Alright, here's a post with some plans for tomorrow!
The tournament we'll have started by 2:30 PM at the latest.
The first part of the tournament will probably consist of 5-6 person groups depending on how many participants we have. After everyone plays each other in their respective groups, the top two of each group will advance to bracket play. Bracket play is single elimination, bo3 games. Finals will be bo5. Losers of group stages can participate in an "Effort" Tournament like last time ^^ Tell all results to me / PM it to me and I will update results as quickly as I can. :D
Replays all should be saved. If possible, save it in a format such as "Group A, ZergJuly vs TerranGirl" or something like that and it'll really help when I try to make a highlight video Also it'll help people just find games too if they want to download reps afterwards.
Games are played on maps that players agree on (it can be any map, such as the iCCup maps and other Blizzard maps, as long as both players agree). If players can't agree on a map, thumbs down will proceed on the list of Blizzard maps until a map is picked
If there is any down time (we finish the tournament early or decide to shorten tournament to bo1 / bo3 brackets) then we can do some other fun things such as UMS: SC2BW race wars, Raynor Party, Partycraft, TronCraft, Nexus Word Wars, Star Battle, Desert Strike, etc ^^ We could all play Counterstrike too
Where: Eudemonia - Berkeley www.eudemonia.net 2154 University Ave Berkeley, CA 94704 (510)883-0814
When: Saturday, January 22, 2011 1:30 PM ~ 12:00 AM
Cost: You’ll need $16 for the LAN and about $10 for dinner.
Prizes: None atm, but tournament entry fee may be made $4 to build a small prize pool. Donations are accepted! I will personally donate $20 to make a bigger prize pool.
Our last LAN was huge and it's been a while since we had another one! Hope everyone had a good winter break, now you can come back to school StarCraft :D I tried to get a sponsor for a prize pool, unfortunately I didn't get any replies from the companies I contacted. Still, that doesn't mean we can't have a great time. Eudemonia has been a great place in the past and they seem to enjoy it when we're there, and I know there's been a couple GSL Finals meetups as well. Everyone's welcome and we'll have a lot of fun, and I'm hoping to start having these on a more regular basis (as in maybe one every 1-2 months). Hope everyone can make it!
The tournament will most likely be group stages once again with a single elimination bracket to finish it off. Also, I would like to get a little poll going here to see how people would like to do dinner. Last time dinner was a bit hectic as some people who didn't paid took some food and left very little for those who did pay. I think this time it might just be better to have a 1.5 hour break in the tournament so people can go out to restaurants and eat, and it's great if people go as a group as it's a nice time to relax, eat, talk, and get to know people. However, if you guys would rather have one big "party delivery" just let me know.
Poll: How should we have dinner?
1.5 hour break, people can go eat (17)
65%
Party size delivery, everyone pays (9)
35%
26 total votes
Your vote: How should we have dinner?
(Vote): 1.5 hour break, people can go eat (Vote): Party size delivery, everyone pays
Confirmed (19):
Conan aka Superiorwolf
Judy aka judytuna
Evan aka evanthebouncy! (or should I say, evanelbouncy?! XD)
Are you still here? Let's have one on this thursday ;D (we could probably get a solid group of people even with such short notice)!!! I was too busy / not motivated since not finding a sponsor to plan one for winter break
Yes, there are computers there so you don't have to byoc And btw, judy, would you like me to add your number to the op? And of course you can come what kind of question is that! :D
I live in Danville :O And I know Dubes also lives in Danville / San Ramon area. I'm sure we could somehow get you a ride. Anyways, the PC Cafe is literally like a block or two away from Bart, it's really convenient so that's always an option too!
On January 05 2011 08:46 Superiorwolf wrote: Updated op with more attendees . . . make sure everyone knows! Otherwise, I may just have to bring out the PM HAMMER!
Wyatt can you come btw? *wink wink*
...... not only have I not played sc in months, but due to my current no (gaming) comp situation I cant really practice at all. So hell yah ill come! btw great you remember my name Conan ^^ I feel so loved.
