Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Remember, when making comments/claims to provide proper evidence, facts etc. Arguments based on incorrect assumptions, facts and straw men, will be dealt with swiftly. If in doubt, PM a mod or ask IRC. Do NOT spread misinformation, when in doubt, check your sources. In short, be smart. Reddit made orb spew vitriol because he lost a game on ladder? Huh.

I'm very glad Orb is gone, I never want to see him on my TV screen ever again. He is a bad person and he should even be banned from Battle net for what he did. No second chance, boy.

All the people saying Idra uses "faggot" more than anyone else, could you guys make a youtube video of it or compilation screenshot or something?

Maybe people will finally learn that the internet is not the excuse to be a douchebag, even tho you're safely at home behind your screen. Sometimes being a douche will have consquences. After today i bet a lot of would-be pro's are watching their language a bit more.. Replays are saved, vods are made. If you get attention on the internet, you better handle it properly or it will forever stick.
The fact that up and coming pro's will watch their language a bit more is probably the best possible outcome of the entire incident.
This isn't just ESPORTS, it's life on the internet and social media whenever you're trying to keep a job.

As someone with autism, that wasn't very nice.

Good reaction, props for to EG for making a decision like this

Lets kick idrA off for calling people faggots in games and lets also kick off Huk for saying nigga on Twitter.
I felt bad for Katu and I feel even worse for Orb.

Maybe one day people will realize that respect is everything in a business where crowds are involved. Orb's rage needs to be toned down to more socially accepted levels (not gamer socially acceptable). At the same time, I don't think this warranted him losing the contract. This remindes me of that reporter that basically got banished from the industry for a silly, slightly racist news article title. At least there, he was directly representing the business and using it as a medium to spread the statements.
Racism is only still so relevant in America because its such a taboo, highly discussed subject.

He also lied to them. No matter what your job is, if you lie to your boss chances are your ass is gonna get canned.
The thread would have been 15 pages max if Orb had just come out and apologized, but he didn't, and choose to make excuses/try to cover it up.

So will you make one of these topics for IdrA soon enough? I don't think so. He brings money for SC2 community, he is just too important and let's be totally okey with him using all kind of homophobic slurs on his stream while having EG tag.

Definitely the best, most articulate, and most powerful official statement I've read in a long time.
Major props to you, Alex I'm sure Orb will bounce back

Alex Garfield, being manly and doing the right thing since 2002. :D

a couple questions that dont seem to ahve been asked or adressed in teh last few pages
1) does EG plan to bring a different caster into the EG house to do what they planned to ahve Orb do? 2) does EG plan to never affiliate with Orb again or would perhaps for the next EG MCSL or other special event Orb be considered to be cast? 3) do you feel like Orb should be completely shunned by the community forever or do you think what EG has done to him enough of a punishment? 4) if Orb had been more careful in his choice of insult would he still ahve been removed from EG? (like do you completely shun such behaviour from all EG affiliated people or is it jsut he crossed the line using that specific language)

i agree with the decision but i just have one question
has idra seriously never made any similar comments over the years?

Not too shocked people talked to your sponsors after this - Show nested quote +"Jake has said this was not him last night, that he went to bed, that he has a couple of friends who he shared his account with - which obviously he's not supposed to do - and that he woke up to this shit storm.
Now, you all can choose to believe Jake or not. We at EG are all going to believe him, but have told him that if we find out that this is not the case, your story does not flush, and this is your behaviour and you continue to act this way, then you will be very, very quickly removed from our world." After reading this it seemed like you might try (or at least were wishing) to make it seem like baseless complaints and not really investigate it, but after you were contacted by sponsors you understood how real the shit just got. Regardless, I'm glad the way you handled it (even if I personally view it as your hand was forced to deal with it). It's really too bad the way Orb tried to handle this not to mention childish. After reading that statement ... you came to that conclusion. I... what is wrong with you internet -.-;

To be honest, I have a problem with how this situation was handled and the end result. I know racism should take no part in the community, however, I still think not enough time has been passed to see whether or not orb was actually innocent. (we don't know for sure that he was at fault, at least for one of them) Albeit, I do agree with the fact that orb needed to clean up his act, he's still one of the best casters that we have ever had in SC2. I think the thing that bothers me the most is showing that reddit witch-hunts are really starting to work. I feel like after the last two weeks (with the whole Katu debacle and now this). Reddit is becoming far too powerful, everybody makes mistakes, and you can always bet your bottom dollar that reddit will point them out. I admire how Mr. Garfield gave everybody in reddit the benefit of the doubt in saying that they are morally inclined to punish orb for his racism, however, I do not think that is the case. As he said, our community really needs to mature and even though orb/katu are not perfect, they really do contribute a lot to esports, which is often what many overlook when they are being called out. I feel like many of the people do not actually take offense to orb or his racist comments, but more they take offense that he made a fault and everybody jumped on him. But I digress, at least orb's dismissal will prompt him to need to be more careful in the future.

People really have no idea how often opportunities are missed and doors closed without them knowing. Because not only does the internet operate in funny ways, so do people in the real world. It's always best to be your best at all times. Those of us who sometimes allow ourselves to act worse do it at our own risk. The difference in attitude here is what often sets apart people who hit a plateau in life and people who miraculously, seemingly luckily, succeed.

Extremely well-written post, thank you for such a response to the community.

The right decision.
Many Europeans may not "get" this decision, because the N-word is less stigmatized there compared to the US. For instance, it occurs pretty regularly in the TeamLiquid funny pictures thread. (I just assume it's because the Euro sensitivity to that word is very different.)

Yeah, thanks for the post Alex. I feel as you do overall. I think Orb is just a young, dumb, but talented kid who needs to grow up and learn what is or is not appropriate. I doubt he is racist as a whole, but people sometimes like to think that words only have one meaning or only mean what they think they mean. The mature thing would have been to man up, admit it, apologize or defend his position, and grow as a human, but Orb did not do that and that offends me as an intelligent human being before anything else. We are not that stupid Orb.
It is just a hard a situation, but if Joe Buck had typed that to someone else, he would not be allowed to cast the World Series again.
