Just got the new Dragonforce album, felt like making a thread about it since searching gave me an old 2008 thread with people hating on them and didn't want to bump that.
I love Dragonforce. I don't go to concerts so I don't give a damn if they are "Studioforce". They make enjoyable music, with good guitar, good singing and overall a happy vibe.
This album came out today, and it's their first one with a new singer. I think it's a success overall, I liked all of the songs except 1 (Cry Thunder) and the voice didn't feel off (it was a bit weird for the first song but I got over it fast).
I thought the song names were pretty funny : -Wings of Liberty -Heart of the Storm
Are they Starcraft fans? Weird stuff
Oh yeah and they have a couple of acoustic songs on this one (extras) that I liked. One that's a pretty slow instrumental songs but has a good feel to it and another that's one of their songs in acoustic instead.
Anyway, very recommended if you liked their other albums. I don't have a favorite amongst their 5 albums so I can't compare too much in terms of quality but, for me at least, it has the same feel I wanted and have never been able to find from other bands (I've gotten hundreds of power metal bands and nothing similar, even if people claim it is, it never is).
Here's an extra, 331ERock's DBZ Meets Metal song where he covers Dragonforce in the middle while making it look really easy. I'm not sure if he actually played the song (sounds pretty much exactly like the album version) but he does play the rest anyway. Check it out :
Thoughts on their new album from people who enjoy their music? Dislike the new singer or didn't mind?

No idea if hes a faker or not, but that video doesn't look like hes faking at all.

zero pick attack and he doesn't even try to hide that it sounds like a keyboard, i burst out laughing when the fast part started. the dbz/dragonforce thing doesn't sound like he copypasted the original track, but if he's willing to post something that obvious then i wouldn't be surprised if he simply just got a more realistic guitar synth.
The reason why people hate on Dragonforce is that when they first got big (when "Through the Fire and the Flames" came out), everyone jumped on them for their speed, technicality, and camp. The issue is, they hardly pushed the envelope in any of those three categories, AND, worst of all, all of their songs sounded the fucking same.
They're not a terrible band, I'll admit. They're ok every once in a while so they stay at least somewhat refreshing. The huge bandwagon of hate really manifested as a knee-jerk reaction to how popular they got for no real reason. There's a TON of campy, fast, and technical power metal out there, many of which probably deserve Dragonforce level success more than they do.
They just used to be very frequently overrated as hell is all.
I listen to Dragonforce while playing SC2 quite often due to the sheer speed and length of the songs. Glad to see they have new stuff. Now I have to go check it out :D

Not terrible is a good way to describe them, and everything sounding the same too

I think it's really funny they have songs called Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm :D
I hate that when ever someone states their opinion on a topic, and someone else has a contrasting opinion, they just say haters gonna hate, like the other person is doing something wrong be disliking it...
Meh, I've been a dragonforce fan for quite a while and this new album just doesn't sound good to me. Too many vocals that just sound weird and out of place. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals in their other albums but they weren't bad. In this one it just doesn't sound like his voice fits with the rest of it. The guitar however is as good as ever.
I was not a very big fan of their previous works. Don't get met wrong I still liked them however most of their songs sounded very very similar. However this album has really impressive we got a bit more variety and it seems they toned down the speed a little and instead focusing on just making a really good album.
I saw Dragonforce in concert in 2008 at Mayhem Fest. They were great live, I didn't know they were known for poor performances. They were very engaging with the audience, the two guitar players were EXTREMELY good and entertaining. The singer was running through the crowd in this massive amphitheater...
Anyways, I really liked their old singer guess I'll have to give the new album a listen and see how it goes.
I also saw them at mayhem fest 2008 (Houston), I wasn't into them before then, but damn they put on an amazing show, definitely did not suck live. I actually saw them a few months later on their own tour, which was also really good. I had no idea this album was coming, I'll enjoy listening to this tomorrow on campus :D.
EDIT: Holy shit an acoustic song thats new for dragonforce lol
