Pretty much the title. I'm an incoming freshman at UCB. Now I'm doing the housing app and while it would be a novel experience to play random, I don't want to risk landing zerg (and I'm actually terrible at zerg).
Any current or incoming Cal students without a roommate or housing plans want to room together? A bit about myself:
-> Undecided Engineering major, probably eecs -> Want to get a room in foothill (preferably), otherwise maybe one of the units. My friend lives in clark kerr and he says the walk is pretty killer. -> Pretty much your average Chinese kid - speaks chinese, plays SC2&a bit of LoL, math&science hardcore, can make asian food pretty well, reads TL and reddit. -> I can't stay up past 11 pm very well ): Like... midnight is pushing it. I don't know if this will change in college though.
I figured I might as well post this here. I mean, it's TL. Hahaha...

Someone should do this. Judging from OP's name, no danger of being sexiled :D
Seriously though, I think it would have been cool to room with someone who had some similar interests to me freshman year. My first roommate and I had nothing in common.

I wish I were going anytime soon. I just started building up community college credits now that I've decided to go back to college after skipping out of high school and I'll probably go to berkeley :<. It hadn't really occurred to me TL might be a good place to find another nerd to room with, assuming I want to dorm there instead of taking the long commute.

Hey what's up man,
I recommend that you try to room with someone completely random, so that you don't end up spending all of your time playing games. You should take the opportunity to meet new people, have new expiriences, develop new interests, etc. Frankly, I wouldn't even touch my computer for the first 4-5 weeks here becuase there's so many things to do. Maybe after then when you're tired of all that, then you can fall back to playing games. On top of that, I highly recommend you do not dorm at Foothill as an engineer. It's boring as fuck and far from everything: I recommend you stay in the Units. That being said, I hope you have a great 4 years here! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, etc.
Go Bears! Ray
By the way, I'm a MechE going into my sophomore year. Also that 11pm thing has seriously got to be a joke.

Solid decision coming to Berkeley :D I'm a sophomore doubling in CS and MCB I won't comment on roommates, because I roomed with my best friend of 7 years, so that wasn't a big deal. But most people - if they go random - are pretty good friends with their roommates and if not - on cordial terms. Rarely do they have a major problem. And yeah, opening few weeks, get out, make friends with your dorm mates and don't stay in your room playing sc2. So much to do and your RA's should be organizing stuff for you. Enjoy freshman year to the max - its easily so much fun. As far as picking Foothill - ehh. I lived in Unit 3 and I loved it. Sorta far from my classes but it was in the middle of everything else. I could step out at 2 am and get a meal in like 3 min. It was pretty convenient. As long as you don't get Bowles Anyway gl w/ finding a roommate but don't stress. You might as well go random. And if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. And one way or the other, you'll start staying up past midnight. I guarantee it.
Go Bears!

If this doesn't pan out then don't sweat it. I was a freshman honor's RA for three years and I can definitely tell you that most roommates get along just fine. If you can, apply for special interest housing because the community is half-built before you even arrive!
As for your 11pm thing, I was the same way in high school. There's always something going on in the halls, so you may find yourself with less sleep for a while.
You don't even need to be friends with your roommate - just make sure you communicate and don't let problems sit around.

I probably will~ I mean, if I meet someone off TL, that might as well be close to random. I just wanted to see if anyone was interested. And thanks for the advice - I'll definitely explore around instead of laddering all day.
And yeah, I'm serious about the 11pm thing. I'm aiming for midnight by the time I'm in college :X

Hey man, I'm CSL coordinator at Berkeley, you should join the FB group!
http://www.facebook.com/groups/136458873116475/
Hope to meet you soon! (We'll be at Cal Day if you're going to be there)
--------
I got placed in Bowles, and while it's great for convenient access to engineering buildings for your major, it's not a great place to live compared to the Units. I feel like I missed out a lot by being in Bowles. Stupid lottery, Bowles wasn't even one of my choices It's not terrible but I definitely recommend choosing the units.

My first roommate at Cal built a physical wall down the middle of our room, told me he didn't like people and didn't have any friends.
I wish you better luck.