P.S. btw Judy If you or anyone at Eudi wants starcraft/APM spam lessons I would be more than willing to help you guys in return for some comp time >_>.....
Haha sweet! Ritt you better come too :D And ya just bring some money, about $30 should be safe you'll probably spend about $24-25. The PC center has their own keyboards and mouses and stuff but I recommend bringing your own if you care about how your mouse feels. I personally bring mouse + keyboard + mousepad, and I just use the headphones that are already there but some people find them gross so if you want you can bring your own Btw, do you still need a ride?
Don't worry about skill XD Most of it is very casual, I don't know quite as clearly for SC2 but I'm guessing a majority of the players are like platinum -> low diamond. For BW most people were D/D+ if that's a better reference for you ;p
And ahaha that's not a good excuse! Train for the tourney, I demand it!
Ok I put you in the op, and ya last time we had HDStarcraft / PainUser shoutcasting the games, we didn't use the projector that time but this time we probably will be able to use the projector
Oh yeah I forgot you guys commentated too I also did like 1 or 2 matches XD Dunno, I probably should PM them so they see it. It'd be cool if they did come ;p
Hey btw I forgot to post this but here's a short highlight video of BATLL IV, it's low quality because my comp is pretty crap but some of the plays were fun to watch Watch on 480p. The video for BATLL V will hopefully be a lot better when replays are more organized and stuff
Anyways, I asked to go and got shot down through a really bizarre argument.
Me: So I'd like to go to a LAN in berkeley.....
Mom: What's a LAN?
Me: Sort of a party (gets cut off)
Parents: SO YOU WANT TO GO TO A PARTY IN BERKELEY!!!!! RAGE
Me: Well, yes, if you call a LAN a party
Parents: Well you've never been to a party in san ramon
Me: well a few (sort of nerdy parties, I've been invited to the ones where people get drunk, but haven't gone because I'd be scared of what they'd think if they heard what it was like... and they probably wouldn’t even let me) Them: Well that doesn’t count blah blah blah Me: Well, it’s different Them: there could be alcohol Me: WTF, don’t really think so o.o Them: Well, it could be dangerous blahdidy blahdidy blah Me: It wouldn’t be that dangerous, you keep on asserting that I need to show responsibility to go to college, yet you won’t let me go to a LAN< when I’ll be in college in two years with the opportunity to go to wild parties. Them: well then maybe you shouldn’t go to college Me: It really wouldn’t be that bad or dangerous, I could get a ride. Them: WITH WHO RAWR Me: Well, I’d need to find out Them: RAWR Brother: IT”S THROUGH TEAMLIQUID Mom: TEAMLIQUID, those idiots Brother: haha Me: please stop interrupting the conversation Him: Screw you! Leaves Mom: So you want to go to some party in Berkeley with people we don’t know without adult supervision Me: there would be adults Them: goddamnit, parental supervision Me: SO I can’t go Them: well I guess not, get back to work Me: It isn’t worth it… (returns to work while writing this post)
We COULD have it just arranged for you to be picked up . . . On the other hand, I think your parents are getting the wrong image - this is not some Berkeley frat party or something, we are in a gaming STORE that sells mainly board games catering ages from 8 year olds to old men and women. It's a really kid-friendly place and it is not rare to see pre-teens (and plus, you're 16 or 17, you fit the demographic of this place perfectly heh). There's no alcohol, I think only maybe 1 or 2 people brought in drinks for themselves last time (any competitive gamer has no time to be drinking lol!). It would be like saying a "reading party" in Barnes and Nobles could have alcohol or it could be dangerous!
It seems like they weren't flat out against the idea, so they might still be convinced otherwise.
The staff are really nice and I'm sure if your parents REALLY insisted, they could contact them and ask them to "supervise you."
your mistake was calling it a party, show them the pictures of the last event. Anyways I might go this time, not sure yet, and thanks for putting me in on the wrong end of the highlight reel

It was. I've not convinced them it's more of a meetup. Still having difficulties though.
