FRAY is a multiplayer game developed by french studio Brain Candy.
So i stumbled upon this game while i was lurking the internet and it seems really interesting.
Developpers describe it as a multiplayer turn based tactic game where you have 1:30 min to decide what you want to do with your squad while the other player does the same. Then action phase comes and both sides move at the same time.
You control a 4 men squad which you can choose through 6 different class : Tank, Assault (Heavy armor DPS - Has a on sight shooting stance) Shadow (Stealthy backstabbing class) Support (Technological soldier with turrets and scans) Medic and Sniper. Some classes have auras (absorb x% damage, heal x hp every turn) and the game uses stances (offensive, defensive, neutral, running) which affects caracteristics and running distance aswell as different weapons and equipements (assault rifle, gatling, healing gun, freezing gun, turrets, smoke screens. There are also activable bonuses to refill your ammos for exemple
I think the mind games that will be possible in this game will be quite interesting and i'm really looking forward to the release.
The alpha builds of the game will be available if you pre-order the game which will be available in january for 19 euros.
So what do you guys think
-EDIT- Game Screenshot (this is still alpha build)
I don't think it looks like rainbow six. And the game is made to be competitive. I was talking with the developpers (you can chat with them on the website's chatroom as they are almost always online) and they said they wanted to make the game competitive and cared a lot about balance.
Plus this is turned based which gives you a lot of time to think and mind game your opponent. And i don't see any RPG elements. You mean picking weapons and stuff ?
There hasn't been ANY good TBS squad games since the glory days of X-Com and Jagged Alliance and such. I really hope this studio has at least some form success with this, since this great genre has been completely ignored in recent years.

There is no way you will have as much time to think as you want. There will be a turn timer 100%

Actually new Jagged Alliance looks to be f*cking good.

Ofc but it'll still be slower than a starcraft game when it comes to decision making. Timer has already been announced : it'll be 1 min 30 sec before the action phase.
I never fully got into Frozen Synapse because I played a ton of Laser Squad Nemesis and FS just didn't stand up to it for me. This game could be interesting.

CK2 release has been pushed back to the 14th!
For marketing reasons. Paradox basically telling their customers the company believes they will be busy on the 7th because of other games, but will have free time on the 14th. =P
We have (finally) set a release date for Fray's Pre-order Alpha. So set your calendars to stun to:
February 8th 2012 !
The game will be released on DESURA, and when pre-ordering Fray, you will get one free to share with a friend!
We wanted to work out as many bugs as possible before releasing Fray for you to play, and we are confident that this version is good enough to allow you to enjoy the game as it is (mostly) intended. What can you expect in the Alpha:
- 2 two-player maps - 2 Corporations (Aros and CronaCorp) - 6 Classes (Assault, Sniper, Medic, Support, Tank and Shadow) - Over 20 different Weapons and Equipments - Our appreciation - yay! o// - - A damn good time!
The game will then be updated each week to include new maps, weapons, animations, textures and sounds as dev progresses.
What we would love is player feedback to balance the game the best way possible to make it a great multiplayer game!
So if you want to help us and our team in making Fray a great experience, sign up here and join the fun on February 8th!
I'm double posting here cause i just played my first game of FRAY (which i won)
First of all, the game looks really great. Even though a lot of stuff is missing, the models and textures are really nice. The UI is well thought out and you can easily navigate through your units and bonuses, and the maps look great.
I ended up fighting against another alpha tester named Deuzerre. At first the game was lagging so bad i thought i would never be able to play, but after the first round, everything ran a lot smoother. I played a team made of a tank, a sniper, a support and an assault. My opponent was playing a team with a shadow, a tank, an assault and a sniper.
As it was my first game ever, i played very cautiously and moved my units all together, hoping he wouldn't kill me with some sort of aoe. After getting a lucky scan and seeing one of his units going my way, I ended up moving my units to a crossroad, thinking that my sniper would get the best angle to fire at my ennemy. It ended up being the right choice, as he had split his units in two groups : the shadow with the sniper and the tank with the assault. I think my opponent made a mistake, leaving his sniper alone while the shadow stayed in my team to scout for what i'd do.
At that point, his assault and tank were running up the street to meet my team in close combat. Since i had a support, my firepower was significantly lower than his and he would have taken me apart. Since i wanted to deal as much damage as possible, i set my sniper to offensive stance and started firing at his units, making him turn back and hide behind cover. As i saw him run away, i teleported my assault onto his sniper, which turned out to be a great move, as it allowed me to pick the only kill of the game. Soon after, the 15th turn ended and i saw the victory screen pop !
He later told me in chat that my assault had dodged three sniper shots. Beginner's luck i guess Hope you liked the story, of my first game. And join us alpha tester in FRAY.
Also feel free to ask any question about the game. I'll do my best to answer.
Hey guys. Here's an update on Fray. This is the first gamplay video of the game, so you can see how cool the game actually looks like. Also, the next build will be out tomorow.
I'm sorry to double post again here. Just saying the next stable build is out for fray. I wish i saw more TLers in the game. You'll come in due time. When it's the next eSports :D
I'm actually going to bump this once more. I hope it'll draw attention on this awesome game. I'm actually wishing we could see more competitve players in FRAY, as balancing is hard when no one is really trying hard. (Meaning I've won every game i've played so far and i'm not as good as some TLers in TBS)
Also as for the last feature added : All weapons are in game aswell as bonuses. Chat function has been implemented. New maps and team games aswell as FFA.
I hope i can get some of you into it. Have a nice day guys !
