What are the long term effects of carpal tunnel, if left untreated? Is there a 'cure? All of this would very much appreciated.
Thanks for the advice.

As far as I know the only cure is rest and then getting a better posture to prevent in the future. I have had a little of this myself, and it has got better with rest. Yep a lot of rest is definitely needed. I would absolutely get it checked out though. You don't want to ignore chronic problems, they get worse over time if you don't change the problematic routine that is causing it in the first place. A doctor will first of all help you confirm the problem and suggest ways to fix it. You have nothing to lose besides half a day. I use to have mild pains in my wrists when I spent too much time on the computer but a better position and using wrist rests have helped a ton.

Also, I have been sleeping on forearm recently, because my body does weird things in it's sleep, could this be related and should I just wait it out before I go visit the doctor? I doubt anyone is qualified to give a doctor's diagnosis especially since we can't examine it through the internet. Just go see a doctor

Sleeping on your arm can make your arm tingly and cold when you wake up but it shouldn't last more than a few minutes. To be honest, it's not the greatest idea to cut blood flow to your arm while you sleep like that. I don't think it can lead to any particular problems but in general I just wouldn't do it (don't quote me on that though, not really something I've put any thought in before).

Also, you could do a couple easy tests if you want to be more certain, although you should go to the doctor anyways. (Youtube phalen's and tinel's tests) 1.- Place your hands with their backs facing and touching each other for approximately 1 minute, while pushing slightly. If this causes symptoms it's considered positive. 2.- Use one of your fingers in one hand to tap the center of the frontal side of your wrist, this is the place where the median nerve courses through the wrist inside the carpal tunnel. Positive if you feel worsening of the pain/tingling in your fingers when you do this.

From what i know, both what doctors have told me, and a friend who played competitive cs 1.6 for a few years in the uk, is that worst case sccenario, you can seriously fuck up your wrist/hand. my friend said he knew someone who hand a right hand that would involuntarily spasm every now and then, and the doctors told me that you can have your wrist painfully lock up so you can barely use your fingers, the cure to which is highly invasise carpal tunnel surgery which leaves permanent tissue scars. Moral to the story is if it starts to sting often, from very little use, go see a doctor ASAP. Its a relatively small investement to potentially prevent serious long term problems. Granted very few cases are as bad as what i mentioned but i wish someone hand warned me like this 3 and a half years ago . p.s. one thing that can help alot is something a physio-therapist (or however you spell it) helped me with, is your posture. The tendons (or something anyway) in your arm go all the way up your arm into your shoulder and down your spine, so if you have bad posture, that puts stress on your wrists indirectly. Improving my posture was one of the things which helped my wrist go back to almost as good as new like it is now,

Even you don't want surgery or whatever, better just to get it checked out first and go from there!

Honestly right now if you go to a family medicine doctor he'd prob just tap on ur wrist some and then tell u to rest it. Theres braces out there for your wrist thats pretty good. If you want to be safe then go to a doctor. If you want us to help, we'd need to know more details about ur injury anyway. Duration and location of the numbness (What digits and what part of ur hand is the numbness/tingling in). What makes it better or worse. Whether its bilateral or not. Recent trauma (broken arm? fall on ur hand? use your and to break a fall? Playing on the monkey bars? You pregnant? Exactly what position makes it better. History of diabetes? Family history of autoimmune diseases. Then look at ur hands and compare the 2. Any muscle wasting? Any motor weakness? And a bunch of other crap that's too personal to type over the internet. If you were to have carpal tunnel and a doctor knew your full history and drug allergies and etc. Possible test that he can run would be nerve conduction studies and electormyography. Again if you did have it and didn't have any contraindications, treatment would include removing whatever contributing factors (starcraft 2), NSAIDs (depending on contraindications), wrist spints, and possibly local steroid injections, surgical decompression. B vitamin supplementation has also be recommended because some patients iwth carpal tunnel have low B6. If you want you can read http://www.aafp.org/afp/2003/0715/p265.html . Less thick version at http://www.aafp.org/afp/2003/0715/p279.html If you end up losing ur arm, plz don't come looking for me :0