Aww I'm gonna be trying to organize them a bit more regularly though like every 2 months maybe so if you can't make this one you can make the next one :D
woah so close to where I am too. lol I got linked to here from another post and I'm seriously thinking of showing up for this...
wait so in the OP i'm not sure if i caught on but: $16 to just see the event and additional $4 to participate in the tourney? and another $10 maybe for dinner? (cuz it seems the dinner deal isn't entirely certain though the poll votes clearly show favoring the 1.5hr break where every1 can just go out and eat on their own. I haven't voted for it :p)

Definitely come, it's a lot of fun!
The $16 is to have a full-day pass to use the computers. I think I'm gonna scratch the $4 to participate in the tourney but recommend people to donate to a prize pool if we get more top players to show (PainUser for example). Berkeley's pretty cheap so you can get a good dinner for around $7-15 ^^
Froadac will you be able to come? :D :D And Secret_24, sometimes there is a SC LAN in Sunnyvale every now and then if you want to go there . . . but come to Berkeley's for now :D
Hope to see you there And ya, I might go to the next one since I've been following this season somewhat closely, though it is still very late right (2 AM or something?)
Did someone say League of Legends? Listen to my LoL podcast, 25 Minutes To Surrender. hahahah. So many people at Eudemonia play LoL (and some HoN, too).
But my true love is Nada's Body I mean Starcraft.
@Conan: it's up on the Eudemonia calendar -- http://eudemonia.net/calendar.php . Holler at me if you want me to change/add anything. And feel free to put my google voice number anywhere... I'm using it as a public number, cuz I can always block bad numbers/spam.
we can have a LoL in house while we wait for peeps to show up. TL has a huge LoL player base and im sure that some of these guys play... or maybe these guys are good at starcraft, its either one or the other. And Conan u going to the GSL/OSL party?
On January 21 2011 03:19 DayaL wrote: I'm really interested to come. Two questions:
1. Can I bring my own laptop? And do I need to pay the $16 to play? 2. When will the event finish? I am afraid I can't stay for the whole time.
It said in the beginning of the post 1:30PM-12:00AM and I'm certainly not going to stay there that long. I haven't heard anything other than this time so until something else is said otherwise i'll stick with that time.
Op updated! Can't wait to see you all there! And for reference, I use Razer too and bring my own mouse and keyboard so you should be fine. The tournament usually begins at around 2:15 and goes until 12:00 but it depends on how many people we get to show up and how long we take for dinner and stuff. It should be shorter though since the LAN center made about 10 new computers last time that we can use ^^
omg yosh is coming!!!!! can we have a community hate than forgiveness party? wow I'm super exited now. All we need is scan and we can have a asum abuser party.
alright well i still cant practice due to my lack of computer, but I will procrastinate studying for finals to come to you guys some epic shit. ok where is the cheese page on liquipedia...
Btw, I know there's lots of San Jose people, you should definitely carpool with CDRDude if you guys want to come as he's offered to give rides ^^ You guys can split gas costs and stuff too which would be nice
Cool, hope to see you there Tachkilius and DayaL Yosh should be there, I will remind him to come (he said he'd come ^^) Dinner break is usually at around 6:30 PM or so!

Tournament was fun and I am going to TRAIN HARD for the next one . . . in about six weeks!!! :D So DayaL and everyone else you better train hard too >:D (but PainUser/yosh/whoever probably'll just show up and kill us all anyway but oh well ^^) Maybe we should just keep the Eudemonia channel and 1v1/2v2/3v3/4v4/customs with each other ^^ Also I had a ton of fun watching the GSL Semifinals even though gatorade ruined EVERYTHING!
On January 24 2011 03:07 ghote wrote: ok i have to train by playing alot of LoL i the next six weeks to win at starcraft..... or maybe actualy play starcraft. ugg the choices are so hard.
At least LoL isn't a problem for me: I don't own it.
Ah screw me. I just noticed this... I live in San Mateo and I could have totally gone to this. Anyway I can get on a mailing list or something for the next one?
ahahaha yes I would love that!! ^^ Ya it'd be sick to see you go, there's a lot of other good players around here too! Probably 6 weeks as ghote said. I'll PM you for the next one to remind you but just keep checking TL Community and you should see it up soon ^^
