Introduction Given the growing demand by UTS students over the past months, I have taken the initiative to start StarSoc in order to bring all SC2 enthusiasts together. The society is new and we here at UTS wants to play a part in the expansion of eSports in Sydney and eventually around Australia.
Who We Want - As long as you love SC2, we want you. - Students from all universities across Sydney are welcome to join us. - Players of all levels. Whether you're at the bottom of Bronze or top of Masters, we want you to join us to learn, improve and have fun.
Current Status Currently I'm trying to get affiliated with the UTS Union to get the club officially rolling. All UTS students are welcome to send me a PM with any questions/concerns.
***We need at least 15 UTS students that are guaranteed to join the society before I can pass the information to the UTS Union to be considered for affiliation. So please spread the word guys. We currently have 7 members so I'm hoping we can rally ~10 more UTS Students. Cheers!

Awesome! I'm definitely interested in joining then.
This sounds fantastic, iGX!
If you are from UTS, please please PLEASE help iGX and the society out by joining and participating in their events etc. I know everyone is busier now that uni has started; whatever support you can give is appreciated!
P.S. iGX, here's the link for the USYD starsoc so you can update your post: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=149264

i have set up an email account for us: uts.starsoc@gmail.com
please email me with any questions regarding the executive committee and applications for the committee. thanks
awesome news! Count me in as a member that wants to sign up!
Spread the word people, get your friends involved and junk! Can't wait for the AGM!
Thanks for adding the link to my thread (UQ StarSoc). Any help in starting this society up would be greatly appreciated as Im still first year so I don't know how to create a society at UQ. Hopefully other Australian unis will follow suit the initiative taken by the UTS, UNSW and USYD to make the SC2 scene in Australia big as Im sure we have a lot of unrecognized talent waiting to be brought out.
You know I'm in
I'm in and I can probably grab another 4 people to join.
I'm also an advantage card member (its only $61 this year :p), but I'm an executive of another club, so I can't really put too much effort into being a exec here.

You can join us at the AGM
I'm currently looking to hold our first meeting within this coming fortnight so stay tuned for details.
*** Also membership is $5 because the union handbook said so (minimum is $5 and double for non-uts students...gay policy i know)

I've gotten away with charging $5 flat rate for members, maybe there's something we can do about that.
Just wondering if there's any more word on what's happening with this society? =D
new to uts can i get in on this? XD
yes you can :D We should have our AGM details up within the fortnight from what I've been told.
Count me in on this as well!
Loving the idea! Count me in!
I'm so down for this!! Also, I can help make banners etc. :D
guys, looks like we'll definitely have a couple of members to get the group going so I will start organising the AGM. Please post here your prefered day and time or alternatively email us at uts.starsoc@gmail.com
thanks!!
Monday would be fantastic for me since I have a 3 hour break, although any day but Friday/Saturday/Sunday is fine.
This sealed the deal for my thoughts about transferring to UTS.
Hey guys, I don't want to keep you guys in the dark so here's a little progress report.
- AGM organisation has officially started. In terms of location it looks like it will be Harry Heath room because that is where the ideal AGM's are held for most societies. I personally have never been down in there but I will have a look at the room this week and book it with the clubs manager once i sort out a date.
- New problem has arisen: I do not have any potential executive board nominations lol. At the conclusion of the AGM, there will be a formal vote for the 4 positions. Please note that 3/4 members of the board must be Advantage Program members. The 4th position I have reserved for TAScarecrow (who is a great contributor to SC2 SEA community). So please guys, if you want a leadership role, this could be your opportunity. It will also look good for your future career paths.
- Joining fee has been established at $5 for UTS members and $10 for non-UTS members. I'd make it free for everyone but the union handbook made me charge people. sigh.
- Events wise I'm thinking of hosting a weekly online tournament like our friends over at USYD and UNSW but if you guys here on TL has any other suggestions, feel free to pitch in.
- I myself do require a team of 3 or 4 people to organise a meeting as a group some time before the AGM to help me out with presenting at the AGM as well. I'm not the best presenter in the world but if you are confident with this task, please let me know! This will be like a group assignment except everyone in the group actually gives an overlord.
- Also UNSW + USYD members, you guys feel free to come join us at the event but unfortunately, you guys aren't allowed to vote (boooo).
- A project which also I'm keen on starting after a friend of mine, Breaker 1st Class, gave me the idea. The campaign is called "Save the World with SC2". Given all the recent disasters in QLD and Japan, we want to host a tournament to raise money for the victims of these disasters. This project is still in it's infant stages of planning but I would like UTS alongside UNSW and USYD to take initiative and help out those around us. The world will not end in 2012...it will be saved by SC2 players.
This is currently a gist of what I will discuss in detail at the AGM so expect the meeting to be about an hour to 75 minutes tops. I don't want to hold up too much of your time as I'm sure you guys may have class or StarCraft to play lol.
Time and date will be disclosed soon.
Thanks guys!

