What a waste of time. People in 'Normal' are so horrendous that you can easily get stuck there regardless of whether you are 'better' than them or not. The problem seems to me, that the majority of people there think that they are playing the game properly, and when things go wrong it is everyone elses fault.
I buy wards when i support, but honestly i dont know why i bother. 7/10 times the opponents mid walks past the warded rune spot towards a lane, the people in that lane continue with what they are doing. Also more than 5/10 mids don't even attempt to get rune control of any kind. Its a toss up whether mid will call miss, and more then 5/10 times the people still don't adjust to the possibility to a gank(and still blame mid when they die of course).
I don't think i've ever seen anyone(other than me) EVER double stack a camp before pulling it.Also its extremely rare to see anyone attempt to block neut camps with wards. 8/10 games jungler's have free reign to farm with impunity.
Hero compositions are terrible, 3 carries on your team and 8/10 times you are screwed regardless of what you then choose to pick. Then theres the laning. Everyone runs for the safe lane leaving absolutely terrible hard lanes(often even ending up with hard carries solo-ing hard lanes against dual ranged heroes etc)
I dream of getting into the high bracket, not because i am good at dota, or because i even deserve to be there, but because you seriously can't get better at this game in the current state of the 'normal' bracket. You have to play doing retarded shit because everyone else does retarded shit, then when you get a game or two in the high bracket you lose miserably because you are now supposed to play in a completely different way.
I played a couple of games in the high bracket with some TL'ers yesterday and god it was awesome. I played pretty noobishly, but it felt great because it felt like what i contributed was actually getting put to use by people who undertsand what is going on. Assuming they would have me back to play, i think i could actually get somewhere with the game.
You sir, understand it. I have no Idea how I went from very high to normal (after that patch that changed the names) but it happend. Now I read horror stories from all the brackets so I first have to say that I think there is little to no difference between the brackets. (yet) That being said. Normal is MMR hell. As soon as you're in there, you'll stay there unless you have a ridiculous ammount of luck on your side. Why? Becuase Fuck you, thats why. This guy above me summed up it perfectly. If you honestly believe you're above avarage or have become above avarage with practice, you'll have no chance in hell to get out of the normal queue. Its full of idiots and with all the given examples (which are all sadly very true) I dont have to give you one. But I do tell you this. You're trying to get out of this hell, you're doing great. You're playing mid invoker and owning the living crap out of mid. You gank, you are 10-0-3 at the 20 minute mark and being a general god. WOOPS riki with 15-0-1 on his way who has had a freefarm at the times you werent there to gank/assist/whatever. Rapes you, game over. You can say 'well, do something about this riki'. Then I say: you dont know how bad these players are. They rather suicide 10 times then buy anything that counters anyone. And by the time you have your shit together you will be PEEPED. Lose: scoreboard says it all you're on 15-2-8 after 30 minutes. the rest of your team shows more like 1-10-3. Cant. Win. Those. Games. GG NO RE! Edit: I realise I did give sort of an example... FEEL THE RAGE xd Everyone starts in normal. People who are better advance through it. I don't even see how this is possible to argue about. Sure. But people who play with 1-3 friends sure have a FAR easier time getting out of normal than solo-queuers. Ahahaha no, most of my friends are terrrrrrrible. Honestly, people in low MMR are so bad that it doesn't matter how crap your friends are as long as they listen somewhat to what you say. You could probably tell them exactly what to buy and win, even if they never use an ability and only use right-click. If you play alone and want to push, you better be able to push by yourself and escape if several opponents attack you. With a few friends who actually come to your position when you ping, you just raised your chances by a million.

Maybe from Normal -> High, having friends that simply listen is good.
But my friends will be forever stuck in borderline Normal/High while I solo queue'd my way to Very High.

I'm guessing he is much better then his friends. And yes, if I just wanted to win I'd rather play with the randoms I get in solo queue then some of my worse friends. You can't be everywhere on the map and if your baddie friends just lost a 2v1 lane because they are facing better opponents due to queueing with me, it doesn't really matter if you tell them when theyre being ganked.

