemicals can be drugs. its just a matter of dose and time. and its my room, so my rules. and when there will be someone in my room who knows the molecules he might ask "hey dude, why do you have Agent Orange, PCP, DDT, PCDF, Napalm and Cyclon B on your wall?" What should i answer? "Because a guy on TL suggested them to me"? not really a convincing argument.

"Because they look cool" is a pretty good argument

well the decorational-effect isnt that bad. but as already mentioned, im not keen to go into a "chemical weapon / drug on my wall"-discussion with my visitors. so i exclude them preemptivly. i know some of the stuff looks realy nice because of their symmetricl structures etc pp but atm im not convinced to use them.

some new ideas have been brought up recently. - dont make molecules take some shapes (like triangle, circle, square etc) and fill them with fantasy-patterns and color shifts.
pro: isnt too specific like the molecules (perhaps) i can dodge the paintjob when i have to leave the appartement
cons: no molecules nerd-level drops to: average nerd will take more time and experients to finde the best shape, size and colors.
any new thoughts about that?

Why don't you make an Amino-Acid? And then draw a ? for the differential part of it.
Without Aminoacids no proteins and life.
|
Yeah, get some amino acids rolling. Also i'm a bit worried you're mostly going to use organic molecules : maybe metallic ions floating around could add a little bit of variety in the elements used, as well as fill empty spaces.
I'd like to suggest crystals, but i'm not knowledgeable enough to point out a particularly nice/interesting one.
Good luck ! Also i wanna see how it goes, because i'm totally stealing this idea

im sory folks, due to some recent urgent changes in RL i cant continue this project
maybe some of you got inspired now and try this on their own, if so please keep me updated
