Ok, this is something that has always bothered me. Why the hell does everyone call it "larva inject?" You know what I'm talking about. That ability queens have. The one called "spawn larva." Even TLPD talks about "injecting" larva:
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Spawn_Larva
Why? It isn't faster to say, in fact it is an extra syllable. Is it "inject" in another language (korean maybe)? As far as I can remember, this started back in the beta (I wanna say HD or Husky called it this, and it just took off, but I could be wrong). I dunno why this bothers me, but it does. It just makes no sense to call it "inject." Is it the sound it makes? Is that an "injection" sound to some people? Is it easier to make it into a verb form? You could still say "hitting all his larva spawns" instead of "hitting all his larva injects." I doesn't make sense. What the hell is going on here?
This should stop, but I know it won't. It's pretty dumb when you think about it.

You are playing a game where the egg stage comes after the larval stage. Does it really matter what it's called?

OP, you are right, at least Blizzard seems to use "spawn" for all that - for larvae, for creep tumors etc.

Oh shit, they're not eggs in SC2? I don't know what is real anymore.
Still calling them eggs, though.

Yea...I guess it makes sense cocoons come after larva...but still. Its an egg.
|
Only the infested terrans come from an egg now, yeah.
I guess Blizzard have read sarcastic comments about the "Zerg egg" after larva in SC1/BW and decided to edit it.
Anyway, I remember when casters started saying inject, not sure who was first, but distinctly remember at least one time when I thought "Inject? ... Well, okay.", and soon after it became standard community jargon. Casters have lots of these semi-weird or incorrect phrases that we've just gotten used to. I thank you for noticing such detail though.

Well it makes sense because the queen's action involved in spawning larva is an "injection" into a hatchery, right? The larva doesn't spawn until the cooldown on the hatch is completed.
|
Just like how the term Ewok was never mentioned in return of the Jedi, yet that's what everyone refers them too.
|
The side bar kind of made me chuckle
Larva inject... HardlyNever
I think it's sort of a thingy that somehow managed to infect people's vocab...like Colossus Den or Ultra Bay.

To me it looks like the queen injects the hatchery. After the injection the hatchery will spawn larvae.

The animation looks like the Queen spews something from its mouth into the hatchery, not sure if injection describes it well.

you honestly just blew my mind. hahaha

As we all know when the mommy queen loves the daddy hatchery very much she injects her love into the hatchery (because females are really males and all that) and thats how baby larvae are born. And son that is why we call it injecting a hatchery

well when you think about it logically, what you are saying is that the ability spawn larvae is shorter than larvae inject. when you use it in context inject makes more sense.
for example :
'make sure you always inject your hatches' is better than 'make sure you always use spawn larvae on your hatches'
also spawn larvae is the name of an ability. you dont hear people saying 'stim pack your marines before you engage' because its just sounds dumb. another thing you should remember is how the word spawn is used in the game. spawn could mean start location, and a whole lot of other things to do with zerg. spawning units, spawning buildings etc. inject has one meaning and that makes communicating that meaning a lot easier especially for casters.
your rant is pretty petty.

Ahahahaha
Larva injects are just a colloquialism that players use, much like the other ones already listed (eggs, colossus den, etc.). Sometimes they help explain the context of the particular situation.

That's the true reason for such term to take off - it's unique, yes. However, we just accepted the random term that most likely Husky or HD first came up with on a whim, and the lore guys in Blizzard probably have no idea what inject in Starcraft 2 is supposed to mean.
I think we should ask them - and this is likely to become clearer in HotS, because it's the zerg campaign.
