EPTFirst the good news: Dorm life is great. I've met some really cool people, am doing fine in classes, and am overall having a great time. The school's firewall is pretty bad, and pretty much any and every proxy isn't blocked, so accessing TL isn't a problem. When i don't have any work left to do, I can get my TL fix, which is nice.
I've also been playing quite a lot of Broodwar. The firewall shuts down attempts by gaming clients (steam, battle.net 0.2, minecraft, etc.) to access the internet, but Broodwar has LAN. (<3) I play mostly protoss, but I've found that i can beat pretty much everybody in the dorm with mass muta playing zerg, so I'm considering switching.
Currently my builds are:
Toss: 2gate goon into reaver or HT, expand then power out gateway units and upgrades. reaver/storm drops when possible.
Zerg: something like 11gas 10pool, drone for a bit then hatch, into 2 base 3/4 hatch ling/muta.
Neither are great builds, but everybody in the dorm including me is E level or so (I might be D-), so they work fine.
And now the bad news: I have to go through a proxy every time i want to see an imgur image. The proxy has it blocked because it's "personal network storage." I can get by it, but it's a hassle.
Worse though, is that torrents don't work. Even if you get in to the site through a proxy and download the torrent file, the proxy won't let you connect to the seeders to actually get the files. I spent 4 hours today trying to get the rom for super smash bros melee to play on an emulator, and it saddens me that i'll have to wait 2 weeks when i'm going home to visit friends and family to play.
On a more serious note, i just learned that my dog, a 2 year old black lab, might need surgery. He injured a foreleg on wednesday, and the vet said that he should recover by friday. Today he was limping on both legs, and was taken to the vet again. He might need surgery to repair a torn tendon (tendons? unsure about the details) I haven't gotten word of how he's doing since, and being unable to see him is killing me.
If anybody has any suggestions or tips, i'd be very appreciative.