That's sort of a different situation though. Obviously, playing with bad friends when you yourself is high ranked is problematic since your MMR is evened out, so your friend will be up against much better players than he's used to. I'm specifically talking about sitautions when your own MMR is really low though... getting a few friends and massing some matches should be far more effective to raise your MMR than trying to solocarry pubs.

edit: it looks like the topic has shifted. nvm.

I have been playing Tinker a lot in Normal MMR...lost 4 out of 10 games which is not bad considering the Retarded Teams you get in normal MMR that seem hell bent on feeding the enemy DK and don"t wanna fight near the sentry wards when a fed Riki is roaming around the map

I stay behind in the sentry ward but riki doesn't give a fuck since we're two lonely supports who can't do shit against bkb riki he just casually walks in and kill us

Pudge is a great hero to get out of normal bracket with. Lots of bad and predictable people there mean you can hook back invis and blink heroes, and if the enemy team starts going as 5, you can easily hook one and kill him somewhat safely. Worst case the 4 left go attack your team. Other times they either fall back or separate like idiots, with some running away and some fighting. Add the fact that Pudge is tanky thanks to flesh heap and the OMG! NUKE HIM FROM ORBIT HE IS AT 50% HP IGNORE THE FULL HP MoM SNIPER! mentality and you can win fights easily. Even with really bad people on your team you can win as long as they right click heroes or try to steal the kills.
Other than that I can recommend strong teamfight heroes (qop, tide, sk, lesh) that can compete with hard carries until very late game, or just push other lanes non stop with a strong pusher especially Nature's Profit (not a typo ). Most don't carry a TP and will rage if you do that.

...I always defend brazilians. I hate when people use that stereotype. but this game...
PL(me), Sven, Venomancer, 4th guy, AA
Sven, venom and the 4th guy are all brazilian friends. 4th guy goes "I THINK IMMA PICK SNIPER" me: "No, sniper is a terrible hero. please don't" guy: THATS WHY!
And he picks sniper to go solo mid, and I'm bot with AA.
Lanes are Undying+Bane vs me+AA, Nyx vs Sniper, Shadow Shaman+Ursa vs Sven+Venom
our top lane is doing a decent job, mid lane... idk wtf that sniper was doing, but definitely NOT farming. And undying + bane are raping us. Apparently decay+life drain is a pretty strong combo, and I can't farm shit.
So scores are quite even, but everything sniper does is complain about how me and AA are feeding(HEY I PICK SNIPURR). Gank phase comes, Nyx starts raping top lane. I can't do shit. Sniper only complains.
Then I am left with orb of venom, ring of aquilla, wand and boots past early game. Sniper has boots period.
Game proceeds to go with me trying to farm, sniper going LUL I IZ GANKUURRR and a notable lack of wards from Venom. Everytime someone died, it was apparently my fault because I didn't try to engage an Ursa heads on when they got enough AoE to clear my illusions.
Even then, I proceed to farm a good chunk and get a Diffusal. Sniper has a crystalis and HoD... yeah. We proceed to lose every team fight courtesy of Ursa. And it's always my fault some how, according to sniper. Thankfully we had Sven+Venom+AA doing a pretty good job - and if I had more farm, we'd be raping that team all game long.
Then sniper complains that I die when I have invisibility(nvm shackles+voodoo+ursa's basher+Fiend's Grip and the occasional dust). Complains that I do nothing when he is blink-raped by ursa in midlane(as if I could do shit), and complains about how shitty I am despite having zero survivability.
I was so ashamed, I didn't say a single sentence in portuguese. Oh yeah, and everytime someone from the other team dc'd, they'd rush for an attack and unpause every time saying "WE DUN NEED TO WAIT U".
End game, I apologized for my team's BM. Ursa said I was nice and the best player in the team. Go figure.
Oh yeah, and there were plenty I REPORT U on this game. I don't know what's this fetish of brazilians and reporting, but does that piss me off!
Hugh... I want to believe the stereotype is just a myth. I do want. But it is indeed hard.

