@skyR you said a roswill capstone 450 is good enough for the build. so this one

but will this one be okay?

its only $10 more and it has more watts.
also, according to reviews and testings atm, it is still in testing of haswell compatibility but likely compatible for haswell. so no need to worry about that part.

Corsair CX is shit. If you're really paranoid than get the 550w variant of the Capstone lol but I can guarantee you that a Capstone 450w is more than capable of a 4670 and GTX 660.

naw im not paranoid. i just saw it from posts from other builds online (this guy, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CfP2ZcPxcU) and i thought "hey its only $10 more for more power" lol
i guess it shows how naive i am :D

If you buy a Corsair CX600 over a Capstone 450, you basically fall into three categories: ignorant, fanboy, or paranoid.

CX600 is rated at a lower temperature, uses lower quality parts, is less efficient and has a shorter warranty. It only has 100w on the Capstone so really, you're not that much better off lol.

These types of pics don't look good for 290x, considering people have titans @1300-1350 on water and 1200 is doable without going far up on volts. Pretty much impossible to say anything about the cards though until people actually have their hands on them in terms of performance, OC potential, true comparisons etc.

One thing we can say for sure is that a majority of the reviews will be done on stock bios titan, which is so say power limited to 250w (same as 780) which is quite a crippling limitation, so clocks will be maybe 1000-1100 and not even at air-OC level*.e (titan throttles a lot due to gpu-boost if you clock it up - due to the way OC works on kepler, you can never actually set higher than 837mhz, you can just give it a "temporary" positive offset.. that's up 100% of the time gaming/benching)

*i don't own a gk110 card and not 100% sure on numbers. Mostly just what i've seen/picked up from browsing threads, probably a little off

^Titan is stock 837mhz, very low clock for kepler. 770, a few tiers down, routinely pushes 1300mhz on 1.212v

If 290x stock clock is 1000, i don't have much faith in it to clock to 1500 considering the other gcn cards, which is the kind of "oc" headroom people see on titan because it's actually clocked very low at stock.

I suspect the resolution might have an impact on the benchmarks. For Crysis 3 at the very least, NVIDIA's high end leave the HD7970/R9 280X in the dust at lower resolutions. The performance disparity decreases if you increase the resolution to 2560x1440.

The performance difference between the R9 280X and GTX780 (~30 vs. ~40 average FPS) look about right at that resolution and amount of AA so I suspect there's some truth in those benchmarks.

Things never looked good for the R9 290X...I don't think NVIDIA really has anything to worry about unless AMD sells the R9 290X for like $600. I don't imagine the R9 290X being significantly more powerful than the GTX780 (if at all when we take overclocking into account) and AMD's drivers are pretty damn bare compared to NVIDIA's. You might get nice FPS with R9 290X but you can't natively modify display timings or create non-native resolutions for supersampling - shit that meganerds on computer enthusiast forums care about.

Basically, if you're an enthusiast wanting the absolute best, you're still going to go NVIDIA because of the drivers.

Pretty dissapointing recently. I started really following stuff right after sandy bridge launch.. Bulldozer, ivy bridge then Haswell. yay

how wonderfully exciting

all three of them

With broadwell delayed for another quarter things will be pretty dull if Steamroller is terrible. We should know how Kaveri is any week now

The real interesting developement was Conroe/Kentsfield -> Yorkfield.

Conroe because it was a stupid improvement in performance for Intel (>50%, because of the change to the Core architecture), with their entry models laying waste to AMD's FX, and the addition of the first Quad's. Overclocking was pretty good too, for example AMD's FX-60 was rated for 2.9Ghz and you were lucky to get 3.2 out of it while an entry chip like the E6400 could easily get 3.8Ghz (2.13stock).

Yorkfield because of the insane overclockability brought upon because of the change to 45nm process and that the northbridge process dropped from 90nm to 65nm (allowing much figher FSB). Seriously 4+Ghz for a was insanely common on air, on a QUADCORE (while getting 3.4ghz on a conroe quad was an achievement (air)).

Flagship desktop Kaveri is gonna have 512GPU processors (same as 7750), compared to 384 of Richland. So you are going to have a 7750 DDR3 under the hood. I'm hoping the memory controller has improved. Getting stuck at 2133 much be such a drag for IGP users.

