I've tried to search for such a topic, really. Forgive me if it was discussed some 100 years ago.
So has anyone wondered what the Starcraft buildings actually represent?
To me a robotics facility looks like a submarine, and an ultralisk cavern resembles a sleeping guy with his mouth wide open and yellow ribbons coming out of his nostrils.
What is the citadel of adun supposed to be? And can you really identify all the tiny details on the terran buildings as something of substance? Or were they slapped on for the texture?
Why does the defiler mound have a bunch of crystals on it, and why is the spire a mushroom? Evolution chamber is a complete mystery to me, looks like two logs ontop of each other, splashed with a bunch of colours.
On a different note, I absolutely love the sunken colony attack animation of its "tongue", and I am absolutely devastated to see it go in SC2.
So is anyone puzzled by some of the building sprites? Or anyone have a favourite looking building?

i remember a feminist article about how zergs were feminine because of their nydus canals and how protoss were masculine because of their pylons.
that was pure gold ^_^

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE.
This is what it's like, when doves cry.
PS, hi Hier!

its just the way they were designed why does it matter so much

We are just smiling about it.
You do like to smile dont you?

When I saw this i thought it was going to address the fact that you are looking from a birds eye view (so you see exactly a rectangle), but the buildings look as if you were view them at an angle, rather than straight up and down

i agree though, the zerg race embodies feminine concepts and the terrans are masculine
protoss are androgynous though, not masculine.

am i the only one that thinks an ultralisk cavern looks like a giant gaping vagina...
|
definitely not
it's just the protoss buildings that look dumb anyways
|
Haha I do this from time to time. The hatchery looks like a canine face almost, and I agree with the den as a glove too. I really don't know what they were doing with the terran buildings either cause its abstract imo.

Zerg Spire is obviously pretty masculine, and it helps that agression with mutas is usually the ticket.

Blizzard Employee #1: Hey, did you see this thread? They're talking about why we designed StarCraft buildings the way we did. Blizzard Employee #2: Oh shit. Have they figured it out yet? Blizzard Employee #1: No, but they're getting close. What do we do? Blizzard Employee #2: They're leaving us with no choice. Blizzard Employee #1: I'll take care of it.
