hotkey issue

This may have been discussed at lenght already and if so you can remove this topic but..

The problem I'm having is when playing zerg. When I have a few hatcheries pumping roaches, I keep going 5SR5SR5SR5SR etc, standard macro. The problem is that I end up having to spend half the game fixing my rally points and deciding not to make roaches altogether because when I run out of larve, im pressing R on empty hatches a whole bunch of times and keep messing up my worker rally points.

It is horribly annoying, I guess I'll have to look into customizing my hotkeys or something if there is no other fix.

anyone else have this problem?

You could unbind the R for rallypoints, so that rallypoint no longer have a hotkey (excpept right click)? Because you dont really need that one, and it should fix ur problem. Havent checked in on the hotkey thingies yet, but it seems reasonable to be able to do that

very easy to use program to alter hotkeys, just make a copy of the latest "version" folder.
And on release when warden is active you should wait for an official word.



i dont think there is a better solution except using only 1 key for all hatcheries so that you are not out of larva that often, but its more of a workaround that you probably dont like at all.

I have the same problem of my rally points being reset all the time.

For me the problem comes from right clicking on my hatcheries too much which can reset their rally points. This comes from getting into macro mode and constantly trying to pump larvae into hatcheries which already have larvae producing. The cursor inevitably stays as the crosshair cursor for larvae but it would be nice if they fixed this by reverting back to the regular cursor after a failed attempt so I don't have to spam right click to get my standard cursor back.

I did not know about the R hotkey problem which may be the cause of my other mishaps D: Thanks for bringing it up.

I've never had a rally problem like that, I re-rally constantly though so maybe I screw it up without even noticing, because I will be right-clicking my hatcheries to my army so much. But what I do in SC2 a lot is kill my own units with siege tanks.

I don't know what it is, I think when you select a sieged tank and attack move in SC, it will either say "cant attack target" or it just does nothing (I cant remember atm) but with SC2 it just keeps the selection thing on your cursor if you attack move ground. So next I'll try to select a unit and I will attack move that unit with my own tanks.

There's a couple other scenarios when I have selection problems that I have to escape out of because clicking away does nothing. I can't think of them all but they piss me off so much because in SC I click away to lose a selection on something all the time.

i reset my hotkey rally all the time too, but worker point only a few times a game ( when i get a new expand mostly ) and during the mid game this gets annoying when im using up all the larve almost instantly and it constantly fucks that worker rally point cuz of the roach being 'R'. Means I can't do a nice mix of units/drones, and have to be SUPER carefull and watch my larves bottom of the screen, something im not used to at all from SC1. (just extremely troublesome, watched my money build up to like 2k a few times while dealing with this problem in games today lol).
Just talked to haypro and he has the exact same problem..


seems like the only fix is infact doing the shady hotkey editing stuff x.x

Yep, don't know why they didn't address this instead of that inane switching every single hotkey ever to accomodate W for warpgates.

Ret: I'll be honest, I have no idea how you can possibly mess up your rally points unless it's about hitting a hotkey to rally instead of making roaches or something...

go ahead, just change your hotkeys, it gets so easy, that's what I use:

4 = hatcheries
5 = select larvae
T = drones
R = roaches

if I need to rally them elsewhere I just right click or change the hatch' default rally point for workers or units

I also don't see why you would have to spam 5SR5SR... if I want to make, say, 3 roaches, all I have to do is 45RRR

im confused by what u are saying...you replaced the s button with 5?

i didnt even know having a hotkey for 'select larve' was possible (i don't mess with custom hotkeys) ..and im used to pressing 5 then S then R from SC1.. so what u described is exactly what im doing. hitting the hotkey to make roach 'r' after i press 's' to select my larve, when I don't have any larve at that moment because i've used them all up.

I think blizzard should just fix this, it shouldn't be nessecary to alter your hotkeys to play a proper game.

no, I replaced the "Select larvae" hotkey with 5! (or shortcut key if you will, it really is the same thing, except in the SC1 players' vocabulary)

ok, yeah, I see what is your issue here, you just have to move the "Rally" hotkey to some other key, like E or Y or whatever you want it to be...

Ret is right.
I was going to make a thread about this.
I always press 6srrr for example and if you press r more times than the number of larva you have it will open up the rally point set thing.
I always have press escape or press a different hot to not accidentally set the larva rally point to something I don't want.

Also fungal growth has a hot key conflict too.
If you press shift+f to cast multiple fungal growths it will just reset your camera or something.. maybe it does the multiple cast thing without shift+f now.. I don't know.

Before patch 9 I would always press V to try to build an overlord but then 2 minutes later I would find out was researching ventral sacs but I use the classic hotkey set up now,, which still has some conflicts.

It's true, this happens a fair bit...

Not as often as that annoying Ventral Sacs thing (hurray!) but still enough to warrant a fix. Shouldn't be too bad TBH. Just move it back to W...

It's not necessary to hit the "R" key multiple times (or any unit production key). You can just hold it down, that way when you exhaust your larvae it doesn't go to rally set.

Too bad a global "W" selecting warpgates are higher priority for zerg than hotkey issues.

Why are you selecting your hatch again after each roach spawn? (5sr5sr5sr) as apposed to just selecting the hatch, then all the larva, and then mass spawning them? (5srrrrrrrrrrr)

I actually like how this mechanic works for zerg. I hardly pay attention to the rally point of each hatch, and i usually rally the eggs after production (5srrrrr then rally just those units where i want them.) Although this is just a preference, i think its extremely useful to remember when spawning overlords.
