2 month ago I decided to stop playing World of WarCraft and get back into StarCraft 2. Season 1, I was comfortably playing Random in Diamond League, although I never intended to "be in the best league". I got promoted to Diamond rather unexpected.
Now, I started again in the end of Season 2 and got demoted to platinum. Boy, was I pissed at that. So I started really laddering. Like most people I dipped at first, but now I'm rank 1 or 2 in my division and constantly playing Diamond players. By constantly I mean 8 out of the last 10 of my opponents were diamond. The 2 Platinum players were top 8 platinum and I beat the pretty handily. Against diamond, sometimes I win, sometimes I loose. I think out of the last 10, I got 2/2 wins against platinum and 3/8 against diamond.
I can really feel the promotion coming. This is pretty important, because when starting out, I set my first goal to get Top 8 Plat. When I got that, my next goal was #1 Plat. Now that I did that, my next goal is the promotion.
I really need that now, in order to set a new goal. The bad thing about it is: It's right there, at my fingertips. Each game I loose against diamond players I feel: "If I would've won that, maybe I would have gotten promoted". I see people in my division ranking up and suddenly they are gone because of promotion.
So I really need that promotion. Tonight, I'm going on a game rampage. I'm at a point where I was so comfortably at Rank 1 in my division, that I don't even care about that any more. I'll just keep queing.
God, I hope I'll remember to screenshot the promotion screen when it finally comes up. Just need to get that off my chest, because I really worked with promotion in mind compared to the last time, where it was a nice side effect.
Wish me luck.

Don't be too hopeful, blizzards system is kinda random. They also won't promote you unless the system is completely sure you are diamond (so even if you are borderline on the diamond side they will hold off on promoting you)
Nevertheless, good luck!

good luck bro, but i've to say the promotion system is kinda screwed. I've been beating masters and even grandmasters and i'm still waiting for my diamond -> masters promotion. all the best
|
good luck i'm still waiting on my diamond -> masters promotion on KR we'll race

Good luck! Got demoted from gold to silver this night. Second demotion since January or February (placed silver in season 1, got demoted to bronze, went up in the same season, finally placed gold in season 3, now boom). Hope you get back to diamond some time soon.

wish there was at least some way to see how close to promotion we are or what is holding us back from getting promoted so I can atleast hyperfocus on something
|
I won 19 games in a row on my friend's high diamond account and no promotion.
The system is a lie.
|
I suppose the system is good in theory but things get messed up when it needs simply to find you a match to play, as in it could perhaps misinterpret the results on this basis.

I'm kind of at a loss here. As of yesterday, I get matched with High Diamond (rank 25 and above) players. Of course, now I'm losing more games against them than winning, I didn't expect to rush through diamond by any means.
Does that mean it will take even longer now for me to get promoted? Sigh, I don't know

I wouldn't sweat that. As my own "career" abundantly shows, promotions can be a risky, shaky matter, where the system isn't very sure of what it's doing or at least whatever it does lacks permanency, even if, possibly, only due to factors that are not oversights. For example, changing seasons can mean removing inactive players and freeing up room in divisions, but I'm not sure if and to what extent this matters. Anyway, it's probably better to spend some time in Plat with Diamond MMR, as opposed to getting a quick promotion to Diamon and then back to Plat MMR and fearing demotion every day.
