Hi all, Faceless Void has won out over Viper in the Compendium model rework vote. To be honest, it was an unexpected result of the final vote even for us. Faceless Void won the votes across all regions. We've been grappling with what to do internally for some time now and decided we need more information. So we are approaching the Dota community to gather feedback on what it is about Faceless Void’s model that people are reacting negatively to. It will help us have a good starting point as to how to approach this on our end so that we end up with something that most of the Dota community will be happy with. We are specifically looking for information about the parts of the design that you like, and the parts you dislike and why. -dhabih dev.dota2.com
So everyone's favorite hero, Faceless Void has been most voted for a model rework and now VOLVO needs our help as a community to gather feedback on what they should to do to change his appearance.
Let us all at LIQUID DOTA work together and help our good friend Gabe Newell come up with an idea to put some make up on our old faceless pal.

It just goes to show that Valve thought to themselves that the amount of compendium money that they received would give them a good excuse to work on Zeus or Viper except...how the fuck did Faceless Void win?
Valve kind of put themselves in a hole here because they're forced to change a hero in which it's bound to upset people that likes his current aesthetics and nobody in the world can give a real reason on how this hero out of every other hero won the vote.

When i think of the name i always thought of a hooded figure who's face kind of looked like a blackhole or was just empty underneath. I never really associated with a tentacle monster or a hammerhead shark, but chances are it won't look anything like that.

? It lost all regions. It would appear that its pretty widely regarded as an unfavorable model - no further explanation is really required.
I agree with the above poster - I don't see Faceless Void as a tentacled creature or spaghetti monster type but unfortunately it can't overlap too much with Abaddon either.

People see him as a cthulu inspired humanoid because of Warcraft lore and its Dota version, that was based on the faceless ones, cthulu inspired monsters. Which is also a reason why Valve probally won't go down that route.
Either way I don't expect them to do any significant rework on the model. They don't have much to work with considering the huge amount of cosmetics he has and how limiting they are.

I have a feeling most people just picked based on the hero they liked the most and wanted to see made more awesome, not who actually has a terrible model and needs reworking.

Yeah I can't believe he beat Viper. I hope Valve updates that hero's model soon anyway.
I guess I'd approach the question as a sort of "how can we take the current model and make it better" question. Honestly I think they could do a lot with just some retexturing, since that solid purple body is a bit plain. Maybe make him more sinewy, I think that has potential.
As for the head... If we're going the horror route, maybe give him a bigger and more alarming mouth. Or no mouth at all. Or make him look like one of those Exbelua things from Tales of Symphonia + Show Spoiler +

Well, if they listened to ME Lion would have been the one on the chopping block, but noooooooo, let's have democracy.
As for my 2 cents - he's plain, vanilla, boring. It's a purple silueth with a loincloth, he needs some details in there (then again, I voted Viper).
