Hello hello folks!
I hope you all had a wonderful, drunk Christmas, I know that I sure did! Anyway I've been staying over in Ireland to see my girlfriend's folks over the festivities and, well, they obviously have heard that I'm a bit of a SC2 player and rather the geek.
So they got me SC + BW for my Xmas present! How awesome is that!
So after playing thousands of games of SC2 I played my first ever game of Brood War - damn setting hatcheries to different hotkeys and not having two waypoints for your units is a pain!
The game plays wonderfully on Windows Vista (not my laptop) and I was struggling a bit because I had to play with a trackpad... and I don't know the standard hotkeys (I'm a grid user on SC2).
The fear I got when two marines appeared in my base and my pool wasn't even done. I thought I'd been so out-done and would be letting down my image of this master of RTSs (I'm really not, I hit masters briefly in SC2 and did well in one tournament but that's all).
1st Game Replay!
Anyway there is the replay if you want to look it over! Naturally I know mutas are super gosu and lings are sweet as hell so I went for double upgrades on both of them. Took me about 25 minutes to get my first muta and I was confused as to why I couldn't expand to the minerals I could see on the map (they're on high ground).
Great game though - I hope one or two of you can check out the replay, it'll maybe make you laugh. :D
I can see why the game made the scene it did now though.
I was advised by my girlfriend's wee cousin (it's his dad I was playing) that the campaign is fantastic but I've never really been a big single player player... Ho hum!
Anyway much love and thanks for reading!

I remember my first game, even though i didn't know how to play i was 1v1ing my friend who also didnt know how to play, so it turned into a long and pretty silly game and it was really fun.

I don't suppose you have the replay lying around still do you?!

Watched the rep, not that bad actually haha. Brings back old memories: I remember, my first multiplayer game ever: it was a 3v3 on a small blizzard map, I went 9pool and we somehow won. Then in my second game (first 1v1) on python I got in-base proxy double barack rushed with bunkers T_T I wish I still had the replays :/ The single player is a good place to learn the very basics of the game, and helps you understand the story of SC2 a bit more

Fun story thx for share! Congrats for friends & relatives that know your wants and surprise you!
(My first, only, and last SC game was pre-BW, and involved (to my friend's sick amusement) a bunker with nothing in it, 2 siege tanks, and a ton of battlecruisers against some version of an easy AI. The SC1 equivalent of an SC2 18 probe mass t3 tech allin at like 25 minutes. Still laugh)

I don't suppose you have the replay lying around still do you?! Yea, after we both learned how to play, it was a lot more intense. You definitely have to put in more effort and focus than you normally would for a ladder game. But because of that, even though I would lose sometimes, it still felt really good cause everything was hard-fought.
Unfortunately i no longer have the replay, I wish i did.

Brood war has some weird hotkeys. Specifically sieging/unsieging tanks i think made me very confused for a while, i think it is literally L or something to siege tanks, complete other side of the keyboard.

How could you forget that it was O to siege and unsiege tanks. I remember so many times frantically pressing my O button only for my siege tank to siege and then immediately un-siege on accident.
I remember stream chat constantly complaining about Terran just pressing O to victory. Good times... I miss BW when it was at its peak in the foreign scene.

Lol! I remember when I would play people and send in the flank of like 20~ zlots from 2 sides while dragoons charged in and then siege tanks would unsiege before firing a shot and it would just be destruction xD Broodwar.. so many good memories 2 base carriers as well! <3

Well I've played one game so far and I played Zerg so I have no experience of this crazy O hotkey!
I'm actually a dvorak user but I'm obviously sticking to qwerty when playing BW as otherwise the hotkeys are completely nuts!

@Op in the future please upload replays to repdepot.net thanks! edit: Watched the replay. I did have a few laughs. There is no auto mine in old school SC:BW. Also, I love how your opponent tried to turtle on 1 base for most of the game against a 3 base zerg lol. Then you got to 4 base and it was just like "Baby hold on!" for your opponent. He got infested big time .

Haha really glad you had a chuckle! The no auto-mine got me for like 5 whole minutes!
Having experience of SC2 definitely helps with the hotkeys and knowing to expand! Loving the game though, the game plays really well.
And thanks for the link, I did a quick google for where to upload replays but couldn't find anywhere. I was going to ask in this thread later but you've sorted it for me!
I just stuck it on my server in the same folder as all my SC2 replays haha. Only place I could think of!
Here's the actual link using a good replay site :D Haha 56 APM with a trackpad, got to say that impresses myself.
Thanks for the replies guys and merry christmas and a happy new year!

I've been told everybody is on iCCup so I'll be trying that out shortly!
I had a 2nd game. I love christmas!
Thanks @Phyrigian

Ok. Just watched the replay. Tips: -When you see your opponent with a BC you know he spent about 2k minerals and gas on that. This means that he will have almost no army if he isn't just doing it as bad manner because he is ahead. In this game you could've just massed lings and owned him after taking out the BC. -6 muta < 1 BC. Use scourge instead to take out the battle cruiser. They deal 120 damage each. 120!!!! That means that 2 pairs of scourge can take out 1 BC. thats 50 minerals and 150 gas is all that is needed to take out a 400 mineral 300 gas unit(Battle Cruiser). Not a bad deal ay?. -Reccomended Threads. Great for new players starting out. Very in-depth. Also good for beating your cousin's father ^^. Read 1 or 2 of these before another match. It will teach you a great deal. -Move drones from your main to other baseS (don't just send all your main's drones to one base, especially if you have one with only around 8 drones, like your 3rd in this replay) when minerals begin to deplete. (18:20) Also do so when other bases deplete. Often this means you need to get another base or 2 fast if you didn't already to keep up the same production rate. -Build more than 1 hatchery per base. The zerg are called the swarm for a reason. They can do a TON of production at once. Instead of the Queen for injection we just build more hatcheries in Brood War. -Read up on Liquipedia about the Queen and Defiler if you didn't already. Tons of info there about tons of stuff.
