Edit: just like the guy above me said this list is so shockingly inaccurate it gives me a headache :/..

only 2 people i recognize who could be called handsome in the classical sense are tasteless and tyler (of the foreigners). and like 30 on the list who are exactly the opposite of hot;)

Yeah its not any of this most pro gamers look just like anyone else. Even artosis and tasteless openly call the players nerds all the time, and that is really what people generally think about people that play games for a living. Esports would be lucky to achieve something a status like poker, but real sports will always be untouchable by esports.

Sry, but I dont really like what is described as "Korean Pro gamer style" here.
For me this "korean progamer style" looks so forced and unnatural.
They try to lok cool and imitate some western style of coolness but they fail at it when wearing leather jackets or what not.
The other thing they do is wearing these ridicilous costumes that look like formula 1 racing gear (they wear it because of safty, fireproof and what not) that makes no sense and looks like absolute shit on a gamer.
Instead of trying to copy something or adapt something and fail misserably at it they should come up with something new if they really need this stuff.

They try to create a sense of beeing important and special around them because they are gamers and wear costumes. They should be who they are and show their personality and dont let them imprint and label themselves like blank goods.

For me a player representing who he is is 10000 times more then a player wearing that stuff that is put on him or wearing something because he tries to look cool or because it is the way progamers are supposed to dress.
Its like a clowns costume and they are afraid to show their personality and stand for it !

Hmm. Koreans have pro houses where many progamers have time to go to the gym a lot.

A western "pro" is probably technically an amateur, dealing with home life, college, etc and may need to forego extras in order to practice more starcraft, like a gym.

Not saying I disagree with the above posts though, I completely agree, and lack of material time does not excuse not getting a Shave and a Haircut! once in a while or washing one's face. It's just probably going to be harder for them.

Digressing: Naniwa would probably look great bald.

I respectfully disagree, maybe you haven't seen Starcraft in Korea, but I don't get the unnatural vibe at all. I'll agree that it is definitely not transferrable in USA though, the audience/style/culture just isn't the same. In my view they don't create a sense of being special, rather they are viewed that way by others.

that's funny. since every "sports" team in the entire western world wears "costumes" also.
-
also, wearing a uniform tying you together as a team and any and everything else a uniform represents...smothers your personality and makes you a clown? really?
-
to me everyone agreeing to show up in jeans and a team t-shirt just looks half-assed. teams need to get their shit together and get some actual uniforms for their players.

Well if these formula 1 costumes and other related styles are the way the typical Koreans are dressed I respectfully withdraw my statement.
Otherwise I can not understand how you come to this conclusion.

to me everyone agreeing to show up in jeans and a team t-shirt just looks half-assed. teams need to get their shit together and get some actual uniforms for their players.

no they dont ???
In classic sports "uniforms" are there to fit the needs of the athlete.
For example in skiing to get better aero dynamics, in formula1 or nascar to protect agianst fire and what not.
In fotball or soccer everyone in the team needs to be uniform so the players can distinguish and reconize them better on the field.

This is not needed for the esports. And thats why simulating the same thing for esports instead of doing its own thing and coming up with its own natural thingy just feels dumb and unnatural for me.
They try to emulate something they are not. They belive just becuase I wear some unfirm I am an accepted sports man.
And thats where they fail. Instead of beeing brave and developing its own thing and not doing some crazy uniform stuff because there is no need they should do something thats more logical and better fitting.

I dunno, I think they're doing ok. It's true that the West tends to prefer a different aesthetic than the East, but I still think there are plenty of good-looking guys in the scene.

Artosis is not handsome, no, but he's ok as a normal human being. Demuslim is plenty good-looking. Huk has a really good face and demeanour; he's just short.

I think basically every major western progamer is pretty ok these days.

Actually i think that it has more to do with westerners not knowing any progamers and automatically assuming they are fat and lazy. Most of the foreigners arent ugly or fat by any means. The number of rotund sc2 playerrs can be counted on 2 hands
There is obviously a huge racial imbalance in the global starleague. Just take a look at the code s roster: Korean Korean Korean Canadian Korean...

you don't wear a uniform to signify that you're part of a sport. you wear it to signify your team. (more cheesy, your bond with that team)

equipment is there to suit the needs of the player. there's a reason things that have no requirement for uniforms have them. do you think a chess team makes shirts for eachother is to feel more like a "sport"? no. it's not. it's because they're a team and want to be recognized as such and belong to one another. do you think teams wear things like track pants with thier team name and emblem on it to events in addition/beside thier actual competing uniform (think soccer or tennis or swimming or basketball) to further underline that they're a "sport"? no, it's because they want to make it clear that they're representing thier team even when they aren't necessarily IN the actual competition.

you don't wear a uniform to identify that you're a "sport".
you wear it for yourself and for everyone else.
you don't understand the purpose.
