Holy crap.... that video was awesome. I have a totally different look at space exploration because of that video. What an excellent speech about why space exploration is important to humanity.
I see all these big arguments and stuff going on, so I'll leave my comment short and simple. I think this is amazing. Space has always been an interest to me, and having an event like this is awesome to witness.
As to the... why Mars? I like a line from West Wing: "'Cause it's next. 'Cause we came out of the cave, and we looked over the hill and we saw fire; and we crossed the ocean and we pioneered the west, and we took to the sky. The history of man is hung on a timeline of exploration and this is what's next. "

Unless I'm mistaken none of the Apollo mission did any serious drilling to see what kinds of minerals might be hiding under the surface.
Of course I might be under estimating all those fancy cameras owned by our government.
Another great step towards colonization. I'm looking forward to putting more people into space, and this rover will help a lot in getting them there and keeping them there.

I wouldn't be surprised if we found some form of life (bacterial, etc) on mars but NASA is too afraid to say anything because it would inherently destroy each and every religion, which are some of the largest money-making corporations on this planet.
Nothing is more exciting than witnesing a great scientific achievements. I wish more people appreciated science and mathematics and all insanely hard work of incredibly talented people who made all those discoveries that lead us to the modern society of today.
Hope the mission turns to be super successful so NASA gets more funding in the future.

If they find any form of life they'd scream in joy and tell the entire world, if for no other reason than it would probably increase the spending NASA has for future Mars missions by an immense amount, and maybe reignite the excitement the world use to have for space.

You greatly underestimate religions if you actually think that evidence of bacteria would destroy them. Religions deal in Souls not DNA. Not to derail the thread but as a Right-wing Christian even little green men wouldn't ruin my conviction.
Science and God are very much so compatible, Just because of diverging interpretations of origins exist doesn't mean they are opposites.