Any day but Wednesday is good for me
dang, the far right of the banner kept getting cut off by imageshack so i couldn't update the OP with it
but great work btw!! thank you!!
My bad...double posted....
This sounds awesome! Tuesday - Friday 'should' be ok for me (depending on what times of course). Finding advantage members might be a little difficult.. though from what I hear, the sticker they used for this year is easily photocopied and pasted onto the student card....
I'd love to participate in the weekly tourney! Need more practice so I can get into Masters!
What kind of presentation does the society need to get going?
I emailed a (like 50 versions of) banner to uts.starsoc@gmail.com :D I'm an AP member which is sick boii

lol i had to pay for my AP this year so i can run for executive committee hahaha.
the presentation would be similar to that of a group assignment presentation you have in your tutes. so we will give some information about the society, what we hope to achieve etc so simple run down of how the society works from here onwards. Please let me know if you're interested in joining this small group assignment because I wish to get the AGM off the ground soon and it is proving difficult doing it by myself.
All help would be appreciated. Cheers!
I wouldn't mind helping out with the presentation, I've got a little bit of time this week.
Maybe the USYD/UNSW people can give us notes? :D
I might also run for an Exec role... need some extra-circular on my resume.. might as well make it awesome!
i'd be happy to help with the organizing. but do i have to be an ap member to help? cause 59 dollars to help seems a tad steep.
(any day but monday for meeting plox)
Not sure if I'm going to be able to make any kind of AGM. At the moment I'm mostly doing uni at nights and working nearly full time.
If you want any feedback with the presentation, feel free to PM/email (or I think you even added me on msn when I sent you my email adress earlier in this thread) me.
If I have any suggestions, maybe have some kind of semi-regular thing that doesn't have to be competitive (I still suck... also anyone want to help me improve so I might actually do ok in any tournaments we run? ). I was playing a bunch of weekly FFAs on NA with some people from another forum for a while which was fun, and it matters a lot less how evenly matched skill is in those games.
But something to encourage people who aren't very competitive to be active in this club is probably useful (I'll still play in tournaments when I can, but I'll be a bit out of my depth, and there are probably some people who just don't want to play in them and lose).
I would love to help creating a presentation. Not sure how much I can do because I'm finding I got loads of assignments coming up. But let me know if you want to meet up and whatnot =)
Matt44 has asked I mention this soc and try and help you guys out - I'm doing a few casts tomorrow so I'll mention it in them! Twitter too
Any updates on the progress of the AGM?
*sigh* why wasnt this there when I was doing UNI QQ anyways, maybe u could get a few of Electronic Gamers Guild to head the club?
Any more updates to what's happening with this?
Was the guy playing sc2 when I walked into my Authentication and Systems Security lecture tonight one of you guys?

iGx is getting help from one of the members, but i think he doesn't want to be a committee member

So iGx doesn't want to be a committee member? Shouldn't we just get someone who does want to to get the ball rolling?
I talked to EGG about this last year, and their president basically said that a SC2 club would be a bit too different from what EGG normally does and that it would probably be best if it was a separate club.

Nah, I think he's running for committee. Its the EGG member helping us that doesn't want to be a committee member xD
Hey guys, sorry haven't been checking this thread (or TL overall in fact) cos of mid sem exams.
I will be running for executive board but the position i'm running for is currently undecided.
in all seriousness, there hasn't been many people stepping up for the executive board positions. just a reminder that UTS StarSoc cannot be acknowledged by the UTS union without at least 4 members on the committee... atm I think there's only 2 people running for the board.

Can I represent the drop out TAFE players? I'll make them proud, or at least a little less ashamed.
I guess I can slip in TAFE as one "University"
What about Alumni?
They can participate under the main University
how the hell did i find this lol
i'm a civil engineering student at uts, I'd be happy to fill in the committee slots to get the ball rolling here
i've been lurking tl for awhile but just haven't made an account...
Would you guys want to watch MLG Raleigh on one of the lecture rooms next weekend?
We might be able to get one if people are willing to rock up early enough
Hey there,
Sorry for bumping this old thread, made an account just to ask if anything's going on with this StarSoc. It's looking pretty dead, makes me so sad
I think I spoke to IGX at the latest barcraft on Saturday. He said he was interested in restarting it but that he was in his final year.
