I'm nuts for airflow so getting a corsair air 540 (they have 1x 140mm rear, 2x 140mm top, 3x 120mm front - as well as being not really big around the fan slots/components so more directed airflow, without PSU, HDD's, wires etc blocking any)

Great case if you want one. Little focus on quietness though i hear (lol) and it's quite fat. In terms of actual performance it's probably irrelevant to most people - as long as you have a decent setup (1-2 intakes and exhausts, not completely blocked) then you'll do ok unless you're running say multiple 780's/290's, but something like 5-10c off load cpu+gpu temps between an "amazing" airflow setup and an "ok" one is worth to me - depends what kind of case you want.

That case looks so weird! It looks so... square. And it looks pretty fat. I can't imagine that being very easy to move, like if you're moving into a new place or something. I definitely value airflow though.

What about something that has great airflow, but a more standard format? I'd still be looking at medium cases, ideally. By the way, this might be a silly question, but does the number of fans matter? I'm assuming airflow is more important, right?

How would the air 540 fare with the setup I'm considering? I just read some reviews on it, and someone was talking about the wires being too short to plug everything properly (power button, etc) but it's most likely just lack of research from that person and the harmony in their pieces.

I'm also looking at Cooler Master. The CM Cosmos SE looks cool, but somehow intimidating.

Not really sure about other great airflow cases; the 540 stood out of the crowd for me in terms of performance so i didn't pay much attention to other stuff

if all of your fans are the same, 6 fans = better airflow than 4

500R has great airflow, A540 just has better airflow since there's no HDD cages obstructing the intake.

Another good option is the Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 which may be less expensive than the 500R.

You could try the NZXT Phantom series (410 is a medium tower I think). Looks great, 4 or more fans depending on your model, and helpful cable management system.

What do you guys think is the best computer case that is around $60-70? Planning to buy one today or tomorrow. I would like if you guys can link me possibilities on great computer cases that is around my price range. Pref Sites would be like Newegg, Amazon but others may work. Would rather order online instead of store.

Possiblities maybe
Carbide Series 200R

and

If you don't have an overlarge number of hdds in there, you can actually drop a cage out of the 500r. But yea, once you have many disks, your intake over there really starts to suck. Still, if you set it up ok, the side can provide a lot of intake.

Hi. Looking to build a new computer with a little bit of recycling.. A friend suggested a build, hoping someone could look it over and make suggestions.

What is your budget?
$850-$950

What is your monitor's native resolution?
1920x1200

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
Starcraft, Hearthstone (lol), Planetary Annihilation, random other Steam stuff. High settings? Doesn't need to be max but I'd like it to be pretty :D

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
School work, possibly streaming on lower settings.

Do you intend to overclock?
No.

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No.

Do you need an operating system?
Nope.

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
Nah.

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
Compatibility with parts I already have.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
US

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
Newegg I guess. Would prefer all from one.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($35.98 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($104.99)

If your not overclocking then go i5-4570, ASRock H81M-HDS and drop the CPU cooler or if you still want one go with something cheaper like the NZXT Repsire T20 (cheapest 120mm tower cooler) as heat is not an issue.

Also having a mATX motherboard with a Full Tower case with a window is going to look awfully awkward. If you want a nice case with a window I say the Corsair 350D window.

Oh and drop the red drive and get a blue. And maybe an SSD also.

Hello, I'm fairly clueless when it comes to computers, but after reading quite a bit on various sites I've come up with this setup. http://imgur.com/FWzCsOQ I'm aware that computers around this budget tend to have an SSD but adding one would be stretching my wallet and I think I can live without one. Criticism is much appreciated.

What is your budget?
Around 1000 euros

What is your monitor's native resolution?
1920x1080

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
Mainly dota 2, I'll probably buy new releases every once in a while.

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Not much else.

Do you intend to overclock?
No.

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No.

Do you need an operating system?
Yes, it's included in the setup I linked above.

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
No I don't.

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
Nope.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
Finland.

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.

I can throw a list if you want later, really drunk atm though

Trying to max graphics or prefer higher FPS?

spend all available budget, or prefer effective+cheaper?

Both Suolis and deoner, you would be well off with an i5 4670, an H81 motherboard and a medium-high end graphics card, say GTX 760 / R9 280 / 7950+. These cards are overkill for SC2 and Dota 2, but allows for high settings at 1080p on most games. If you want to go to ultra settings, then you could make the step up to a GTX 770 or an R9 280X.

These parts would be the build's "core" really.

Anyway, been playing some SC2. I'm pretty sure I have the game installed on the SSD but games load at what I would consider a pretty normal speed, not blazing fast.

I'm aware that the gpu is an overkill for dota2, however I went with the gtx 770 because I want to be able to play new games smoothly for a few years at least. Why i5 4670 over xeon 1230v3? The price difference seems quite negligible (30 euros at best if I order from some random website).

Edit: I see. I was under the impression that the performance is about equal between the two when hyper-threading is not in use.

The xeon 1230v3 is clocked 200mhz lower so will cost more while performing worse if you're not utilizing HT

if you are utilizing HT and dont want to overclock, it can be a good choice

Hei there!
Ok, I'm not building a PC, I just need a graphics card. Because my old one is broken I'm currently using my on-board (mainboard: ASUS F2A55-M) graphics
Because I'm no detail fetishist I'm able to play DotA2 and SC2, as it's ok for me, and "all" other games I play are much older But sometimes I see that there are quite a few FPS drops and if I have a twich-stream playing in the background I get a little bit of stutters ... could be other reasons, but I think its my non-existent graphics card, so my processor can't keep up.

So, what I'm searching for? On the one hand I would only search for something medium, because I have no high demands. On the other side, the only AAA game on the horizon I will probably pick up will be Witcher 3; would be nice to play this without much problems then, and it seems that it is quite demanding (for now).
Budget is so far irrelevant, but I don't need a atomic powered triple card for 5k bucks
There can only be one Geisterkarle

The motherboard doesn't indicate what the graphics you have. The graphics is integrated in the CPU die. (specifying the CPU or the integrated graphics model number would be sufficient)

Also, normally having Twitch open shouldn't cause stutters unless it's network-related or possibly you're already using all the cycles on your CPU, both of which mostly wouldn't be helped by getting a new graphics card.

Maybe you should just buy a graphics card when it is known what's needed for Witcher 3.

Does anyone know how well SC2 runs in Wine with a 750ti? I'm thinking about buying it soon, probably within the week along with a copy of Heart of the Swarm. I have a i7 4770k using integrated graphics at 1920x1080. I don't really mind playing on lower graphics settings. I played Wings of Liberty usually on low with a 5770 back in the day on Windows.

If you're playing on lowest settings (for native windows) then the integrated graphics of the 4770k are fine for 1080p. Under wine who knows what will happen though =P.

Thanks I'll probably just go for it. If I have to play on low that's fine anything more is just extra gravy for me. I won't have high expectations for a non-native game. I've read that Wings of Liberty runs well and this is just an expansion. It seems that Heart of the Swarm might be more of a hassle to install but I'll manage. At least I'll have a graphics card for when Tropico 5 comes out.
