*NOTE, THERE WILL POSSIBLY BE SPOILERS FOR RECENT EVENTS IN THIS TOPIC. I ASK EVERYONE TO SPOILER TAG ANY RECENT TOURNAMENT RESULTS, BUT IF YOU'RE NOT UP TO DATE I STILL SUGGEST YOU STAY OUT OF THIS TOPIC. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.*
neo_sporin made this topic back for MLG Columbus (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=228747), and a lot of people seemed to like it. So, with MLG Anaheim around the corner, I thought the community might enjoy it if this topic was brought back.
So, this topic you list 3 people you want to do well at Anaheim (this doesn't necessarily mean win the whole thing, making it to the finals bracket is good enough for most people) and 3 people that, for one reason or another, you would prefer to see go right out of MLG with no success.
So, here are mine.
Hopes to win:
Destiny - Despite the tremendous improvements in his play recently (he recently beat ST.Bomber 2-1 and ST.Ace 2-0), it seems like Destiny still gets no respect from the majority of the community. This may be because of his mannerisms, maybe not. Either way, I want Destiny to prove that he has the skills to pay the bills, and that he is a good player who is here to stay.
Any member of FXO - Players like SLoG, OptiKzErO and tgun are not well known, with no real tournament results, and they get no respect from the community. I've seen many times, them be referred to as diamond players, when they are actually capable of competing at the highest level, even though they didn't do well in GSTL. It's not just the less well known players of FXO I want to do well, after + Show Spoiler +qxc's all-kill of IM in GSTL he will be on a warpath in the open bracket. mOoNan bombed out of the last MLG, and after a disappointing show in GSTL, he also needs to show what he's got. Lastly, choya. A lot of people don't like him, but recently he's been a bit more liked. I hope he does well, he's a really nice guy.
SlayerS_BoxeR - Do I really have to explain this one? The Emperor, SlayerS_BoxeR. Out of Code A, BoxeR will be fighting desperately for Code S, and with how hard the Code A qualifiers are, this may be his only chance to get back into GSL. Think, if BoxeR were able to win Anaheim, with insanely skilled players such as NaNiwa, DongRaeGu and MMA around, wouldn't that be a great moment in StarCraft history? Imagine the Emperor standing on stage with a trophy, victorious once again.
Hopes to fail:
vile.Spanishiwa: How should I best explain this? You have players like tgun and Gatored, who are capable of competing at a very high level, but I'm not under some illusion that they're so good that they can go and beat MC or anything. Spanishiwa is one of those very, very few players I would actually say is overrated. Wait, wait. Don't get me wrong, he's good. He's damn good. He's beaten some great players such as TLO, but there's one thing I really hate, you see, and that is fanboys. Whether it's Halo fanboys, Broly fanboys or whatever. Spanishiwa is one of those players who has genuine fanboys that overrate him. A lot of players do, I know. Destiny does too, and I want Destiny to do well! But MAN, if you look at Husky's videos of Spanishiwa, I just get really, really annoyed. There are people saying "Spanishiwa is the greatest player of all time!" "I wonder if it's actually possible to beat Spanishiwa! He's unstoppable!" "Spanishiwa could seriously become a bonjwa!" "Spanishiwa vs MC! That would be an amazing match!" Stop it, stop it! Spanishiwa is good, but he's not that good! This exists for most players, but I have never seen it to such an aggravating extent as Spanishiwa. I hope Spanishiwa bombs out, just to shut these guys up. I should know better though. Fanboys never shut up.
sixjax.MajOr - I don't have any real problems with the guy, but after that whole SEA Tournament debacle, I hope a bit of karma comes through and gives MajOr an early exit.
RGN.SLush - I don't have any problems with SLush, and this is going to sound petty, but I'm tired of him owning up MLG when I'd much rather see a player I like in that spot. I know SLush won't even take a Code A seed, so I'm hoping someone who will take a Code A seed can place ahead of SLush.
My hopes to fail weren't the greatest, but I'm a pretty nice guy and I don't really mind who wins, even if SLush does well again, I'm not gonna rage or anything, I'm going to give him props for his achievement. If SLush manages to place highly again in this stacked tournament, he deserves serious props. That's the great thing about MLG. There's no excuses (outside of jetlag -____-), players who do well didn't fluke. They EARNED it.
What are YOUR hopes to win and fail?

