But in this case, Milkis posted his (self-admittedly very elitest) opinion on a message board, and was more or less like, "all you people who think you have esports, you don't have esports. True esports is BW. And that's about it. Sc2 has BW-level potential, but isn't there yet."
A lot of people who had been involved in other esports (CS, Quake, SF4, etc) took offense to it. There were a few ad hominem attacks, but by and large, people like Wheat and others were like, "Why are you shitting on everything we've done? We fight for these things too."
To which Milkis could have said, "sorry, you're right, those are esports," &c. Instead, he got into a twitter argument with wheat, and deleted his twitter account, his reddit account, and then posted this blog here to draw attention to the fact that he vanished (in case we didn't notice from the fact that he deleted his accounts).
Frankly, I agree with Wheat. Yes, BW is incredibly successful in Korea. It isn't the end all be all of Esports though. There are other games that have risen to prominence.
Milkis just apparently doesn't want to admit that.
The reason i quoted you, is because there are a lot of people (myself included) who feel like Milkis should get his fair share of flames for the post he wrote on reddit. It's a controversial viewpoint, he knew it when he posted it, then he got upset when people disagreed.
Deleting everything and quitting esports isn't the way that it should have been handled.

I think if this 'good-bye' was phrased differently, it would have got significantly different reactions :/

Do you think "Good Riddance" is a very rude thing for a person to say to a community who supported him through all of his trials and tribulations, only to see him flee from the scene once people disagreed with him?
I'm fine with a normal Goodbye, so long. But Good Riddance? he wouldn't have anything to quit if a community didn't exist.

What content? He's a jumped up translator. He wasn't crying about the mob when he was leading the pitchforks against Alex Garfield who danced intellectual circles around his biased (borderline racist) opinion of the Puma "scandal" but made the mistake of criticizing Milkis openly which is the easiest way to sabotage even the most salient point and draw the ire of the community.

Milkis is the hero we deserve, but not the hero we need right now. <3

02.24 I'm drunk. And almost crying when reading this. I love you. You are the nr1 community hero. Fuck the haters theyre just stupid idiots.

milkis needs to learn to stop qqing

Baezzi 2.0?
You've done a lot of good things for the community Milkies, but don't bow out so ungraciously.

There are nearly 2 million Korean Americans. I think we can find another who knows SC2 and can translate and probably do it without stammering and staring at his shoes because he's "exhausted."

Aww Milkis, dont be like Idra and GG early. Just because you just lost all your mutas and army doesnt mean that you dont still have all your drones in the gas geyser.
Its unfortunate that you are leaving because you are definitely play a big part to the community

No it is a very good way of handling it. He shoulda just stuck with BW and ignored SC2. While I think he over reacted he doesn't need to put up with this shit. Most telling him otherwise are just pissed that they aren't gonna be getting their translations.

Milkis did a good job and tried his best, nobody could ask any more of him. He gave up his time and effort to contribute to esports and people shat on him because they are ungrateful children.
You're awesome Milkis, thanks for your efforts mate Nobody shat on him, let's get that straight. He put himself out there and started a discussion where he belittled other games. The method where both sides try to disprove the other and offer their evidence has been around for some 4,000 years since the time of Socrates and it's not "shitting on somebody." He made some ignorant comments and when people argued against him he stuck his tail between his legs and ran. Maybe you would have a case if somebody else started the thread that led to his downfall but he was the author himself. Arguments arent shitting on people, calling him a stupid, ignorant fuck and posting image macros about how stupid he is could hardly be called "arguments"
|
Well, i really did love the guy. He always translated well and i enjoyed his enthusiasm he had. I thought he went out of the way and did so much for esports and i really commend him for that.
So for that, Thank You Milkis.
On the other hand, for him to make that thread and then when the inevitable backlash hit, he just tells the community to fuck off (that is exactly how i translate "good riddance to you all" ). That is very immature and insulting to fans and i am trying to refrain from saying the same thing right back to him(translated version). However out of respect for all that you have done for us, i will just say this:
Goodbye.

yeah but how many of those would devote their time to the community, and to bringing a fan favourite to a foreign competition and look after him?
|
So when you act like an asshole and call people out it's perfectly fine, but when they do it to you its not?
|
Best of luck to you with whatever you choose to do, you are a gentleman and a scholar. I hope you reconsider, you excelled beyond what any normal "translator" would do(There is You, and John. Legends of Translation and Nerdballing). Thanks for all work on behalf of all the ungrateful nerds who need to crave attention by insulting you.