This.
I got out of normal MMR just spamming pudge each match. I did it for fun, because pudge is the funnest hero to play (imo) and I knew I could wreck shit with him at low MMRs. I think I had a 35-1-12 game (carry pudge ftw), or something stupid like that, at one point.
Anyhow, stopped playing pudge a lot as soon as I started losing more often, and lo and behold, I check and I was in high MMR. I don't play pudge too often now, but as soon as I get my wife playing (got her to play LoL a bit last year to warm her up) I'm gonna get a new account, and it'll be my pudge account to play with her on
TLDR: pudge in low MMR is fun as hell

Queue for a game, instapick invoker because I feel like playing invoker
SLARDAR VIPER JUGGERNAUT MORPHLING, with slardar maxing bash first. This is in the "very high" bracket. WHAT THE FUCK?
Not sure what's worse, the fact that a lineup like that actually happened, or the fact that we somehow managed to win the game

WTF last week i was 51/48 in games, now im 53/61 thats 2/13.... And im always winning my lane being the best in gold and exp overall, even when I support (don't ask my how that is possible). I always play with morons who are to stupid to right klick/farm... And I always play with 7/10 russians. I start go grew a hate against all dota 2-playing fking russians. They are so annoying when they talk/write in a languare that I can't understand...
Its just the same as in lol the matchmaking is so luck dependent, I mean I am the best in my games, every game. But how am i supposed to carry my team when they defend for 30min to get into the lategame and then, when those noobs that i play with are getting caught just push end win because I can't win 3v5...
And last but not least: Why does my team never push with me when we win a teamfight and have both mana and health??? On the other side, why do my mates have to push in 3/5 situations or when they don't have mana, health or any escape machanism.
fk those guys.

I'm still really bad at this game so I don't have any right to complain about anybody else really but
stop autoattacking creeps in lane
Holy shit. Why do people think this is good? Do they not know what last hitting is? If I'm support, it means the carrys farm is going to be trashcan, we lose out on experience because the lane is pushed so hard to their tower and we are going to get ganked so easily (even in the easy lane ><). If I'm carry it fucks up my last hitting beyond belief which is beyond infuriating.
I can't wait till Valve do implement a LoL style tutorial to teach people the extreme basics.
|
Nobody does that in my games, but every single game where I go safelane I seem to have to tell whoever is in the jungle or I'm laning with to 1) not fucking block the creeps 2) not do single pulls. Like how do you not figure out that these things are bad by yourself, do they even play the damn game?

Maybe they just felt like playing slardar/viper/juggernaut/morphling? I've never understood this logic. You insta-picked trying to force your teammates into playing heroes they don't want to play. If you insta-pick, don't cry when your team doesn't pick like you want them to.

No longer without losses on windrunner =( Just because 3 guys think they need to play a hardcarry and all of them failed hard.. I even managed to bring down top rax on my own, but it wasn't enough..

went 32-0-6 with Lycan
Oh Lycan..How I love\hate you <3

Pretty sick of every single AP game having Invoker.

The past 5 games I'd played enigma, tide, dark seer, leshrac and venomancer, even though I greatly prefer playing semi carries/carries, because people had instapicked retarded shit like spirit breaker and kunkka, so I kind of had to.
I hardly ever pick something that's bad for the current lineup of the team, which is why I kind of have to pick early if I ever want to play heroes like invoker.

juggernaut provides a decent support for a harassing lane with healing ward(so it's helpful with viper), as well as comboes with the slow.
Morph/Slardar may actually work because slardar just stuns whoever gets close and morph harasses him to death, causing good lane control if enemies have low range.
Invoker is invoker.
It's entirely dependant on enemy team's lineup tho.
that's how u win :D
