i think the derail peaked at darkplasmaball doing a thesis on dark matter, and went downhill from there. a recent poll shows that 92% of students turned off teamliquid and begin listening to the lecturer in their class.

Glad to know my contribution to this thread has been about a thesis that I'm not even doing ^^

I wonder if any of my students ever check TL.
You should incorporate StarCraft 2 into your problems, or some of TL's statistics. That'll get 'em onto TL.
"If ZvP has a win/loss ratio of 28%, how imba is Protoss in the current meta?..."

I've incorporated video games before. When I was teaching distance = rate * time problems, I created an example where Luigi was driving and Mario was catching up ^^ I feel like those names are a bit more universally recognizable than the StarCraft races lol
I also say Good Luck and Have Fun every time I hand out a quiz or exam

Have them sign* "GG WP" before they turn them in. X-D
EDIT: would be weird to "sing" "GG WP" after a quiz....

You have to teach whilst studying for your PhD? That sucks.
I choose to I want to ^^
I think it's the norm as well, isn't it? At least for pHD. TAing in masters and pHD is also common as I recall.
Yeah I'd say the norm for PhD students who want to teach is either building up a resume by getting more classroom experience, or researching and writing and publishing your ass off. Or both
ok fair enough. I think all of my friends who are doing masters did TAing and I know people doing pHD that are also teaching so it fits lol. Also, sorry, math is cool and all but there are cooler subjects (even though I loved calculus XD).

Haha I know ^^ It really depends on the teacher/ professor They can make a boring subject great or a potentially great subject terrible.

Do you also have a wp button too?
Do they exist? O.O I'd consider buying one :D
I knew it. If you were a hardcore math prof, you would say without a doubt that math is the best subject. Exposed!
. Can hack it then change it to GG WP lol. Home depot apparently has one like it though but if you want to have fun, try this and post the results :D

Hahaha that's awesome! And math obviously has the best potential, but the class can suck with a bad professor
I dunno, I think chemistry can have the most potential. Biology can be a bit dry at times, physics also has its moments but chemistry is something else altogether

My mom's a chem teacher ^^ She was actually my chem teacher in high school. Twice.
