What would be nice is if guides could be worked on as a shared file kinda like a Google doc. Would probably make your life a lot easier for sweeping changes bc it wouldn't be just you making the change from "lane" to core.

It's a shame that valve doesn't put just a little more effort into the guide making since you're basically making their game easier to access for newer players.

Honestly, having the guide editor not be broken 50%+ of the time would already be a big help.

Except it's not built into the engine, it's a web interface.

The actual in-game engine component has no problems.

Oh I mean I'd guess/hope that they're planning to make changes to the guide system that mean they aren't making "make the current system not suck" a priority

decent chance of that being wishful thinking though

My assumption is that they'll be giving it more awareness via here:

If the hero builds did not bug out, have so many issues, or become such a nuisance to load (error-free), it would cut down the time of work by at least 1/3. Simply wanting to add a new tab means I have:

  • to load the cloud server,
  • the page of the build (and every page before it to get there - 6 builds per page; so 145 builds takes a bit of a while to get there)
  • the hero build
  • Save and reload the hero build server pages (bug: can only add one tab every time the build is loaded)
  • then reload the build again, to then save
  • Publish

I think they're overall very satisfied with the hero builds. As a whole, they work, but I would say the issues that have arisen (straight-up killing the system) have made everyone quit (especially since there's no real incentive to do it).

Right now, I would say doing the hero builds takes about 1 to 3 hours of my day every day (mornings). For major changes [like the previous guide changes made earlier this week], it takes about 6 to 7 hours and then whatever subsequent feedback I get (so another 2 hours every day for a few days).

and then as you know, new patches is a 12 to 30 hour (total) marathon.

Build testing not included because it's not surprise that I simply can't do it as efficiently as I would like.

A small note that it's easier and faster to find your build from the Steam Workshop page. If you're a guide creator, a "Click here to edit this build on Dota2.com" link appears in your own guides. This is much faster than paging through the DotA 2 Steam Cloud interface.

Ah yeah, I do that already, I totally forgot about it when explaining things. It's actually a way to get your old de-synced builds renewed.

BTW Torte are you using this: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dota-2-build-editor-fix/oojdobdhdmijopknbgkefkklhdeaegbl?hl=en&gl=GB

It lets you add Necro 2-3 and Dagon 2-5 to builds, along with fixing the stuck loading bug.

It's based off an old bug that I spoke to Valve about fixing (it was a sync issue, no longer happens). I can try it though it is not updated for 6.84 (no Boots of Travel - lvl 2 nor Glimmer Cape, etc.)

edit: oh, it does work!

Cool, I guess I will use it now and update all the guides

for lesh i honestly dont like aghs, and i think octarine is kinda overrated. euls shud rly be core as its just such a useful item. i would put ghost scepter-> eblade into situational

I personally like Aghanim's a lot, but there are a lot of other items that are prioritized. There's no real downside to Aghanim's, it just doesn't have a priority.

I was on the fence about putting Eul's as Core too.

Torte, we were using your guide for phantom lance and folks noticed you had two clarities in the starting items. The general consensus was that clarities are super bad on melee cores because to use them requires you to give up last hits or be scared. And when I say we, it was Ran and Blue along with a couple other 4-5K players.

And poor man’s shield is OP during laning. Many melee cores should consider it a must buy That was the other thing.

PMS upgrade is insanely good after Stout got nerfed in 6.84 (basically means PMS is 50 gold cheaper than before, but still as good as it was pre-Stout change). I sometimes even get it on Strength heroes, tbh.

I got it on clockwerk in a lane and I was practically immortal in lane. It let me get 6 so much faster because I could just regen through the support’s harassment. I am considering getting it on BB and just being impervious to all lane harassment.

It's less good on BB because the damage block applies before Bristleback passive, so the end result is less significant relative to armor items except vs lots of creeps.
