They're worthless to me for testing say a 1306 vs 1280mhz overclock, because they hit power limits as low as ~1000mhz and prevent my card from using the frequencies i am trying to test. Other cards automatically throttle, and in some rare cases the synthetic power draw is actually dangerous and causes physical damage. That's partially why modern gpu's (think r9 290, 600/700 series nvidia) have a tdp limit in place - and that's in part to allow them to raise frequencies when safe, not just across the board lower them

What is your budget? About $500 for each machine. What is your monitor's native resolution? 2 monitors on each at roughly 1080p (I believe one is a 5:4, though). What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? None. What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014 Typical work apps like Microsoft Office Do you intend to overclock? No. Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No. Do you need an operating system? Probably, but just exclude it from the budget right now. Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? No. If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. What country will you be buying your parts in? USA If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Probably just stick with Newegg and maybe Amazon.

sweet news for some games, reducing cpu overhead might help significantly for sc2, since Skyrim is dx9 and they're quoting 1.25x performance

B85 also can't do SLI if that's something of interest (since you selected a 620w power supply). If you're not doing SLI than the 520w variant is fine.

http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np7358-clevo-w350ss-p-6991.html?wconfigure=yes $1250 with the following added: 240GB Crucial M5 mSATA SSD - Preconfigured as an OS Drive ( Operating System – Drive C: ) ( + 175 ) FREE UPGRADE! - 1TB 5400RPM [SATA II - 3GB/s] (SKU - HDD098) ( + 0 ) ~Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (64&32-Bit CD Included (Supports up to 16GB of RAM)) + MS Office 2013 Trial ( + 95 ) That's a Core i7-4700MQ + GTX 860M (Maxwell) config with 15.6" 1080p display. And 240GB SSD added above. Yes, you can easily get better graphics than that with that kind of money, but that's GM107 at GTX 750 Ti speeds. Not that bad, and it uses way less power (less heat) than everything else comparable in performance.

Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? Simply put - better FPS and load times. Current PC is somewhat sluggish. I originally built this pc with the express purpose of playing Skyrim which my previous pc couldn't. Probably because it's a laptop... Anyway I'm finding my myself in a similar situation now. I can play most games just fine but if I try maxing out settings I find my FPS dropping below 30 resulting in choppy game-play. I even experience some choppiness when playing Sim games such as SimCity or Banished. I'm currently looking at upgrading to: -GPU: GTX 750 Ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487028 -PSU (only if necessary) -Hard-drive: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250KW SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147253 or SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193 I don't mind spending an extra $45 if there's a noticeable difference in load speeds. Regardless I don't need more than 256GB. Only using 105GB currently on my pc. What is your budget? Absolute max $600 including PSU if needed, otherwise $400. What country will you be buying your parts in? USA If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. Retailer: Newegg. I could use Amazon however I prefer Newegg for electronics purchases. Brands: I prefer larger/name brands. I'm just generally more at ease of mind with them.

You don't need a new psu (unless you care about efficiency, as that one is far, far overspecced for your power draw). The pro is not worth paying extra for, and the evo is a great ssd.

Maybe that's why :o the game just isn't demanding enough. how weird lawl. but that must be it. i've noticed gpu load is significantly lower with v-sync on. might be good limiting FPS to lower gpu usage, i guess? are there programs that exist that allow that? hmm

If your GPU is constantly rendering, you usually have significantly newer frames (less input lag) from that work, as opposed to like double buffered vsync where the frame is rendered long before you need it and then the card sits idle for a while before it is displayed and work starts on the next frame

hmm but i can't see the difference when it's at 120+ fps or when it's v-synced at 60 though Vsynced 60 adds a massive amount of input lag This is an example of the amount of input lag difference we see - on a 144hz monitor. On 60hz, it's significantly higher and also a bigger gap i think ![]() Here we have vsync off, 22ms average time between click and gunshot on screen. Gsync on with a bugged setting so latency rises like vsync, it goes to 40ms. With that fixed, it goes back to 24ms. If you look at the timing of individual shots, it's literally a doubling of latency on the fastest ones. So yea.. the kind of latency differences seen are pretty insane. For osu play, i'd consider 120fps vsync to be unplayable - and that's a fraction of the latency of 60hz vsync. I've seen people with far worse setups like this - like 100ms mouse to screen, that don't notice the difference between vsync on/off - that's mostly because their setup was broken in the first place, such as bad performance, bad windows settings, 125hz mouse, an 8 year old super slow response lcd, etc. Oh yea, another setting - max pre-rendered frames in nvidia driver or the AMD equivalent (should be at 1 almost always) as well as windows basic theme instead of aero (which is double buffer vsynced i believe)
