That just really sucks, considering EC continues to change their vision. It just sounds like they need to straighten up and find out what they want to get out of from their teams.
Good luck des/artist/slog/scarlett..

It sounds like they signed a bunch of players while saying that they are going to open a teamhouse in Korea, then kept flipping back and forth for a while until deciding "oh nvm, we're just gonna 'focus' on Europe instead". That, and like Desrow said, the players were not comfortable with EC's facepalming PR disasters.

Lets say you get a job
Then you're not happy with the job for x reason, where x is not written anywhere specifically in your contract
Leaving the job because of something that isn't stipulated in a contractual agreement = not a good thing.
If you translate that to real world terms it would be akin to a jobhopper.

Well I guess this is where the root of our differing opinions is. I think the situation you describe is also ok. The company lying to you about their intentions to try and get you to take a job seems to me like a worse thing than leaving because it doesn't come through. You have to understand that starcraft players are skilled workers, and have leverage with their employer. Employers are in competition for the limited pool of employees, and if the contracts allow them to opt out, its up to the employers to keep their employees happy.

if you translate your vision of the real world to reality, it makes new.
I am sorry to be blunt but what you have just said is one of the most ridiculous thing that has been typed in a video game forum.
Why do you think scarlett signed to them? Korea teamhouse, once EC said that it isnt happening, she and all the other players(as said by desrow this was a group decision) decided and had all the rights to leave.

That isn't an absolute.
Things come up. Sometimes you have to leave because of something not in a contractual agreement. People have different expectations and sometimes things just don't work out. It happens in the real world and neither side are dicks for it.

There is no contract. (at least for dRow)
Other than that, It seems a really dick move to promise something and don't have a good excuse for not fulfilling it. Plus all the embarassment with the PR, doesn't sound like a company I would like to work for!

Honestly, if you translate this situation into "real world terms" (where are we, the Matrix?), it's akin to Eclypsia being a terrible employer. The players are at no fault here.

Spoken like a true litigilist.
Pretty sure I've had more experience working than you, but it's ok. Words like company loyalty and personal ownership/responsbility towards your work tends to get lost under the swath of 'amg lawsuet inc'
If one joins a team on the expectation that a teamhouse would open somewhere down the road it's COMMON SENSE that one does NOT join said team until there is concrete proof.

Company loyalty and responsibility to a business relationship is not more important than personal happiness. You are in a mutually beneficial arrangement. If it stops being beneficial for the employer, they'll end the relationship fast. You are no more obligated than they are to the agreement.

Just like its COMMON SENSE that if you don't want your players to leave you sign contracts with them that say they can't for a certain period of time?
I'm starting to have a hard time believing these are your sincere opinions. And from what I can tell "litigilist" isn't even a word. Perhaps me and the others discussing this have given you the benefit of the doubt for too long.

actually it's a very good thing. Lets say for example a job asks you to work for them over their competitor and they promise you great things, whether written, verbal or implied promises. If your employer reneges on those promises, I don't think you'd be a very happy camper. When it's not something as important as having a job or not having a job. It's a matter of being on a team with empty promises or having no team for the time being. These players made a very wise decision and clearly were communicating the same thoughts and all on the same page about how they felt they were being treated.

Hope the players find new teams soon!
