Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |

GOM is not on TV.. Its an internet thingy.

i'm sighing in the most audible way Any link? Of this VODS getting taken down. I haven't looked into VODS lately. :/ And I haven't seen any getting taken down yet. hes probably talking about Jon747,because it can't be nevake, hell just a few hours ago Hwaseung's official youtube account made a comment on nevake's account LecafOZ (11 hours ago)Very Thanks VOD, but there is some mistake. HwaseungOZ Protoss Shy,김유진,is NOT Shy but sOs[KaL]. Please modify player's ID The progame teams know, and apparently approve, of Nevake? Why did Jon747 get taken down then? IIRC, the copyrighted content that got jon747 taken down was related to games played during wcg and/or one of the gom leagues. Don't quote me on that though.
And they had to take down the whole account not only the offending content? What a waste

I agree GomTv is in no way a substitute for MBC Game, even if you consider SC2 as an adequate replacement for Broodwar which I don't there’s still plenty of other games and shows going on on MBC Game which aren't getting replaced by GOM TV which is off air the vast majority of the time and not broadcasting around the clock.
I stated earlier that GSL isn't on TV at all and apparently that was semi wrong because it kind of is but only on pay to watch TV which certainly doesn't replace a whole free to view channel which is gonna bring in a lot more viewers and new support than a channel you have to pay for. People bored and just channel hoping might start watching Broodwar as a result of coming across it on TV which won't happen on pay per view TV.

Gaming seems like a tricky market to get in to let alone stay in. CJ Entertainment tried to take a jab at it with the SuperFight thing but that flopped. I wouldn't necessarily take MBC's decision to scrap gaming to mean broadcasting starcraft on television doesn't make money, just that the owners feel televising korean jersey shore and wondergirls and whatnot will make more.
But anyways, to me the biggest effect of MBC changing gears is that a third to a half of competitive starcraft's quality content will stop. For competitive BW content produced with a professional work ethic there is the OSL, PL, and MSL. Each league has spaced out their matches like any other TV show, put effort into making new maps, and actually put together quality television. The WCG has never came close--they employed wacksteve for how many years?
As for GOM's BW stuff, over half the seats were empty and a bunch of teams didn't even take part. There were times when it kind of felt like the NBA D-League, less prestige and lower levels of competition. Maybe if they bring in MBC Game's staff they can actually make it work, but I'm not terribly optimistic.
Its been a good run MBC. I hope to see quality stuff put together to fill this gap.

All the time we thought there was a happy marriage between k-pop and BW. Little did we know it was an insidious conspiracy. This means war. Who wants to go destroy every makeup store in South Korea?

Maybe even love them. But alas they stabbed a knife in our backs.
Et tu, K-pop?

Oh wow, I can't believe I missed this thread. Horrible horrible! This really better not be the end of an era... Though curious, how much better would a music channel do? I'm sure there's other music channels already in existence, but a channel (and one of the only two channels) for electronic games is pretty unique.

, nooo more msl. Sad day for BW, time to download every msl game ever. Speaking of which anyone know a torrent for such?

Silly k-pop, mbc is for nerds.

At some point we should compile all MSL vods (OK, not every single one, maybe just the top 8s + important matches) and put it up on a torrent.

There is an MSL finals torrent around already (i got it like a year ago or something). same for OGN. as for top 8's...they're not even all up on nevake. since jon747 shut down alot of them were lost

This is pretty sad, even though I dont actually watch bw anymore, since sc2 was released. But they still have ogn, right? And ogn was always way better than mbc anyways. And what do korea even need two e-sports tv-channels that shows esports 24/7 for anyway? But I will miss MSL though. It had such memorable stories like the savior vs bisu final and the whole bonjwa stuff. I mean, when you look at all the finals there were always the same guy (bonjwa) in atleast 3-4 final in a row.
However if ogn shots down too, I'm gonna be really sad. I never expect bw to die so early. But if it does, it just shows the problem with e-sports. The games just wont last very long. There will always be sequals, which will kill the original game. It has happened to Street fighter 3 (now dominated by sf4), cs 1.6 (dominated by cs:s), SSBM (now taken over by SSBB), and so on.
That's why I believe that e-sports will never become big. The only thing that e-sports has for it, to become is, that games are such a huge part of pop culture. But it will just die out, and maybe blossom for 2-3 years once in a while.
I have alot more to write but i'm to lazy, and most people probably dont care anyways...

Youtube works like that, when you violate the copyright laws the first few times the content gets deleted and you get a warning, if you continue to upload illegal material the account gets deleted.