Who do I want to win?
ProTip- You've probably heard of him
|
IdrA, I want another IdrA win!
|
I hope white-ra wins because he is the nicest guy in all of esports, and my personal favorite player. It would be cool for any non-korean to win, but I would also love Boxer to win. I would like for qxc to win and show his dominance over everyone.
As for fails, I wouldn't want destiny to win because a lot of his fans are annoying as hell. I would rather not have all koreans in the top 3. I don't want too many mirror matchups. And I want DongRaeGu to fail because he is zerg and mean to my favorite players.
I'm sad though, I'll only see the first day. 2-3 I will be on a plane headed to Monaco.

I think it's flat out messed up to actually hope for someone to fail. Pretty BM, mate. Especially for Spanishiwa -
He's damn good. He's beaten some great players such as TLO, but there's one thing I really hate, you see, and that is fanboys....
....I hope Spanishiwa bombs out, just to shut these guys up.
So.... you're hoping he fails just because people like him? Really, dude?

I am hoping for Boxer to achieve a win... unrealistic I know. Would make for an awesome great come back story.
To fail... the many trolls and arrogant douches in the community.

Interesting list. Personally I hope Slush does well, though I wouldn't put him in my top 3. Hmm, without putting much thought into it...
To Win: WhiteRa Boxer Sheth
To Fail: Spanishiwa Haypro ???
I agree with Destiny. I hope he shows he is not as bad of a player as people say he is... too bad people will continue to call him bad anyway. I don't even constantly watch his stream or anything either, but I think he gets too much crap for his skill.
On the flip side I need to agree with Spanishiwa to fail. He has gotten nothing but constant praise, and he was marketed by Husky as some god of innovation. I really don't have anything against the guy personally, but I am so sick of hearing how amazing he is and how innovative he is. I wouldn't mind seeing him get stomped so we could hopefully see less of that.
As for Haypro... meh. I often hear how good he is, but I was never impressed by his play (or his results for that matter, though I am not saying he is awful) and his personality is very bland. I guess "fail" is quite a strong word... I really just want everyone else to do better than him in the group stages.
Hopefully this doesn't start any kind of flaming. I really don't hate any of the players.

Uh oh, I can already see people taking this way out of hand. It's just people's personal opinions of who they are cheering for... not some decision to screw them out of a tournament or something like that. Everyone cheers for different people for different reasons... once again it's just opinions. Hopefully people don't get worked up over this.

Do well:
1) HasHe --- > Cuz he's a boss and I want to see him show more people that.
2) Destiny ---> for similar reasons to you. The series against Socke in IPL really impressed me even though he lost. It made it clear (imho) that he could be a VERY good pro someday if he keeps his drive to improve. He could have easily beat Socke 2-0 if he didn't make some weird mistakes in game 1.
3) IdrA/Incontrol --> mostly because I'm a bit of an IdrA fanboy, but I also enjoy hearing interviews, and the better he does, the more interviews he'll get And Incontrol is just a cuddly boss and I like seeing him do well
Do poorly:
1) Koreans ---> Don't get me wrong, Koreans are awesome, but I'm really "Foreigners FIGHTING!!" so I don't really want to see another Korean Top 3, it makes me sad when they just come in and win everything. :/ I understand that they deserve it, but is Western training still that far behind? I guess it baffles me that more players don't get their shit together and start taking stuff more seriously (*cough*IdrA*cough*)
2) Major ---> Same reasons. I get that it was a small tourney and it wasn't a HUGE deal, but come-on man. Show some class, be professional.
3) I don't really have 3 players I don't like, lol

Yeah, I hope slayers_boxer fails because people overrated him. Am i doing this right?
this thread is just asking for people to troll it serves no purpose.

If that's your opinion then that's fine. I don't think simply cheering for or against someone should be some kind of taboo topic.

