I'm getting quite sick of seeing an infinite amount of the spelling of esports. So far I've seen esports Esports eSports e-Sports ESPORTS ESports E-sports e-sports
This is getting quite silly. Can we please find one way of saying it and keep it? esports seems to be the proper one because its actually grammatically correct. But we need to find a standard, as seeing 10 in common usage gets quite annoying.

So many different spellings of eSports is ruining ESPORTS.
I guess I'll give a serious answer. I don't think it matters, it might annoy certain people but the fact is there isn't a golden standard because it's still sort of a vague concept. Wait for it to grow and get more hashed before expecting a common, universal spelling.

It's spelled all the same...
What's the problem?

ESPORTS IS BEST ESPORTS
Why does ESPORTS get underlined in red, who wrote this fucking dictionary?

Personally, I prefer "eSports." Grammatically for professional publications, most go with "e-sports" unless starting a sentence. There are the odd ones that use "eSports," but it's hit or miss and I've never really seen anyone use the rest of the ones you put in here.

I think the OP is the same guy that called in at the end of the last Live on Three and was very upset that djWHEAT was wearing jeans at MLG.
Those fucking kids and their dubstep. Jesus christ what is the world coming to.

This blog is just meta-esports grammarcrafting.

Personally, I prefer eSports, however, e-sports would probably be the most 'correct.' I just like the way 'eSports' looks, as opposed to having a lot of capitol letters. It makes it look like an acronym if everything is in caps. Also, the name could act similarly to the way a lot of the apple products title themselves, iPods, iPads, iHome, etc. Yes, those are name brand products and eSports is more of a category, but the word could be approached the same way within publications.

Even more important than that is the pronunciation. The correct way being "eh-sports" of course.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email
This has a good listing of the various spellings of email, and how they are/were used. Esports is basically the same thing, to distinguish it from regular sports, as email from regular mail...
that being said, I've always liked eSports. I don't know why, it looks like a cool brand name or something. The only variance would be if, it is at the beginning of a sentence, I would do Esports. So the capitalization isn't fuxord.
All caps does have a pretty awesome look to it though.

Haha, I think I've used like half of those spellings for it. I prefer just leaving it as esports or Esports, but it doesn't really matter. Esports is awesome, and so is every way you can spell it :D

I use e-Sports because it is what seems to be the official denomination, and also used by KeSPA.
|
E-Sports should be the official nomenclature.
