I'm a third year in what we in Sweden call "Gymnasiet" (Which I guess is Senior High?) and as everyone else, I must do a project. Since I love eSports to death, I figured "Why not do one about that?".
Said and done, I asked my teachers, and surprisingly I got a yes, so I started looking for info about a lot of things, and planned going to events so I could experience the swedish eSport-scene up close. My trip to and working at DreamHack was a result of this.
Needless to say, I decided to focus on StarCraft, and I've got some nice information about it already, but there are still some things I'd love to have. So I ask you, TL blog readers / forum community to help me out.
Here's what I'd like to know:
* Viewer statistics and/or visitor numbers for known tournaments (I.E GSL, NASL, DH, IEM etc) *A little bit of eSport history ( not really SC, more like games early on such as CS, Quake etc. Were there any specific events which sparked the eSport interest?)
Signing out! /Oscar
P.S: If any mod feel that this should be posted in some other category, feel free to move it.

Put some work into your project you can find those numbers by doing searches on TL, Also look up the Thread for the starcraft Bible it has a very good history of Esports.

Starcraft bible? Thanks! The reason why I haven't really searched on TL is because you're supposed to be very picky with sources during this project, but I completely forgot that companies such as GOMtv have accounts who post stuff like that here!

That's actually exactly what I'm doing. My main goal is to see whether eSports have increased in the recent years and if the launch of SCII assisted in this. But it's always good to have some history of the subject as well

don't ask TL to do your research for you

if you email me sir.. I may be able to get you a copy of the movie FRAG, which is all about the history of eSports.

I just finished a project like this as well.. so I may also be able to give you some references.

On February 06 2012 01:32 Xeris wrote: don't ask TL to do your research for you I am by no means asking you to do it. I'll have you know that I've spent quite a good amount of hours looking for information, and I felt that I had a pretty good amount. But since I know TL as a community where lots of hidden gems are, I decided to ask here.

Are you really asking why a student shouldn't ask other people to do his work for him? O_O;;
Hey I'm writing a thesis on Continental Philosophy and its application to modern philosophy, can you do my research for me?
That's wrong on many levels

Sure is pre-Information Age.
If someone has the information he wants and they can give it to him, might as well. Finding information isn't a feat anymore and shouldn't be treated as a chore. Busywork is busywork.

Maybe I'm old fashioned

Hi this might not be that useful but I find it a critcal (and negative) event in eSports
Corruption Scandal over CS team
Of course another well know corruption scandal that happened in pro broodwar involving betting and fixing of matches
As far as scandals go, interest probably increases (just like celebrity scandals) temporarily but the fanbase usually suffers over the long run.
Cheers.

Cute.
This type of threads are bothersome because it breeds laziness. The OP did not bothered to point out what research he has done thus far, what topic he wants to focus on (ESPORTS is not a topic), or what information is missing.
We have a "no homework help" rule for a reason.

I, for one, am really happy about this thread. I'm writing an essay on eSports as well, for my writing GenEd. I'm doing my own research =P but this helped tremendously, and this way, I can better convey my love for eSports, and the extent of its growth during the past few years.
