Update: Oh yeah! To finally conclude this whole debacle, I have some fantastic news! My Science Head of Department heard about my case (told him) and he decided that he would award me ALL 8 marks that will come from peer review. Fuck yes!
Well some of you may have read my blogs on my lack of friends, and my rant on the education system in Singapore.
In the latter, I talked about this project I was assigned.
Recently, I was tasked with a Science project that will make up 50% of my grade this term. The task is to pretend to be 'an active Singaporean who has just obtained [my] undergraduate degree in Nuclear Engineering from UC Berkeley, [I should] have my own views on [ using Nuclear energy in Singapore ] .' I have to back up my argument with proper research findings, expert opinions, documentaries, etc.
Is this too much to ask for from an 'average' 15 year old student? I have no idea what evidence I'am going to use other than from newspaper articles. I will also have to present my argument with ' a letter to a newspaper editor, blog, YouTube video, etc. '
I was supposed to complete this project with 2 classmates (project mates) but turns out they found a different group to work with. The workload would have been fine split between us 3, so I figured that I would be able to cope with the amount of work anyway. But turns out if I don't have partners, the teacher is going to grade me ZERO. FUCK THAT SHIT!
I haven't even managed to come up with any solid, tangible writings at all. Perhaps if I do a very good on my own the teacher would close one eye and let me through, but fucking hell project deadline is in 5 hours and I have no partners to research together because they left me for some other classmate.
This project is going to make up 50% of my Chemistry grade this term and I'm just left alone in the dust.
Fuck classmates or being nice.
If anybody would like to view me struggling with this piece of shit : http://prezi.com/f10zn8uix11q/on-nuclear-energy-in-singapore/

Better ace those other assessments then! Even if u hand it in late you prolly will still get more marks than if u hand in nothing.

Fuck no, if you hand it in late by a day 20% of your overall achievable grade gets shaved off here.
If you hand it in even later than a day past the deadline, 50%.

What the fuck?
What kind of fucked up project is this? Stupidity from the teacher, the school or the grading system? Shouldn't a group of three be ASSIGNED? This is just plain silly, especially with a project with this magnitude, you'd think they'd have some senses to order things properly.

The teacher left us to group together.
Goddamit I really need some help

Explain to me how you only have 5 hours left for a project that is worth 50% of your grade and your friends happen to JUST leave you now before the deadline.

We were supposed to work on it tonight because we were all busy with other things for the entire week, turns out they found a classmate with no group who had already done the majority of the work

Even though you got screwed over and were stupid to not begin working on this earlier, why aren't you working on it now and instead checking teamliquid?

Keeping my mind busy and multi-tasking

You start one day before the deadline.
You don't even seem to be putting in full effort now.
Seems like 3 lazy people of which 1 is going to run into a wall now.
But creating an age appropriate (just 15 years old) presentation about the benfits of nuclear power within 5 hours isn't that hard.

Your friends are douchebags, but it's also partly your fault. Stop looking for sympathy and look for real solutions right now without getting discouraged.
However, since you're 15 I'll give you tips on how to research. Don't look up "Singapore nuclear energy" specifically. Look up nuclear energy first, and then look for ways to tie it into the singaporean energy infrastructure. Try to find ways to tie them together after you've found your information. How would singapore benefit? What does an area need to make nuclear energy a successful source of energy? You're not just gonna be able to copy and paste this shit together; your job is to find connections.

If you do your best and you get penalised not for the content but because you didn't have partners, GO TO A HIGHER AUTHORITY. It's about the class grade and you need help.
|
To the people criticising the teacher, you are off the mark. The work was assigned much earlier and it's the student's responsibility to approach the teacher if suitable partners could not be found.
Anyways, the switching of partners at the drop of the hat seems to be a typical "kiasu" (scared of losing) singaporean thing.

Hm yeah I got screwed like that in university for my Masters. Pretty much same story as you.
Teacher told us to form groups on our own. We formed a pretty decent group of friends, basically people we could trust. Then the lecturer reassigns me to another group, formed by all the people that barely turned up at lectures, and had no idea what was going on.
The project turned out to be a complete disaster. Only 2 out 5 actually did work (including me). One of them didnt have a clue so he was immediately useless, the other plaguerised a book almost word for word, and the other never even turned up in the meetings and handed in his complete shit work, with no references, 2 hours before the FINAL deadline.
We failed miserably. We complained to the tutor, he said there was nothing he could do. The project counted for 50% of our final grade, and we basically just passed the subject, (the other 3 failed it) when it could have been an easy grade. This fucked up my final grade for my Master degree.
What I should have done: after complaining to the tutor, I should have taken the matter further up, to the course leader.

dont take this as me being douche but i honestly dont think you should be blogging in the situation youre in. The best thing you can do right now is accept that you cant rely to much on other people and you should make the best of the time youve got

its only sec 3 mid year, its painful now but in the long run you'll laugh about it focus on the syallabus that matters and top the class for eoy!

Two things that distract me from my work:
#1 Teamliquid #2 Daydreaming about robots.