Hope to succeed
1. IMMVP - Guy has been in a slump recently. I think the reason he took so long to gg out of his most recent loss + Show Spoiler + was not because he was trying to be BM but because he was shocked that he lost to a foreigner. I imagine his confidence must not be very high right now but I still believe he's one of the best players in the world and a win at MLG could go a long way towards boosting his confidence
2. Jinro - Basically for the same reasons as MVP. Except I don't think Jinro will ever be one of the best terrans in the world again. Nonetheless a strong showing at MLG will go a long way for him.
3. Boxer - ummm, duh?
Not gonna go into who I'd want to fail. Just not into that. These progamers practice too hard and too long to have people wishing for them to fail.
|
Who I want to do well:
1. Boxer - Why else, he's the emperor and puts in a lot of effort. Plus I love seeing the cute little strats he is always trying to come up with to gain an advantage.
2. DRG - Pretty monstrous zerg, really hoping he does well at MLG and can see how much the fans like him :D
3. Destiny - I'm not really into his antics on his stream but I like his mass infestor play style, pretty nice and unique :D
Don't really want to see anyone fail lol

This could be a fine thread if people manage to realize that personal opinions are purely that, personal opinions. Hoping for somebody to fail is perfectly fine; it doesn't mean that theres some kind of outright hatred for that person, and arguing over it is stupid, to be frank.
Edit because I forgot to give my people ;p
To succeed:
Destiny *BOXER* Whitera
To fail:
Major Spanishiwa IdrA

Hopes to do well
Huk-I cannot even think of a reason to say why he should win or go far with out saying something obvious, I think MLG should be added to his list of accomplishments and I was bummed when I found out he wasnt going to be at columbus, Im so happy he is here now.
Boxer-Lim Yo Hwan is the freakin emperor. It was a sad day for esports when some no namer decided to take him out of the GSL. Its time for him to take it back.
Open Bracket-I want someone from the open bracket to make a legendary run, and give us a new name
Hopes to fail
Dong Rae Gu-I have always disliked him for some reason, Although I can't really place it. I guess its because he has all of this clamor of fans, despite not putting up any results other than team league.
Destiny-I feel like he is so overrated, yes hes good, but definitely not "get past open bracket" good
Not top 3 Korean-It would be nice to have a foreigner on the podium (I am one of those people that define Huk as Foreigner)
EDIT: *** and MVP because he beat MKP and made me very sad, twice

I'm already regretting posting because I know this won't be the case. Oh well, I'll just leave it as it is and see how many people flame me when I wake up tomorrow. :D

Rooting for: IMMVP, Jinro, Socke. Hoping to fail: Sixjax_major, Idra. I don't have a third actually.

I'd have to agree with the point you made about spanishiwa, but really, you get that kind of praise from anyone who hasn't seen the full picture, and it is depressing how many people only stick to one caster and don't think to stray from youtube.
I'll also have to disagree for the same reasons on destiny. If he tells one of his student's a build is unbeatable, the community calls it the "destiny 4gate". If destiny uses an overpool in a match, people make a thread titled "destiny's 11pool 18hatch". And it is disgusting how he manages to make only infestors and succede, even as a zerg player. It feels like I, as well as many a player better than me, take steps to break down a match-up, hard work to descipher what is best and what isn't, and destiny just steps in and says "INFESTORS!" it feels like he is the new cruncher, making the race look easy and begging for a nerf. I really hope infested terrans get removed soon so you can't take down a freeking planatary with a support caster.
My 3 to succede: Pheonix, watching this guy stream is so entertaining, and he makes zerg look strait imba with his fast 3 hatch style. IdrA: say what you will about his attitude but he deserves another win in my book. Bandanaman: you've probably heard of why.
3 to fail: The koreans: I want team USA to take this one hot off of + Show Spoiler + Spanishiwa: same reasons as OP Destiny: surprise surprise
|
To win 1- MVP: I`m just a huge fan love everything about him and can`t wait for his comeback. 2- IdrA:always root for him 3- Whitera: Special tactics To fail: The other koreans so some fanboys can shut up.

Win/do well:
Boxer - he will always be a hero Destiny - he has been working hard for months and he's due for an even better showing Sterling - a relative nobody, but his stream is cool, he's very humble, and he's quite good considering his lack of publicity.
Fail:
Desrow - I don't even know if he's going. He's just a dick. Major - see above Machine - the guy has been riding his beta/early SC2 wave for so long. He's also a member of EG, and my respect for them is at an all time low
