I still dont think im going to buy this game due to the always on line but im curious about the prices. The game is being priced way up around here (up like in the EA site 59€ and 79€) and that is just ridiculous for a pc game. Around here those are console prices only (yup I dont get it either lol) but since my gf will be in the uk this weekend, if the price is way lower (like 34£ as it was at some point on amazon), I might ask her to buy it there.
So are the prices on retail stores for physical copies lower around there? Or was it just luck when I looked that day on amazon uk?
Thanks. My guess (and it seems to be relatively standard in the game industry) is that the pricing is 59 (currency units) and 79 (currency units) for the "Limited Edition" and "Digital Deluxe". Because in the US, it's $59 and $79. They just swap $ and Euro like they are the same, and in the process all of Europe gets fucked. Kind of obnoxious, really. Other companies do the same, and while I don't mind (being in the US) I can imagine how much this should piss off people who are paying ~$75 for what the US is paying $59 for - despite whatever cost of living BS someone might come up with to explain it.
It really seems that is what happened with simcity but at least around here usually pc games never go beyond 50€. And only major releases are 50€ btw. The only 2 pc games I can think of that I've at those prices are actually D3 and sc5 =/...

god i hate this game, why can't i buy resources from neighbouring cities at all?

If only Aliens: Colonial Marines had been always online LOL Would anyone of noticed? Probably. There was a huge outrage at the game, it became one of the most talked about topics of late, particularly because of how awesome the features in the trailers were compared to what the product delivered, which was absolute shit

I figured i'd ask here since I have searched for the past 30 mins on google without finding any reasonable answer to my problem.
I'm stuck on low density in all the cities I try to make. Not low wealth, low density. For some reason I can develop my residentials to high wealth, but the density doesn't improve. My industries are shipping freights just fine, and the commercials are making tons of profit. I have parks, high density streets and avenue. I don't understand, they don't complain about anything it just won't upgrade.

so, i did some testing and i think sims can switch between transportation models. Sometimes...
I realy didnt figure out whats going on exactly, but most sims seem to walk out of their houses and target the nearest place that needs workers. All of them. Then this gets filled up and the rest seeks the next nearest place etc. so 99% of them get "baited" and just keep walking, since the next building is always just around the corner.
But i saw some people running to a remote location and then drive back via bus, so it seems they are at least theoretically capable of using masstransit multiple times.
Now the question is...are these workers just to for making us plan traffic, or is there harm donw if they dont find a job? The workplaces always have a base workpopulation assigned to them, so they wont run out of workers.

It's nice that EA's abhorrent business practices are resulting in shitty games. It makes it so much easier not to buy their filth. I guess the only downside is that you have to hear about your (once) favourite and beloved franchises are being dragged through the mud.

Haha. I was just about to link that. Ya I agree with everything he says. Always online is a crock of crap.

1. How do you join a public region? On the join game list every region seems to be full.
2. In sandbox mode, what's the easiest way to get skyscrapers?

Not sure if this was posted already, but I just saw this:
http://www.ea.com/news/a-simcity-update-and-something-for-your-trouble
A free game DL it sounds like...
The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can’t get a stable connection, you’re NOT having a good experience. So we’re not going to rest until we’ve fixed the remaining server issues.
And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.
I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We’re hoping you won’t stay mad and that we’ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.
What game to choose from now if the big question. =)

