Lost Odyssey is a JRPG on the 360. It follows the immortal warrior Kaim Argonar, who has lost his memory. As trouble engulfs the world, he has to uncover his past and that of the people he meets as he tries to save the world from an evil sorcerer.
There are so many things I love about this game. The characters are widely varied, deep and engaging. The combat is simple yet elegant. The game world is huge, beautiful and full of hidden places to explore. The story is rich and original.
But the one thing that makes Lost Odyssey stand out most for me is the Thousand Years of Dreams, a collection of short stories that you access whenever Kaim regains a memory. The accompanying music, composed by Nobuo Oematsu of Final Fantasy fame, really tops off the experience and made this the first and to date only game where I actually cared for the characters and felt emotionally involved in what was happening.
If you own an Xbox and haven't played this, get out there and buy it. It's my favourite game since the n64 and is easily the most underrated game on the 360.
Just remember to have tissues nearby, you might need them. I sure did!
