I recently moved back to my grandmas place and I'm paying some rent now. And they already have the Verizon double play for TV+Phone and were paying 100$ a month. I saw an ad for the triple play for 85$ which is the same but includes internet with no contract, setup fees, equipment fees or anything (in fact we already have the router and don't even need anything). So I'm saving her money which is awesome. Win:Win , Winning.
Anyways, It's really hard finding a job in today's world especially if you don't have a license, car, or job already. More than half the places you walk into tell you to just fill out the online app on their website, and most of the good jobs don't advertise in physical mediums, they prefer craigslist or monster or whatever online.
And besides that, there are so many things that I just can't do without internet access. I can't network my little side business at my leisure without hassling others for their computer/internet and ferrying files via ipod back and forth.Or taking pics with my phone and texting them to my email and saving them that way. Not to mention I don't have a car to get back and forth easily.
Another huge fucking deal to me is that I can't just google some shit when I need some information right there on the spot. A phone number, map directions, a recipe, general curiosity about random things throughout the day, or an urgent request posted to all my friends, family, and acquaintances via social network or email.
Among the many really tool related uses of the internet to make life easier there are also tons of things that are important to me that I just can't do without an internet connection. I can't get any of the music I like, There are no record stores around here, and even if there were they wouldn't have the artists I listen to or let me listen to samples before i buy or download or whatever. In fact many artists even have free downloads on random websites or places like bandcamp. There is also the fact of movies and documentaries that I can't find at redbox or whatever movie place is local here.
Everything in the world is slowly being absorbed into the internet, its cheaper and more efficient than almost anything physical. And It really fucking sucks when you don't have it, you feel like you are disabled and can't do anything as well as 'normal' people. It makes me wonder how people can still get on in this day and age without knowing how to use a computer or the internet, yet I've lived with them almost my whole life.
