Super off topic, but I actually have thought about this little "HuK is Korean" thing that floats around occasionally. Personally I don't see it as trolling when people say "HuK is Korean". It's just sort of cute. Let me explain: For it to make sense, first you have to suck it up and move past the obvious: "But HuK isn't a Korean citizen". Of course he isn't "Korean" in that sense. But that sense of defining him isn't useful to us if we're looking at him as a gamer! We don't care about his birthplace, his race, his gender, or whatever other characteristic he holds that he does not control. What we do care about his what made him the successful gamer he is, which I can broadly describe as being a combination of inner skill and drive along with external support and coaching. In Korea, this combination is nurtured by the nature of the scene. There is a huge network of support for progaming, and as a result there is much greater devotion and resources dedicated to competitive SC2 than there is in other places such as the US. So yeah, Huk is doing just fine in comparison to other "foreigners" -- but is it because he's a special "foreigner", or is it because he is Korean when viewed through the lens of SC2 progaming and not through the lens of Customs & Border Protection . | ||
