There was hype. A lot of it, in fact maybe a bit too much, as InControl's announcement of an announcement was infact an announcement of a new starcraft league, the North American Star League. I was super hyped up and excited about it, talked to my buddies about this new league, posted on TL about it, blah blah blah whatever.
Then, week one happened.
This picture sums up week one
It was a disaster, not yet a complete one but it was enough to drive away over 20k viewers to spread out into the IPL and the other leagues that run pretty much at the same time (GJ IPN! Great league!). But, slowly the NASL was rising from the ashes of week one, fixing this and that, inviting guess casters (i loved the idra casts). The matches each day were fresh, exciting, and fun to watch because of the high level play that each match contained and the casters doing their job of analyzing, explaining, and shoutcasting the whole match.
Now nine weeks later its the NASL FINALS YEAAAAAAAA-----------
The NASL finals.
AND THE MATCHES ARE BETTER THAN EVER! WITH MC, BOXER, SEN (<3 to you sen) PUMA ALIVE DARKFORCE JULY MOON SELECT RET SQUIRTLE SHETH HASUOBS ZENIO AND WHITE.RA, I DON'T THINK THAT ANY OTHER TOURNAMENT CAN TOP THIS LINEUP OF STARS! + Show Spoiler +Sorry for the caps, I can't emphasize how much I love the NASL
Sure, there were some screwups with the audio on day one, wrong maps, but right now with everything fixed, this is the best SC2 tournament i have ever watched!
NASL. You guys are ballers. Complete. Ballers. Please, don't stop doing what you are doing, because whatever the hell you guys are doing, it is magic.
Dont look if you dont want to be spoiled about the finals. + Show Spoiler +PUMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

the games made up for their errors like the overly long intros and interviews. but next season, they have to improve especially with MLG and GSL acting as comparisons. but you know what, not all that bad
|
I'd argue that the quality of the games is due to the fantastic players, not the NASL. That said, I think that the NASL has had a good season, despite all the hate it gets.
|
Yeah, i have hope in the NASL, too bad InControl is leaving NASL, T.T
78K VIEWERS LETS KEEP GOING!

Matches haven't been that good IMO. There have been maybe 3 or 4 good series out of 16.
DEFINITELY not the best tournament I've ever watched in terms of games or production. Not a complete train wreck though.

PS: What? How could it be any different, rofl. But NASL got the players together.

Yeah, i think that the players separate the NASL from all the other leagues

i think if the finals proves anything its that you cant match a live event in terms of magic, feeling and excitement. the 10 week online event seems like a bit waste of time in comparison

80k viewers mang the best.

NASL just got lucky that MC and Puma are playing some excellent games.
I still think its kinda ridiculous how Puma played for 3 days in the open tourney while everyone else grinded this whole crappy tourney for 3 months.

Realize that Puma had to go from ro1024 to the finals. That is 9 rounds in 3 days when the rest of the pros play 1 round each week.

I found all of NASL great until the bumpy finals but all is rainbows and butterflies as they have greatly improved.

128, 7 rounds, actually.

Just because the matches are good doesn't mean that the production value outside of the actual matches was good.

Oh, its a 256, so 8 rounds, my bad, with 1024 players

I would have to disagree. I think the NASL should just cut out the season entirely and instead do like 4 qualifiers in order to play in the finals. Cast the qualifiers, but the season was way too long.

Well I was facepalming at NASL a lot, but the games at final really lifted all my doubts. Although cant forget those 20 minute intros and CONSTANT audio problems, since minute one up to the last minute of the event.

The problems with the NASL and the game quality of the NASL are two completely different things.
The problems with NASL was the long breaks and the crazy long intros and production issues...most of which got worked out, but you can't say that "player A and player B had a crappy game" and blame the NASL for it. :p