The rumors are true: as the internet has been speculating for weeks now, Maxis is in fact building Simcity 5, and it’s due out in 2013.
The game will be worlds different from the Simcity 4000. Maxis Senior VP Lucy Bradshaw wants to make one thing absolutely clear.
“We are adding curvy roads,” she says. “That’s really important.”
There are other changes coming as well. For the first time in the Simcity franchise, the world will no longer be confined to the borders of your own individual city.
“We’re building a simulation that really captures the world that we live in today,” says Bradshaw. “We’re talking about a Simcity where the resources are finite. Where you’re gong to be struggling with some of the same decisions that people are struggling with today.”
Online and social elements where if you put a lot of polluting power plants near your borders, your friends might start to get some smoke rolling into their suburbs. You might even start to contribute to global CO2 levels.
Maxis announced the game as part of the Game Developer’s Conference “Games For Change” track, and it’s planning for the new Simcity to be able to allow players to imagine the world around them in different ways. Speakers at the announcement included Davis Guggenheim, director of “An Inconvenient Truth,” Scott Harrison, President and Founder of Charity;Water and Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter.
For Guggenheim, the stories inherent in games and in documentaries helps people see social problems through new eyes.
“When you play SimCity, you cannot avoid the disconnect. You build a coal-powered plant,” says Guggenheim. “You will feel the consequences in a big way.”
But Simcity isn’t going to become some kind of deadly serious social malady simulator. It’s Maxis.
“You never know when a giant lizard might trundle around the corner and kick some buildings down.”
is it just me or does that sound cheap :[

Firstly, check your population density overlay to see whether the building is ready to upgrade or not. If yes, then check your space between streets or of your grid if you use one. Not enough space would prevent a building to upgrade toward the next density level.
Another thing is that the high wealth population/buildings generally tend to grow slower than medium and low wealth. So be careful about what type of park you place.
I think you can check on more detail in the general happiness panel for what you are lacking.

I'm trying to set up a casino/tourism town, but I'm really lost at this point.
My first 2 low-tier casinos are earning a decent amount ($15k+) but as soon as I pop a third high-tier casino it starts bleeding money. How do I attract more wealthy tourists? I have every form of transportation except an airport and I've built a few tourist attractions, not sure what else I can do at this point. Is the airport really essential?
Also I do not understand why the Eiffel Tower is so profitable compared to all other attractions. Its constantly at max capacity while the others are barely profitable. And when I look at the commercial map, almost EVERYONE (tourists/residents) does their shopping at Vu Tower. The blue bar is insanely high.
Currently I feel like every step I take is a step backwards. I was earning $10-15k monthly when my town was still small with just a couple of casinos, now with all the transportation, tourist attractions and better casinos I'm only getting $3k. This game man, can't figure it out.

ok nevermind my theory above.
The Sims will not switch between transports, the only time they switch is when their task changes, for example from "looking for work" to "going home".
Sims will exit not at the nearest station, but at a station they can walk from, which is half the map as a distance...
I THINk Sims wont use transportation that brings them closer to their target but not into walking distance.
Sims will use transportation that didnt reach their homes with its influence radius. But 90% of the Sims will spawn with a car if there is no transportation nearby that can bring them to their target.
Oh and i think once in walking distance, they wont use any stations.
If i dont get penalized for them not finding work, i can live with this.

For the first question, the high-wealth casino is really really really hard to make money unless you have a way to attract high-wealth tourists. For the way to attract high-wealth tourist, I think airport is kinda very essential. Also, you might need to make an area around the casino high wealth too, but this is a guess.
I'm not sure about Vu Tower, but I guess it is the first priority where the shoppers goal as from the in-game description, it says that the Vu Tower sell the most technological advance stuffs.
For the last point, every addition of the facilities would cost you a lot of money, especially a high wealth casino. So you might want to add the casinos add-on or attraction only when necessary.
|
its best to look at what tourists do before plopping a casino.
you have no control over them, they might just check out some stores and sights instead of going to your casino. So what i did is watch the thoursists and where there are consistently tons of them, i would build the casino.

Reflects my thoughts on always-online DRM... It creates hassle for legit players for a few more sells (and that's very arguable).
I remember a few years ago when the idea to fight piracy was to actually give legit consumers more stuff, like a good multiplayer, free DLCs etc.
The worst thing is that after such a move to reduce piracy, buyers get to pay more than your average pc game (60-80$ ?).
Sadly, EA will keep ruining franchises they own, sigh.

So how is this new screensaver game?
