I'm a little worried about the reasoning behind this. It's true that SC2 will not live or die based on the hotness of the players. But there's a definite vibe among a lot of the more nerdier fans that should be addressed. Working to make yourself look attractive isn't a "cool" or "manly" thing to do in the west, at least among nerds. Putting in effort into your appearance is seen as effeminate when it should really just be part of being a functional adult. Gamers give a pass on people who don't take showers, don't shave, don't use deodorant, and don't exercise.
I live in the U.S. and I personally disagree with these statements... I've played games and have been around people who do the same for my whole life, and never did any of us think that it is ok to be unclean and unhealthy lol. Especially not taking showers, not using deodorant etc. Where I live that is socially unacceptable and I don't think most gamers would disagree. Nobody likes a nasty smelly kid, gamer or not
The only way I can give some credit to that statement is that a lot of the time gamers are more tolerable of people who don't fit the typical mold of how someone "should" be, because most gamers are gamers because they don't give a shit. If we cared a ton about what was considered "cool" and stuff then I don't think a lot of us would play games, at least not to the extent that we do. Even at that though, I think its a stretch to say that it is ok to be unclean unhealthy and not care about your appearance at all. Some people may live like that but it is definitely not the norm.

I don't think we're in disagreement. It's generally unacceptable to look unclean and unhealthy everywhere. I'm not trying to make a broad generalization either, because people who play games are extremely diverse. However, the "stinky nerd" stereotype is predominant regardless of whether it's an accurate representation or not. The sentiment that gamers should not be required to put any effort into their outward appearance has shown up multiple times in this thread already.
I've had the unfortunate pleasure of having to spend time with some exceptionally filthy people. They'll form little cliques of nerds and they quickly become very self congratulatory. They'll come to agreement that anyone trying to dress well must be "gay" or a snob or a hipster without spending any effort to get to know anyone outside of their group. Maybe they're scared of rejection or maybe they just have asperger's. Even if this type of person makes up only 10% of people who play video games, a random person might think "gamers? Oh yeah, I met one of those once, they smelled like human refuse and looked the part too, and wouldn't shut up about games", when maybe half their friends play SC2 but aren't obnoxious about it.
Bear in mind that this is in response to someone saying that appearance is not important to progamers as long as they're not hideous. I think "better than hideous" is an unacceptably low bar. I'm not trying to say western progamers look like shit either, but I will say that an inconsequential amount of prep time before going on camera would turn most of them from 5s to 7s or 8s. .
I am confused and angered that nada isnt either no.1 or no.2.
Edit: just like the guy above me said this list is so shockingly inaccurate it gives me a headache :/..
only 2 people i recognize who could be called handsome in the classical sense are tasteless and tyler (of the foreigners). and like 30 on the list who are exactly the opposite of hot;)
of the koreans (that i know) select and boxer but he aged a lot recently

although i feel that the western world hunk look is more like tanned, toned, tall hard bodies. in korea it's like a hunk is a weedy childlike frame with anime hair.
No.
(@ 55 seconds)
not tall, just quite cut
Um what? Taecyeon is 185cm (6'1"), which, considering the average height of a Korean male is 5'8", is quite tall. More than tall enough for me, and certainly tall enough for Korean girls. What about him is childlike or weedy?
okay fair enough.
but even the more 'cut' korean progamers like nada and reach are pretty cute and childlike in appearance, especially nada's anime hair. maybe it's their facial features and lack of facial hair... i'm not sure.
it's true that korean progamers tend to look after themselves, the progamer lifestyle in korea is generally eating healthily and working out while still playing. it makes you look more healthy and confident, which are two key attributes for a handsome look.
sheth is handsome because we watch his very interactive stream and know he's a lovely guy with a great personality. but if you switched his personality with a jerk (for example deezer) then you would probably not find him to have a handsome appearance in the slightest.
day9 has confidence, but obviously does not look after his body. both day9 and tasteless could be models if they worked out and tidied themselves up a little. very handsome features, tall, dark hair and confident... but they look scruffy with a nerdy frame.
idra is pretty much the only foreign progamer who takes care of his appearance, if he was taller he would be a very hunky guy.
that's my thinking anyway... if day9, tasteless, artosis and some of the more popular foreign progamers tidied up their image then sex appeal would most definitely improve the appeal for non-nerdy people outside the progaming circle.

hehe. Flash is not hot i guess but he has something badass about his face that appeals to guys. he's kinda similar to MC in this regard. but the average girl wouldn't find any of the two attractive

In the modern day, yes, but back when bodybuilding focused more on symmetry and proportion they were all pretty aesthetic. Since HGH and doping became popular, you get the 'grossly' huge guys with HGH gut.

it's not like people like me or like TLO or w/e are intentionally skinny, we were just born that way
If you ate more and trained hard, you wouldn't be skinny. Granted, people are born with certain body compositions but you're only limited to them by the amount of effort you put into improving them.

I think the list seems pretty accurate to the west which is what I am guessing the people who made it based it on. Tyler/Tasteless/Apollo/Demuslim seem like the top 4. Idra shouldnt be on the list cuz he is basically your stereotypical nerd. Arguments could be made for a few others but really the list seems pretty accurate if I was a judge.

Edit: TLO/Jinro/Grubby also deserve to be there.
it's absolutely inaccurate. try to abstract their looks and don't think a bit about their personality. artosis is not handsome at all. neither is demuslim, huk is probably the least attractive of all and they're all pretty high up there. trust me, if you'd ask some girls they'd say most of that list is the opposite of attractive. like 99% of ppl here are guys who know/are fans/adore etc those guys as players, so i can see why the list is so but in regards of attractiveness it's absolutely flawed
i'm not really sure what girls think about asian men though

MC? MC looks...chubby...
yeah he's bulky, but he has the death stare noone else does in sc2;)

And yes I am american and I am fat. It's just how we are. Everyone has the right to be different
You are an idiot, don't generalize an entire nation of people based just on yourself.
sex appeal is about more than just the person's physical condition, it is about the way they dress and present themselves to their current and potential fans. i think it wouldnt hurt to upgrade team uniforms from tshirts to something more flashy. stuff like that could possibly make the players seems less awkward, imo.
You have it wrong. It's not the Western gaming is like how you depicted it..... that's just the old stereotype. There's nothing to be actively done to get rid of this. It's just going to happen naturally.
Okay, I'm not gonna be naive. A lot is like that. But it's more stereotype than fact now.
First of all i laughed at ur post.its funny but its sadly the reality... I totally agree it should change... But not sure how its possible... And ...i really beleive it dépend from region to region... Where i come nerd are very rare... Welll all the nerd play cod and gay other gay game...
