On a separate note, one big problem we are having that is affecting games is that often we get one captain tryharding with top tier heroes while the other captain is bored of them and wants to draft something fun/unique, even if it may not be top tier. This results in very skewed games where draft plays a bigger role than the players. That's fine and all at top tier Dota but this is an inhouse where people can get a taste of CM but also enjoy themselves and learn more about the game.
My only idea right now to deal with this is to have an agreement between the captains prior to each game about whether they will be drafting a top-tier team or going with random themes/unique shit. This will hopefully avoid any disparities between the drafts. If both captains want different things then we'll call a vote of all the players.
If anyone has any other suggestions then I'm glad to hear it.
edit: By tryharding I am solely referring to the draft. Beyond the draft, I consider everything else fair play. Smokes, counter warding, roaming supports, etc are all simply good level play and should be encouraged.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Honestly what is the difference between mm and this if all you do is draft mag naix sd every game? Not to point people anywhere, but we already have a thriving community league for you if you're interested in that.
Now I'm not advocating people be like me and draft dumb things, but it's okay to draft outside of the tip top tier, especially when a lot of that stuff requires people to know how to play it correctly.
edit: btw, talkativetim I meant it when I said the game was fun. ty for indulging my ridiculousness

Had a really fun 3v3 once we ran out of people to do real games. Skill Magi too stronk, I didn't even get that many multicasts!

The thing about try hard drafting and fun drafting is you get random captains, so we need all 10 people to agree otherwise you run into issues.
Also Skeleton King OP 3v3

There is a very easy way to avoid this and it's to use -rd instead of -cm

if we want serious highlevel games, we wouldn't choose to play inhouse...

RD is a good idea, we shall try that tonight.

I don't see the point of doing "fun" drafts in cm. If you want to get exactly what you want, you should use ap.
From my definition of inhouse, at least from when I played FPS games, it's supposed to be a serious competitive match between two teams.

The way I see it, the best way to improve is to play seriously and do your best - not messing around.

And if you really want to improve you should play TMM / scrims, even inhouse leagues. TLIH is a casual inhouse.
|
The problem is that I would need a full team to play TMM/scrims. Not everyone has enough time to participate in a team or league.
And one way to improve is to practice the top-tier heroes instead of playing stuff like bloodseeker.
|
we can do both casual and serious games, all it takes is to agree before the draft - which shouldn't be hard. we're mostly reasonable people.

Well FB145 just shuffles and then starts immediately so when I get the captain seat from that I assume we're being serious.

Improving and playing at your best has nothing to do with the draft.
Some things that improve your play: - Focusing on making space for carry to farm - Being efficient with your time - Supports knowing when to pull, when to zone the enemy, when to rotate, when to countergank - Using smokes effectively - Warding and counterwarding - Being appropriately aggressive/defensive - Strategic play regarding forcing teamfights at the right time, or emphasising split push, based on team compositions
None of that stuff requires you to draft from the top-tier competitive pool of heroes over and over again to learn. In fact it's best for newbies to learn these things with multiple heroes, so they can apply what they learn to any hero they pick in the future.
Having one side draft Magnus/LD/Lifestealer and winning because of picks doesn't actually teach anyone anything except 'those are good heroes, pick them and do well'.

How does 2 melee supports make space for a melee carry to farm against an aggressive trilane/zone the enemy? How do supports without damage or disables zone/countergank successfully? How do poor teamfight heroes help split push/force teamfights at all?

I feel like 90% of the inhouse games ive played thr tryhard team loses to the fundraft team. Probably because firebolt stacks the teams

I actually rarely pick naix for myself because I know that I'll win almost every time with it.