Kinda sad, feels like i missed so much and there's not so much more to come. The big focus on mobile instead of driving performance, optimization and scaling things up with it, it's hard to say if anyone will really miss having even a skylake CPU from sandy bridge. Only been around for a few years, but future of CPU's doesn't look too fun unless we're all rolling around in soldered 14nm 6-cores in 2015 and software gets a lot better

Asus VG248QE should be the best pick for motion performance.

Then Samsung 840 EVO looks like the cheapest option on komplett.se anyway (OEM drive-only version; get the normal retail package if you need the extra SATA cable and whatever else comes in that package), so that's easy to decide too.

Just wanted to add a thank-you for Incognoto, iTzSynpah, Myrmidon, and Cyro for responding to my GPU question. My new 650 Ti Boost came in the mail, I checked to ensure it was in fact working, and it's humming away quietly as I type. Oddly, my computer doesn't seem louder, but the 'tone' (previously provided only by my quiet Rosewill Green) has changed somewhat, not for the worse.

I managed to shove that sucker in right below my ridiculous HR-02 Macho, and it fit with only a moderate amount of brute physical force required to get everything situated right. Luckily the plastic fan attached to the macho is a few mm larger than the heatsink itself, so the wedged-in tight fit isn't a concern in terms of causing an electrical short. Good news all around.

I've decided to buy a new desktop, complete with monitor and everything, since my laptop just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm thinking of buying the following setup, most likely via Alternate (Germany):

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP
CPU: Intel i5-4670 K
GFX: Gigabyte GTX 760 Windforce 2GB
RAM: G-Skill/Kingston Hyper-X 2*4GB @ 1600 MHz
SSD: Samsung EVO 840, 250 GB
Hybrid: Toshiba MQ01ABD050, 500 GB
Case: Fractal Design R4 Black Pearl
Power Supply: Seasonic G-550 (87x)

My Questions are:

Any holes/problems with this build that i am not aware of right now?
Should i get an additional heatsink with this or am i fine?
Is boxed cooling on the CPU enough or should i get the non-boxed + additional cooling system? Which one?

And most importantly: What's a good monitor you can recommand at around 22''-24'' (1920*1080) to go with this setup, since i'm not sold on any specific one right now?

To help with the answers:

What is your budget?

Budget is practically open end, i just don't want to spend any more than i need to.

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?

Mostly Dota 2 and SC 2, maybe some other new but not too high-end ones like new Assasin's Creed IV. I'd like to play on at least midlish settings, with a good amount of breathing room to avoid performance drops in game.

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?

I usually have some streams, skype and music running in the background while gaming, which ideally should influence in-game performance. No demanding stuff like GFX or video-work.

Do you intend to overclock?

Yes

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?

no

Do you need an operating system?

I'm going for Windows 7, because i heared a lot of bad things about Windows 8.

What country will you be buying your parts in?

Germany

No major holes with it.

Kingston HyperX is typically 1.65v so less desirable than 1.5v kits which are often times similar in pricing.

GTX 760 may not be the best value in your case since you only play Starcraft II and DotA 2. A GTX 660 is about $90 less in the US (don't know Euro pricing) and isn't that much worse than a GTX 760. It's definitely capable of handling most games on medium to high settings.

Seasonic G 450w would also be fine.

The Intel heatsink is okay for stock but you'll need an aftermarket heatsink for overclocking. The Noctua NH-U14S is generally recommended. Phantek PH-TC14PE is prettier if that's your thing. Less expensive ones would be the Thermalright True Spirit 140 and Macho.

The ASUS VG248QE is good as mentioned above. If you're looking for color and viewing angles instead than an IPS monitor like the Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM.

So i decided to go for the rosewill capstone 550w, just for more future safety.

than i saw that the price of the rosewill capstone 650w is the same as the 550w (due to sales)

should I then go for the 650w? or is that to much power?

I used some psu calculators and such, (although the specs i put in wearnt 100% accurate, but got the mobo, cpu, and gpu correct) and recommneded was 414w, so i know 450w is enough (like you said :D), than 550w is probably perfect. but i found that the 650 is same price atm, but i was wondering if its just having to much power for my build when im not going to overclock or sli/crossfire.

Yeah go ahead and get the larger unit.
There will slightly less efficiency, but these are Gold units anyway so it's not exactly a concern.
With no power comes no responsibility?
